Any one know you I can put a picture link vs putting a hyperlink?

Hover your cursor over the youtube button in the editor where you write your post and it tells you which part of the URL of your youtube video is needed to be put between the youtube tags..in this case its "hmFyN0vGlBw"

DAMN! nice block there howz the room you got must LOVE living in such an area i know i would...nice video to congrats on the bike

:)

Well, my first stab at a bike has well and truly proved the concept...

36v 10ah LiFePO4,
My (t)rusty old Ridgeback Velocity Hybrid
Bafang 36v 28" front hub motor
eCrazyman 36v controller

Until I blew the controller up that is...

So I've got another battery, a new infineon variable voltage controller and a new throttle on the way.

I figured it'd probably be a good idea to have the bike serviced and upgrade the brakes before upping the speed, so it's been off to the shop - here it is now...

looks fast just siting there :) my izip ver 2 the sport model lol.

Love it. Looks super aggressive. Nice work.

When i planned my first build I thought I would be cruising around at 15mph leaning back and enjoying the sun.
Turns out I am an electro-maniac. Full face helmet, riding jacket, gloves, tucked in, going over 35mph most of the time.
My next bike will look more like yours. I want full long throw suspension and downhill mountainbike strength.

Cool build. Tell us about those lights.
I have been looking at car HID kits. 35W gets one a lot of illumination.

Mmmm.... about 3K lumen.

35W/12V ~= 3A (normal sane person)
35W/100V ~= 350mA (insane lipo-maniac)

350mA is just a trickle when my launch current is upward of 180 amps.
Debating on whether to run the light off of a large 4S lipo or to use a DC-DC with the main pack.

Now I am just looking for a nice lens. I want something very small. I am thinking there must be some sort of small motorcycle lens that would be easy to fab a mount for. . .

You may want to head over to CandlePowerForums for some good lens tips. They've got a boatload of bike light builds you may find helpful, though the really neat homemade ones use LED emitters, not HID. But, you can easily get the same results... 4x Cree MC-Es... easily 3k lumens after optics losses. indeed!

Though, this is a poor thread for such a discussion.

DealExtreme have a rather large section of DIY lighting parts you might find a suitable lens there...i was going to buy a pair of 9 LED bike lights from the bike light section until a scooter "fell" into my possession i shall now use the lights from that...DealExtreme offers free postage to FYI have bought many items from them they are extremely fast at organizing orders from my experience.

Hey, thanks guys.
Sorry for the tangential but good info is good info!

I will check it out and post a thread once I get my lighting set up.
Currently I am using 55W fog lights from Walmart =)

Awesome ride! Terrible photo... can you get better photos? :D

EDIT: Nevermind... found your photo page. That thing is badass! Nice work!

Thanks, I've worked really hard on it and spent close to a grand. I ride it 9 miles to college and back 6 days a week. It can go about 20 miles on a single charge but I don't like to cycle the batteries that deep so I charge it at school. I have 2 sc-600a Schumacher chargers on the way which I'm going to permanently wire to the batteries, mount on the bike and parallel the cord so all I have to do is plug it in. I also have two orange kenda kontact tires coming. I built this bike(the first time) in spring. This fall I'm in a alternative energy class and we have to do a end of the year project, lucky me. I'm going to do a presentation on EV's and the let the other students ride my bike. I had to re-weld every thing stiffer because of that but after this class I'm going to rebuild and swiss cheese the frame to save weight. I'm also going to use some bondo sparingly, paint it and enter it in some lowrider shows. That might sound strange but at those shows they have lowrider bikes too. In So-Cal that's the closest thing to a true bike show and I'm trying to do this as nice as possible to gain interest in EVs and hopefully find a financial backer to build a lot of bikes but not so crazy as this one.

Orale' vato! Hey I like chore lowrider bike essay!
I especially like the long yellow bannana seat so chu can let the pretty ruccas ride on the back.
(hehe... sorry I grew up with a lot of lowrider friends in San Jose and East L.A. and still remember how they talked)

I really dig your bike tho! .... that's badass! 8)
Cool pics on your site showing it's transformation too.

I should have taken a before pic, but here is how it looks in the Wally World ad. I bought it secondhand in a craigslist posting.

And here is the after:

I've changed the seat, handlebars, tires, mirror, double-kickstand, and added a rear seat post rack.

Kinda the before picture...sans front wheel...

Still rought, still need to tie down the wires some, but here's my rig, ready for a long Minnesota winter's sleep.
Torker Metro, 7-spd internal hub shimano shifter (local buy), WE BL-36 hub (local buy) , Crystalyte C7220PF pedal first controller (ebikes.ca), Ping 48V 16ah V2 (ebay).
~23-24mph flats, no pedaling
How do you like the pretty basket?

I thought i would post a few pics of my 'first' functioning e-bike (trike) Now its running...well has run... so without further ado-->

Before_after_pics.jpg

Two 'donor' bikes found on side of road during council collection were chopped and welded to make the trikes frame.. Trike is powered by a 1000watt brushed motor from TNC Scooters 4X 20volt 20ah SLAs provide the 48volt power... Trike road well, top speed was 59.5km/hr The frame has now been 'retired in favor of a lower longer design...shall post finished pics when complete...thanks for looking :)

Nice work on the frame! It looks like it was always intended for use on that trike.
Yeah ... paint it up and it would look really good.

That thing is flipp'n bad ass!
Now I need to build one. . .

So. . . er. . . is "council collection" the same as "community service" i.e. cleaning up the roads in lieu of jail or fines? If so, double nice find!

HAHA ... council collection happens a couple of times a year here (in each suburb) ...you get to stack all your junk on the side of the road (out front of your house) and the council has a truck that comes around and picks it up...These collections happen year round and you can get a list from your local post office which tellz you which suburb is being done and when...then you jump in your car and go scavenge...it is actually illegal to pick up the stuff but EVERYONE does it...you always see utes and cars with trailers driving around the suburbs collecting....Every second house has an old bike out the front so finding parts is a snap LoL...

The trike i have built will be out the front of my place next collection as i have started (pretty well finished) another already :)

Cheers

Yes, it's like Christmas in October at my place :)

I've been known to throw my infamous "Mark's occasionally annual Hard Rubbish Collection BBQ" where my mates from work (engineers...) bring their families over for a "BBQ" and then we all run off and scrounge stuff. Bikes, PC bits, weed trimmer, push mower, wood, old Hifi gear, CRT monitors (yes they still work and some are REALLY GOOD), you name it I've scrounged it.

For some reason my pile gets much bigger after everyone else puts their rubbish out....well not everything I bring back works/fixable/missus let me keep.

And e-bike and a bike trailer are the ultimate scrounging accessories - the guys in vans and utes can't see everything from the road.
