Strong freewheeling crankset

Great thread...lots of good information here on a promising concept.
Can anybody measure their Cyclone or GNG crankset and tell me what the center-to-center distance is between the last two chainrings (the driver and the driven sprocket)? Do you find that the spacing is sufficient for a front derailleur or chain guide?

Thanks in advance...

I measured... took pictures... phone rebooted... "load failed."

I'm really tired, but off the top of my head, the spacing between the GNG chainrings is about 16mm. My digital caliper read out is broken, but that's what the numbers show on the ruler part. Not sure if that's wide enough for a chain guide, but I would assume so.

The Cyclone is much closer together since it's a triple chainring. The distance between the 32T and 44T is 4mm, and to the main driven sprocket is 6mm. It's tight, but it allows you to use a derailleur.

Well, it looks like Cyclone updated their site to include the new 148mm long spindle ISIS BBs. The price has gone up as well ($98 - $117).

The 140mm spindle length one that a few of us ordered a couple months back are no longer there. I wonder if the how the fitment will be in comparison on the GNG kits.

There also appears to be a pre-order incentive of a $50 refund for orders prior to May 25, 2013. Maybe I should get another one.

I e-mailed Paco for a quote with shipping and the best he can do is $117 + $117 S&H - $50 discount, which still comes out to $184.

Anyone manage to get a better price for the cyclone crank?

I ordered one as well to replace my Bikemotive in the event my omega style lock ring fails.

Got a couple questions re: nomenclature or number designation.
Looking at a freewheel... 14 tooth 1/2" x 3/32"; 30mm x 1.0" od.
What does the 1/2" x 3/32" designate? ... OAL width = 1/2? 3/32" = chain pitch?
How about the 30mm x 1.0 od? ... fits adapter w/30mm flange & 1.0" od?
What does "flip-flop" mean? ... when looking at Staton's #3355 freewheel... simply that you can thread from either side?

Thanks!
Tom

30mm x 1mm is the thread dia and pitch of a small freewheel. It will not fit freewheeling cranks.
Standard freewheel is 1.37" x 24tpi or 34.8mm x 1.06mm metric

1/2" x 3/32" is the chain pitch and width

Got my Cyclone kit today. Looks good but I'm not sure how long the Dicta freewheel is going to last, it feels gritty already! Looks very easy to swap out though. My 8 point BB tool doesn't fit over the axle though so I need another tool to fit it. I'm thinking a simple hook spanner will probably work but if anyone knows of a better tool I'd be pleased to hear about it. What have others done?

You need the tool with a hole in it that you use with a spanner.

Like this.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Park-Tools-Shimano-ISIS-compact-BB-cup-tool-BBT-32C-BBT-32-/370832496413?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item565756d71d&_uhb=1

Unfortunately that type of tool will not fit as the axle is too wide to fit down the centre of the tool. You need to use a spanner type tool. The only one I can find is this; http://pedros-europe.ch/bb-wrench-shimano-8-notch.html

No it's not, it's what I used on my cyclone ISIS setup.

That's the wrong tool, look at the one in the link I posted above. It has a big hole to fit all the way in.

The tool in your link won't fit the cup as it is an 8 notch cup. The equivalent Park tool (BBT-18) has an internal diameter of 22.5mm which will not fit over the 28mm axle.

Maybe your Cyclone BB cups are different. This is the latest 148mm BB.

Well there go, they have changed it. Should of said you had that one to start with. :D

I guess you need something like the 2 below, but I can't find ID's for them.

http://www.bikeparts.com/search_results.asp?ID=BPC116968
http://www.bikeparts.com/search_results.asp?ID=BPC148401

The Park Tool for the ISIS 8 notch specifically says not for 30mm spindles...
