Just had a chat with someone on DIY Electric Skateboard .com ... http://diyelectricskateboard.com/diy-electric-skateboard-kits-parts/vesc-the-best-electric-skateboard-esc/

And he said he never has hooked up a throttle to their controllers, He said he has no idea how to hook up a throttle to one , he has not even ridden a e-bike yet . ( boy that Kid has no Idea how much he is missing out on life ! )

So then ... How did you do it ? Hook up a throttle to a VESC ?

I have connected something similar to this:

http://a.co/cZa3iTc

Basically connect the black to GND, red to 3v3, and green to the ADC IN - use this diagram (from vedder's site) for reference:

http://vedder.se/wp-content/uploads/2015/08/VESC_ADC_Button.png

basically the throttle acts like a potentiometer

Then go to the control mode and set it to ADC, configure your parameters, and your good!

Thanks,

A couple of questions,

A) Did you buy the $ 60 On/Off Power Switch ? what would it do that making a On/Off switch yourself not do ?

B) Would a throttle be connected to that expensive On/Off Switch or the VESC board itself ?

1) I thought that the throttles that we use on scooters/e-bikes were 5 V ?
But you connected to 3.3 Volt , why ?

2) I only see a ADC-EXT input not a ADC Input, Does the EXT after the ADC stand for Exit, or something else ?
Confusing since when someone abbreviates , in this case the makers of the VESC , a word they use letters of that word. not sure why it says EXT ?

3) on the diagram you post here : http://vedder.se/wp-content/uploads/201 ... Button.png
it has the word ... Push Button , and shows two wires coming off it, But a video I am watching on you tube shows what looks like three wires coming off the On/Off Switch, which is lighted when turned to the On position.

How did you hook up your Push Button, or On/Off switch ?

Does your On/Off Switch have 2 wires or 3 ?

Looking for a youtube video/'s on how to set up those VESC's do you know of any ? ( video's specifically for using VESC with e-bike motors and/or RC motors that will be used for e-bike's ) One that includes setting up a throttle would be very helpful as well.

Somewher on here there is a thread from a few years back with several methods of connecting ebike throttles to ESCs by using madified servo tester modules.(very simple jumper wire mod i recall)
Quite simple but may vary depending on the throttle and the ESC.
Search using "servo tester throttle " or similar.
Maybe this is it...

Slapshot136,

Did you hook your throttle to the VESC ? or to the EXtra $ 60 On/Off switch ?

To hook your throttle to a ESC you can use a Cycle Analyst V3. This has the added benefit of giving you a cycle analyst which is essential for ebiking.

Are you saying that the VESC , has a 6 pin plug that the C.A. V3 can directly plug into ?

What about the C.A. V2.3 ?

Picture ?

Rather than the 6pin plug, you'd use the CA wired up with the separate plugs for that, and an external shunt. The CA manual and/or Teklektik's Unofficial User's Guide, available from the Grin Tech site (or various threads around ES) show how this is done, and how to setup that kind of throttle in the CA settings.

AFAIK you'd have to use the v3, but the Grin Tech pages should show which versions do what.

As for hooking throttle to VESC, you might check Kepler's latest friction drive thread, as there are posts there referring to using a throttle with the VESC. Don't know if it has the info you need or if you'd have to ask the posters there.
