I am tired of picking up dog poop in front of the house. Signs I out up "Please pick up after your pet" does not help. I am thinking of getting a trail cam such as Amazon.com

Anyone have one? Does it give you an alert on the phone when it detects someone walking by with their dog?

Same problem here. Thinking of getting a free-range black panther (the four-legged kind). That'll teach 'em!

Are you using it just to alert you, or for evidence? Do you want it to be hidden or obvious?

I have a couple of these solar powered security cams. The one out front is set super sensitive, so I have a 5V supply connected to it too. The one out back gets triggered less frequently, so solar and the built in battery is good enough.
I don't use the alerts, but it is supported. What you may like is that it has a mic and speaker, so when you get alerted, you can press the mic icon and yell "hey man, pick up your dog sh*t !!!" and embarrass the f out of them too. Or, you can push a button on the app and the camera will make a loud alarm sound, but that may result in the owner crapping himself too.

I think it's also a visual deterrent since I have very few, almost no, issues now, and there are a LOT of dogwalkers on my block.

PS. I just tested the notification and it made a ding on my phone and displayed a link that brought up the camera footage.. I use the free registration which provides a limited amount of online storage, so I have a micro SD in the unit that captures tons of footage before it starts overwriting anything. I got them on an Amazon sale, 2 for $80.

PPS. Check out the review where the neighborhood kids stole the camera, but it was still working off battery. The owner showed the cops, with the kids talking into the camera laughing, so the cop and owner headed over. They denied it until the cop said he just watched them live on camera. LOL.

I want it to alert me and as evidence so I know who the perpetrators are. I want to mount it on the second floor of the house to get a wider view and so it won't be easily stolen. Just ordered the one you linked to. Sounds like it does everything I need and more. The mic/ speaker is brilliant!

Do you know any good stuff I can put out for the dog to eat so it gets uncontrollable diarrhea in the middle of the night?

Nah. The dogs are just being dogs. If there was way to make the owner to get the sh*ts, then that might be something to consider. Mine are both on the second floor. They are both next to windows that make it easy to yank out the SD card if I need to. If it's visible, and there's crime in your neighborhood, cops will ask you about footage though; happened once when a house 3 doors down was burglarized and another time when some crazy gang road rage thing happened a town over and ended up chasing/racing up our street. Amazon's return policy is helpful if you find it doesn't do what you want.

Link?

I ride some trails maintained by a state or municipal parks and recreation department. The way that they handle this is to put that same sign up. Along side of the sign is a dispenser of plastic bags for same. I see those bags filled and tied in a knot laying on the side of the trail. The only poop I see on the trails is from horses. I also see dog walkers carrying an empty one of those bags in the ready.

I've had the the camera for a few days but have not installed it yet. I am testing it indoors now. It seems the detection range is less than the 6 meters spec (with sensitivity set to high). When I bought it last week price was $49.99. Today it's $69.99. I wonder what Algorithm Amazon use on pricing to target customers?

Looks like there are 2 different models. I have the one with the round black camera face. Which one do you have? I wonder what the differences are, other than mine does not have the center screw that secures the camera to the mounting bracket (as shown in the 2 demo videos in the listing), just a twist lock that does not feel very secure.

Mine is the second one with the knob on top. Mine is too sensitive and triggers off cars coming up:down the street and when anyone walks down the sidewalk, about 25-30 feet away (street is further). Lots of video of me getting the mail or watering plants out back. Maybe test it pointing out the window and walking around where the dogs walk.

I'm happy with the Wyze panorama cam. The first version lasted several years, with only the last year outside under an overhanging roof. Colors turned weird, so I replaced it. I'm thinking the IR filter/switch might have gotten stuck.
The new one (3rd gen) is supposedly weatherproof. I'm connecting it with an extra long flat USB cable (flat so it can sneak out the garage door frame) from a garage outlet. It seems to do tracking ok, and so far I haven't encountered any freaked out neighbors. But I guess it could be a bit unnerving seeing the camera follow you along the side walk. No problem with dog poo, but cats, raccoons, opossums or skunks probably couldn't care less...
With the Wyze cams you can set the detection area; I haven't bothered for this one, and enjoy watching it follow cars. We have an old tablet set up as a permanent security cam display.

Would ultrasonic deterrents scare dogs enough to dissuade bowel movements?

...if so, easy task to connect a 12V power supply, or many for multiple units. The plan could backfire badly if these gizmos attract dogs.

I will install it temporarily outside to test it and see how it performs. If not to my satisfaction, back to Amazon it goes.
The spec says it has a 9,000 mAh battery. Can that really be true? Do you find the solar charger sufficient to keep it running 24/7?

Do you have the V3 Amazon.com or V4 Amazon.com
Is the speaker loud enough to be heard 30 ft away?

The one in the backyard could get away with just solar since it doesn't get triggered as often. The front camera is triggered several times per hour, so I power it with a USB charger using the flat cord someone mentioned, since it can squeeze through the sliding glass window, but still allow it to close.

I can't seem to get the SD card to work. I was able to format it, select / confirm, it then goes back to the cloud. Do you know how much free cloud is provided? I did not sign up for a subscription.

edit:
Do you know how it triggers? Does it use image recognition to pick out humans, animals, cars or other means?

The SD card on mine works at the same time as the cloud storage. The app has a “library button that brings up the video clips, where you can select cloud or SD card to review the video. There’s also an option under settings to select/review the SD card video. Not sure about how much free storage there is.

The V4 link is the standard wyze cam, no panning motor. So, yes, I have the Pan cam v3. I think I got it when it was on sale for $30. I have not tried the speaker.
The few times I noticed a dog + owner showing too much interest in a particular flower or plant, I just 'accidentally' popped out the front door and said (well, shouted) hi and waved. In general it's a nice neigborhood, so I don't want to shout at a neighbor through a speaker. I think I only had to pop out twice so far; I believe it's the same usual suspects, and I'd like to believe they got the subtle message.

There's also the V3 Pro Wyze Cam v3 Pro | 2.5K Smart Camera with Spotlight & Edge AI | Wyze

This video compares them but not your Pan V3

With the VicoHome on high sentivity mounted under the soffit of the first floor, it false triggers too often when wind rustles the leaves on bushes that obscures some parts of the sidewalk. I lowered the sensitivity to medium, it false triggers less often with the wind but still does it. It is not seeing the whole front sidewalk in its current location. Will move it to the second floor soffit which is further back and higher to get a better view.

Edit: Moved it to the second floor soffit. With medium sensitivity, did not trigger when I walked the sidewalk. Cars did not trigger either. Changed sensitivity to high same thing. It's useless in this location.

Overnight the VicoHome located @ 2nd floor soffit seems to have stopped working. There were no triggers at all. I went out this morning, walked around in it's field of view and couldn't trigger it. Will retrieve it shortly and see if there is a way to reset the unit.

E-HP, can you check if your unit triggers on live view? Mine does not seem to.

Should you want to pursue the cameras further stop by the IP Cams forum. Good info. In turn a good cam program like Blue Iris lets you paint out sections of trees and bushes so they don't trigger recording by the wind. You can decide recording triggers based on how big or how long an object is in front of that camera (bigger than a squirrel, smaller than a SUV - heh!). Easily export anything recorded by a cam. Probably beyond what you want to do but for anyone running cams a separate local app/program is a must. The cloud is lacking in so many ways.

Thanks! I'll check out the forum. Blue Iris sounds amazing. The VicoHome camera that I am currently testing offers similar features as Blue Iris but only with a paid subscription.
