Hello,

I realize ebikes aren't very light, so does that mean everyone just works on them on the ground? I've seen several bicycle repair or work stations that keep the bike elevated off the ground, do some folk do something similar concerning ebikes? Maybe you remove the battery pack before putting her up or something?

I put my 55-57LB bike up on this when I want it off the ground. It is stable and works well. Although the ground and upside down are often used just the same.

I tie one end up to an overhead beam that I used to use to pull engines in my hot rod days and the other wheel I clamp in an old Black & Decker Work Mate.

Most of my bikes are built with a crash in the mountain trails in mind.
I don't care flipping them over or hanging them for servicing.

A few wall mount bike hanger brackets are cheap and very useful in the garage.

I open a separate tab (to keep my place in the thread I want to post in), and I go to Google.

type in:

site:endless-sphere.com thing I want to find

Plus, a while back, there was a glitch in the web-hoster for ES, and after it was fixed, many of the pics and text were corrupted. Ever since then, I have been using "copy/paste" [CTRL-C/CTRL-V] to add text and links to a document called ES index, which I keep on my laptops desktop for quick access.

Here is an example of the corrupted text:

26”wheel (could have easily been 24” or 20”) BB is part of the suspension arm

I do the same thing, I just use poor keywords. Just beneath the typical forum search there is, also, a 'Using Google search?' check box, a little convenient as well.

I've had this problem in most of my life. Many of the terms we use don't make immediate sense to me, terminology is important, but really far less important in my mind than technical understanding of all kinds of details. So I often fail at remembering the fancy words we use but remember or maybe even improve upon the techniques and technicalities involved.

Communication is a funny thing, I am happy to say I make few assumptions regardless of my linguistic shortcoming. I feel assuming things are bad in general. They have a saying, when you assume you make an ASS out of U and ME. I love that one.

AWEsome one minute video!!...thanks for posting it.

I think I know a little bit about how magnetism acts, but I still don't know why it does what it does. Gravity seems to affect everything, but stainless and aluminum are not attracted to magnets like iron/steel...

Bikes aren't very heavy, so you could make a fold-up stand similar to this engine stand out of 2 X 4 wood and gate hinges (no wheels). One leg is fixed, and the post plus two of the legs (all three) fold towards the fixed leg. Could easily be stored in a closet.

Before I had to move all my stuff indoors because the city didn't like my outdoor decorating skillzorz, I used to use a big wooden worktable for my bikes. I'd roll it up a wood ramp onto the table so i could work on it without being on the ground. I'm sure there's pics of this on my old http://electricle.blogspot.com project blog from before I started on ES.

But now, since there's not enough room in any part of the house for the table *and* the ramp *and* the length of teh bike to roll up the ramp, all at the same time, I can't do that, so I just work on them on the ground.

I have planned for a long time to build a hydraulic-bottle-jack-powered lift-table stand, like a motorcycle lift, but didnt' ahve the materials to do it, and now I don't have the time.

Still rolling the bikes over and working on them upside down, scuffing up the grips and bars.

On the longtail, the double kickstand helps a lot, you can tilt the motor wheel off the ground for a quick function test of a throttle, or controller.

I keep meaning to fabricate a clamp attachment to put on my engine hoist, making it into a heavyweight bike repair stand.

HarborFreight. About eight bucks. easily allows me (an old guy) to lift the rear of my trike off the ground for motor testing and other stuff.

Good old fashion way. It"s much easier to deal with axels if your bike is traditionally upside down on the ground. Feel the gravity"s force :) Of course those things look pretty neat.

i used to use the same stand biohazard used. Cheap and good quality too, rare to find that kind of deal these days. Now I generally just used a chair creeper and keep the bike on the floor. Every now and again I flip it upside down if I'm working on a really low part of it.

I'm pleased to see that I'm not the only one that uses the 'wrong' room for working on the bike

Yes, Sometimes one room sometimes another sometimes several rooms at once. I do try to keep my addictions separate and under control but with no adult supervision it sometimes gets difficult. Hard to contain a project once it gets started and when more than one is started well.

Wow Biohazard, I wish I could do that in my apartment, haha. My wife has me trained well though, if I don't pick up my ebike parts after a couple days, she'll put them away for me which means I can never find anything. If I want any hope of knowing where all of my connectors/wires/controllers/tools/etc etc etc are, I have to clean up before she does ;)

Well brother is with me now so I can only get by with it like this for a day or two before he starts cleaning it up and I start loosing stuff to this box or that. Good to have some sort of a cap on my addiction else I fear things would get out of hand like they want to be. Still the ebikes are both parked in the front room and his Harley is in the garage so things are as they should be. If I ever find another woman who cares things will probly change as the house is the woman's domain so far as I remember. You are lucky she keeps you under control. ;^)

Made from recycled parts. Should I file for a patent?
