I've had this annoying clicking noise in my TSDZ2 for almost as long as I can remember. I was not able to isolate where it was coming from, whether from the motor, chain line or derailleur. The bike always rode fine though, currently at 4250 miles. I've tried adjusting the derailleur, checked tightness of the motor mounts and pedal bolts - none of which helped. At one point, I was thinking of taking the motor apart (glad I didn't).
2 days ago I noted that the clicks occur only on the left pedal at 9 and 3 o'clock position and only at moderate to higher power. The click at 9 o'clock is always louder than at 3. When it's clicking and I pull the brake lever slightly to engage the motor cut out, the clicks go away. Let go the brake lever, clicks come back.
I thought that the clicks may be due to the motor hitting the down tube. Visually I can see the motor butted up against the down tube. The way the motor is mounted on the bottom bracket is not totally rigid, there is some flex. Torque generated by the motor could make the motor bang against the down tube.
Today I loosened the motor mount hardware, drove a piece of tapered wood shim (made for window / door installs) between the motor and down tube, tightened it back up, went for an 8 mile ride and the click was gone!
If you're mid drive is making clicking noises, this may be something to try.
