Winter Riding "Often or Not" Is it safe?

I got a set of suomi w240 tires towards the end of the season last year and put only maybe 200 miles on them. The tires work great, make it possible to go out. I still wouldn't go with substantial snow on the ground, as cars have no brakes. As far as salt, sure you'll need to clean up. Maybe...

    Cane Creek Thudbuster LT Review

I've got about 6000 miles and 4 seasons on mine - no noticeable degradation of the elastomer. Really made the difference as my back was hurting without it.

    starter solenoid (battery switch)

the higher voltage shouldn't matter unless you switch while pulling a load, you might get some arcing because of the caps charging tho. Old Fords used to have a remote solenoid switch, a little overkill for this application but probably wouldn't fail

Seeking DD motor, wanting selection and opinion

re 9c disassembly - FWIW I popped off one side cover, then made a handle out of a piece of flat stock with a hole drilled to accept the axle, had two guys hold the rim and just pulled the stator out by hand. The bearings are not in the housing real tight, just a light press. Then again I had...

    Have $3-4k to spend

I've had no issues in 3 full seasons with my LT thudbuster, it really helps. Your Motiv is a sharp looking machine! I just dropped about 3k on a Surly LHT based build, but may have done it differently if i had seen the Motiv.

Seeking DD motor, wanting selection and opinion

bowls- the stock bearings have noticeable play, if you're in there already might as well replace them, can get from mcmaster for 10-15$ there was a thread on refurbing corroded 9c motors maybe two year ago by kingfisher ? lots of good info I guess I should come clean and say that I did not...

Seeking DD motor, wanting selection and opinion

if you are willing to set up a 9c they are fine, that means a good rim, spokes, bearings, boeshield. Maybe $100 and a day, after purchase of the motor. They are then rock-solid, quiet, easily capable of 30 mph duty. That kind of takes out of the "plug and play" category though. No experience...

Are these ebike batteries legitimate or questionable?

I'm on the 4th season with my 48v 15ah ping and its on the charger whenever i'm not riding. No noticeable degradation yet, but then I don't normally stress it much. One ride this season used 12ah.

    PING BATTERY OR NOT

My 48v 15 ah PING is in fine shape in its 4th season. The use is conservative, I usually discharge no more than 10 AH, and recently more like 5. I did break (physically damage) the BMS a couple years back and replaced it, had to put on a new charging FET on the new unit. I leave it on charge...

    Hidden costs of ebike

I think that for many there will be no money saved, but there other considerations. In 3 yrs of ebiking i've saved maybe $1200 in gas, and spent at least $2000 in gear. In way better shape, so worth every penny. Look at it a hobby with great health benefits and the chance to recoup some cost. If...

    weight loss

Got into a weight loss bet at work with two other guys, this was about 7 weeks ago. Bet was ended last week as 2 of us were looking rather peaked. Bottom line - won the bet, 46 lbs in 44 days. The e-bike was the secret weapon, spent nearly 15 hrs a week in the saddle (250 - 300 miles weekly)...

    ping bms issue

I also got a set of 16s wires. To use them for monitoring/charging individual cells wouldn't the connector have to plug into the existing sense wire connector from the battery? Mine is all taped up/shrink wrapped so its hard to see if that would work. It would be great in general to have a...

    ping bms issue

I charged an unbalanced cell (on a ping 48v 15 ah) thru the sense cable by folding some stranded copper wire and jamming it into the plug, It did not hurt the socket. It isn't something you should do all the time. Be careful not to overcharge, the response is not linear and you need to keep an...

puncture proof, airless tire, .. almost there.

I've found pinch flats are largely dependent on my technique when installing tubes. If I check carefully all the way around both beads to be sure there are no pinches it helps a lot. No sliding of tire irons.
