Interesting....http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/electric-bicycles/14011-bosch-tuning-dongles-arrived-today-50kph-cut-off-9.html

Supposedly installing this lets you take the 250's up to 26mph stock, maybe 30 with pedaling and a bigger front chainring.

On flat ground, with no headwind, 20mph requires about 500 watts. 25mph requires about 750-800 watts. 30mph requires >1000W. Add hills or headwind and those power requirements go up very quickly.

You can probably hit these higher speeds going downhill or pedaling extremely hard with a mod like this, but don't expect the motor to help you much past the 15mph speed without some serious work on your part.

Theoretically if there is a shunt on the controller, you could likely throw some solder on it to get more power though. That would help you get closer to hitting these speeds.

But that sucker is a bit pricey, would seem to be a better deal just to order up a powerful hub motor kit and use that instead.

Guess this dirve is good for at least 500W coninously. You can switch off the speed limiter by just removing/shielding the tacho/speedo magnet from the wheel ;)

Hacking the CAN bus of the drive should also be possible... sadly bosch does not offer USB->CAN sticks with full access. The relevant CAN adresses will be hard to find though...still I hope there will be someone who will try this.

For just hacking the speed limit, there are already Hacking Kits available on ebay.

I really like the controller architecture bosch uses, it's the future of eBike bus systems IMO. There is a lot of knowlage from decades of automotive developement already which can be recycled.

Any more links like the one posted above? this is really interesting stuff!
