Never too early to start thinking about the next build, right? I would probably eventually just transfer the existing motor, batter, controller, etc because they are working great

A friend of mine is getting rid of his lightly used trek 6500 for around $400 with some upgrades which sounds like a great price, however, I have a few questions for you first.

The front fork looks beefy (It's a Manitou Slate), however it is Cromoly, not steel which was a red flag right away. Has anyone heard anything about this fork? If it's not very safe then I'll decline the offer b/c I already have a mountain bike I'm keeping pedal only... don't need 2.

Also the frame is 17.5 in which sounds small for me (I'm 6 ft). I"m not really sure on measurements, however, from what I figured I would be more like an 18.5

Thanks in advance :)

Chrome-moly is a very good steel alloy. Should be good, but if it has suspension forks, they may be a different, aluminum alloy.

Edit, the trek 6500 I googled up just now has a rock shox aluminum alloy front fork. The frame is chomoly?

Magnet check the forks and be done with it. Chromoly is pretty much as strong as it gets for steels, at least it was back in 1995. Things may have moved on since then.

Thanks for clearing it up :)

I decided it would be best to pass b/c the frame is also too small which kinda ends it right there.

Also, the dropouts look much thicker than what I have now, however, they are Al as previously mentioned so yea... not going to risk it :)

All the other components are probably better than what I have, however, the fork also only has disc mounts so I would end up with 1 rear hydraulic brake only ...
