I wonder if Luna would even consider buying the old stock bikes at this point if they were going to place another order. That would be kind of dumb to do considering they know everyone is going to want the X-Version with the better controller. That is why we must all do our duty and demand Luna get the X-Version.

I contacted them shortly after the X Model was announced (4 months ago) and when they only had a few bikes left in stock. Their response was:

Sorry we cannot comment on unreleased products that may or may not be part of in the upcoming lineup.

I replied:

I personally don’t see what you would have to loose by taking my pre-order for it, as it could fit in your next shipping container whether or not you will be offering the new model.

But no dice, and when they depleted their stock, they ordered another batch of the non-X Model bikes. Good luck with your demands - in my experience Luna does as Luna likes - everyone else can piss off.

Can someone with Sur-Ron contacts please ask them if there is anyway to calibrate the speedometer for different size sprockets/wheels? I emailed them but received no response. Pretty please?

Even if it is not currently possible, the more people that ask them about it, the more likely we will see a solution in the future.

No technical difference to 2018 MY European models , it’s only cosmetic on decal , chain and caliper, same power and tech spec , gps only works on mainland China apparently, we also have the blue and red chassis options

So the 2018 MY European models come with the new battery pack that Sur-Ron claims gives it 20% range increase (apparently from an improved BMS)? And DNM front and rear shock absorbers? And the new "Intersect TR suspension system"? And the new more comfortable seat?

The new brakes aren't just different calipers either, according to Sur-Ron:

The brake system is customized with four-piston brakes made of titanium alloy. The pump is painted under the paint and the quality is improved. All-metal brake pads are used. The braking force is better, and the thermal decay resistance is increased by 3 times! Ramp slopes without fear.

We were specifically asked not to talk about the X bike on the forum by the factory.

That seems a bit strange. Maybe it's not really ready for prime time yet.

Maybe because then nobody wants to buy the current model anymore and they can't get rid of the "old" stock as everyone wants an X version?

That is what I am thinking also. I think they don't want to screw over the current dealers who need to sell their current stock.

I wonder if Sur-Ron is even making the old bikes or are just going forward with the new X version now. Would make sense for them to scrap the old bike at this point and only build the new model bike.

There is no old bikes and new bikes like you guys talk about.
Sur-ron has options available and some dealers choose to not offer these options.

In Australia we choose to give customers all options. This includes choice of voltage 48v or 60v, fork choice of RST or DNM,rear shock choice of 350lb or 450lb rear spring, we also offer all available accessories like 58T factory sprocket kits and factory primary chain drive kits.

Then we offer customers upgrades for headsets, front wheels, brakes and suspension.

We also supply the sine wave controller as a optional part.

We have had a full range of spare parts for over 6 months and send parts and bikes worldwide.

We will continue to offer customers anything we can supply as we are enthusiastic about the bikes and the future of the manufacturer

I guess this means www.aebikes.com.au is well respected by Sur-ron if we are to be the first non-Chinese to receive the X version.

We are thankful for the relationship we have had over the last 12 months.

By using the term "old", I think they just meant the standard, non-X Model. Which of course was introduced before the X Model so I think calling it old is fair enough. :wink:

So I got my first flat (after almost 700 miles). It was my fault too - last time I filled my tire it was to ~12psi and that was like a month ago. Should have checked the pressure at least once a week. I am guessing it probably got down to ~8psi and tore the stem off when I goosed the throttle.

I plan to check my pressure more often, but also thinking it would be good to install a rim-lock. Not sure what size to get?

Also, will I need to counter weight it? Should I just install two at opposing sides so it is balanced and has twice the grip?

Hey 3DTOPO 2 rim locks is kinda overkill... I had 2 on my xr650r, I bought it race prepped for baja where that makes more sense for 2 rim locks. After changing the tire one time I removed the second one because it was a pain in the as to get tire on and off. Dont even get me started on the mousse that was in the front I highly doubt the bee makes anywhere near enough torque to need 2 rim locks. Maybe use weights instead? And you may not need to even do that unless you are riding a lot of high speed road stuff. I've had friends who balance their rims and they seem to like it but the only time I've noticed wobble was riding on the road with a dirtbike at around 50mph and it was the big ass 21" front wheel that had wobble.
other options could be tubeless if you want low tire pressure or if you can get one to fit the bridgestone extra HD tube is a thick mofo....

Thanks for the advice! I figured two would be overkill, but seemed like possibly the easiest way to balance them. But since they are a pain to install, and like you said probably doesn't even need balanced, I will try without balancing to start with.

Yup - seems to mesh. I just checked my FedEx tracking number and it was listed as 150 pounds (68.03 kg).

Edit: Keep in mind there is a small wooden pallet in the box too.

Yes thats what the factory quote for shipping: quite a bit of wood used in the base and lots of packing - plus the high density cardboard is not light, plus charger, tools, etc

Just wanted to comment on something else about the inverted / upside down forks I forgot to mention. When I had my DNM inverted fork (USD 8 model) I was riding over these huge wood chip piles and fell. When the bike was falling and almost on its side, I pushed off of one of the handlebars to stay standing and the leverage with the tire laying on its side twisted or bent the fork.

I was able to grab the fork and and untwist it but it was never as smooth again and I basically threw away $450 dollars. You really have to be careful with those inverted forks as without the cross brace as you can easily twist and bend them. I think the issue is that you can't make them heavy enough like a dirtbike fork for a downhill bike to be stable and strong enough.

Kind of pisses me off still thinking about that, but at least I put back on my Marzochi 888 fork and was so much happier with it.
