Got the Quanum Remote the other day. Surprised at the size. It isn't much bigger than the remote that came with my chinese board. Seems to work like any other remote. The binding process is a bit different than others, but got it hooked up quickly. Only draw back is you have to use your own batteries instead of like the gt2 with included li-ion rechargeable. $20

Here's a pic for comparison of the three remotes(Quanum in the middle):

Dirk - what did you do to get it working properly? I was able to pair the first time around and it wasn't able to pair it the second time around. What are the settings on the actual controller for you? I also had an issue when I first paired it up and when I stopped using the throttle it was still spinning slowly. Any ideas?

Ch1 = BEC/UBEC
Ch2 = ESC

Attach Bind > Turn on remote transmitter > Turn on power to remote receiver > Pull bind and let pair > Press throttle.

Torque, check your batteries and power to receiver. I'm not sure what makes the difference, but it's also not very reliable on me.

You need to turn on transmitter first. Then with your esc plugged into any channel, plug in battery, turn on esc. Now you need to put in the bind plug. Pull the bind plug after it binds.
If the motor is still spinning, adjust throttle trim till it stops.
Different setup than all the other receivers I've used. Hope it stays bound without issues. Only had it a few days, so far so good.

aha, it's good to see it works properly and that it's smaller than the gt2b. I think you need 4 AAA batts to operate it ? Pro side it that you can use charged ones or , if in real need, can be bought anywhere.

What options does the Tx have ? And, most important, does it have failsafe ?

regards
Sebastien

that's a lot smaller- nice find.. i'm sure you could put a a small 1S lipo in there and a charging port instead of the AA batteries maybe?

I think you will not come out with a 1s lipo , the voltage of 3.6V will be too low, comparing to the original 4x aaa batts = 6V.

well i've found that on the controllers that i used to modify-they have 4 aa batteries which as you point out are 6v but on the circuit there is actually a small transformer which drops the voltage to 3.3v for the circuit board..I assume its because commercially available batteries are 1.5v..any way a 1S battery works perfectly..

No problems yet. I thought it lost bind once, but realized the batteries were just dead. Worked again as soon as I put in new batteries. I don't know if I had left it on as the push button thing isn't exactly easy to tell if its on or not. The batteries should have lasted way more time than they did. I now pop out the batteries just in case so there is no drain on them. That's as easy as turning it off. I've been driving cars with it and it has good range.

I'm using the same controller with my board and has been working great. Nearly same size as my emad controller so it's quite nice not having a "big" rc controller. It's only been 2 weeks but no issues and still on original batteries.

thanks for the update. The on/off switch seems like an electronic switch meaning it consumes current when it's off ... mmm .... not so happy with that.
How is the feeling of the throttle, is it stable ?

I used to drive with rc cars in the past and know that some controllers can have bad 'feeling' of the throttle control .

thx again
sebastien

The throttle trigger doesn't feel as good as some of my RC car controllers but I think it is fine. My EMAD board controller is a little harder to pull while this one is a little "soft". But really for the form factor it's all worth it.

My 2 Quanums work and bind perfectly.
I really enjoy them as they are also quite light.. I also like the shape LOL... I bet a dickhead driver has more than once decided against cutting me off from what he believed was a gun in my hand...

Mine too is working fine...Had to rebind it once (easy, worked first time) but no issues otherwise. It does seem to use more batteries vs my EMAD controller which uses a 9V and change every few months. But I think use is on par with normal RC controllers...this just get's more/longer use vs my 1/18 and 1/10 RC trucks.

yep goes through 4 AAA fairly fast.. wil get a 1s lipo and try setting one up inside with a voltmeter...that way i'll now when to recharge..
Right now I realize it's time to recharge when my board stutters and I faceplant... Maybe with the lipo and voltage meter we can skip that ritual...

I got this controller for an eboard build but can't seem to get it working. Is there a way to tell if the receiver is receiving commands properly? I believe I have everything wired correctly, but no motor movement.

I went through the pairing procedure above, and it worked (the light on the receiver turns solid red, and turns off if I turn the radio off). I'm using the Alien ESC and I believe its all hooked up properly. At the very least, its powering the receiver as expected. But I can't get the throttle to do anything. Does the receiver LED change color when it actually receives commands? On mine, its just staying solid red as I try throttle and steering. Wish I had a servo laying around to test it.

Just to confirm, channel 2 is throttle? I've tried both 1 and 2 and neither has worked.

I'm checking ESC setup next. Wondering if there is something setup wrong there.

As a followup, its definitely the transmitter/reciever. I pulled one of my old RC plane transmitters out of storage and everything works great. It seems the quanum transmitter and receiver are not pairing. I tried the pairing procedure again and it just sits there blinking.

I'd think if you have problems, you might have just received a bad remote/receiver. We don't need the thing to work longer than a few feet. 2.4ghz should work for a 1000ft. Even the cheap 2.4 controllers you get with toys work fine. Those likely cost less than $5.
I do think the binding on this is weird, but it works.

I just received one of these in the mail and getting ready for a test ride. Pairing was definitely a little goofy, but after a couple of tries my board surged and scared the crap out of me lol. I did notice that The dial above the grip doesn't seem to do anything to adjust the speed down. (isn't it supposed to?) My other controllers do and it makes it safe for my 5 year old son to ride. I'll be buying rechargables soon after reading through the posts.

Does anybody have an alternative selling point since the transmitter is sold out at hobbyking for weeks in a row ! https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__31671__HobbyKing_HK_GT2B_3CH_2_4GHz_Transmitter_and_Receiver_w_Rechargable_Li_ion_Battery.html

thanks!
