Coming in the mail today, $410 USD including shipping and tax. History up until now: I have given up on brushed motors, 2 of them failed after a total of 30 miles. Brushless from now on. I was running a Yalu 450W double-chain mid-drive that lasted 3500 miles until an internal gear broke (the motor's housing is sealed pretty well so I could not take it apart). The so-called replacements on the GNG site are brushed motors. If you see the word brushed, run away as fast as you can, they overheat way too easily. Stay away from anything that says MY1016 or MY1018.
I've seen the Yalu motor for sale but one rep said it's out of stock, the other kept trying to sell me a hub drive instead. Here is the link:

FYI the smaller pictures to the left of the main one in the center are two 250W MY1016 brushed motors. DO NOT buy those. The middle motor is the real deal but you'll need to wait for it to be in stock again (if ever).
That 450W mid-drive motor is not bad but the drive chain is noisy and can (and will) pop off the chainring. I'm currently running a geared front hub drive that does fine on most surfaces, but last weekend I used it to clear some brush offroad and the front tire was slipping all over the place. That is unacceptable when I have a 30 lb backpack with a hedger, water and other stuff on my back, too difficult to trim bushes offroad with a front hub drive. So here comes the Tongsheng mid-drive.
"They" say that mid-drives should not be installed on carbon frames. The Yalu motor was up to 1000W and it did fine. I have no idea why people think carbon is brittle. Maybe the super cheap stuff from 20 years ago. This frame is T800, and if it breaks, it breaks. I don't plan on doing 1500W often anyway. Will keep you posted on if it fits the chainstays (I think it will, the chainstays are only meant for a 2.6 XC tire or less, 142mm thru-axle similar to 135). Really hoping that this will work long-term.
