OpenBafangTool - New Open-Source Bafang Configuration Tool

Hi,
I have some questions and need to report some trouble:
The tool reads "11 parameters, 0 unsuccessful".
I have set certain parameters (assist levels (there are 5), start current, current loading time,...); the writing to the controller seemed to work (no error message);
I powered everything down, pulled also the battery and restarted (it still said: 11 parameters, 0 unsuccessful; so, it could read everything like in the beginning?!). But the tool was not able anymore to interpret/display any of the Motor characteristics (see pic error). But a test ride with the bike seemed to indicate that it worked as intended...
Therefore I installed the BESST software (see pic besst); it was able to read without error certain parameters; not as many as the OpenBafangTool... and I was able to change the parameters (circumference (Umfang), Acceleration (Beschleunigung),...);
after that I started again the OpenBafangTool and now it was able to read/display again the full set of parameters. But some of them were back again to the "original" value. Starting Current for example shows a "red zero".
Question: Does a red zero mean it can not be changed or should not be changed?
Some parameters are "strange": "Motor Trigger" shows "4" but when I click the pull-down there can not be selected a numerical value but only (3 (!, not 4) different text values (see pic trigger).
Also the "Lower voltage limits" can not be right: with "under load" it shows 121V (!) and "without load" 24V...

So, there seem to be some bugs: the tool can not read data it has written before. And there could be a mis-interpretation of some data: 121 V can not be real...
I have added the Firmware version.

Thanks for the nice tool, since I can't be sure how long my account at BAFANG will stay alive.

That's well known, Bafang has changed the CAN protocol obviously, this issue is fixed in the Bafang canable tool already. But Bafang seems to release OEM specific firmware meanwhile, so depending on your firmware version, some things will work with the BESST (and alternatives) and some not. That's my experience with my hub motor controller also. :(

hey . if i want to drain battery completely , having 54v battery , which parameter to set ? idle or under load ? or both ?
if i set real battery capacity - will this affect battery level bars on the display ? i mean that they will show more precise battery level?
and , finally , is this safe to meddle with ? no way to brick controller ?

@pxl666 your system voltage shows as 36V in your picture, not 54V. And for what is in the thick red rectangles regarding voltages, read the 2 posts right above yours.
OpenBafangTool does show the value for "system voltage" and "high voltage limit" correct. So if you look at these, and then look at what is in the red rectangles... That should ring a bell that what shows in the red rectangle can't be right... Which means - don't change those value's - in the red rectangle or...

these are not my values , only demo values from the program. things are changing rapidly so i want to ask before ... i understand that in current state changing voltages is not reccomended

Yes I made this experience.
OpenBafangTool (and some others too) allow to program arbitrary values.
It is for example possible to set Low Voltage to 20V. This is an "illegal" value.
This value can be programmed and can be read after programming.
However, my Bafang Controller does apparently not allow this value.
Some other tools (Penoff) read a list of allowed values from the controller and do not permit to program other than the allowed values.
(So far I know, I have read the sourcecode, but I am not 100% fit with this)

After I programmed 20V, I could not reset it. There was always an error message after I tried to reset it.

Now, why does this happen? I believe, as soon the controller contains an "illegal" value, it will send error messages which the OpenBafang tool (and also the Penoff tool) does not expect and cannot understand, and this breaks the communication protocol.

What is the point of this software if i cant change the speed limit. I mean the only reason why would anybody use this tool is unlock the stupid speed limit, but it is not possible. Dude why?

Какой смысл в этой программе, если я не могу изменить ограничение скорости? Единственная причина, по которой кто-то может использовать этот инструмент, — это разблокировать это дурацкое ограничение скорости, но это невозможно. Чувак, почему

not really . i personally have other things in mind and speed limit is only on the list but not on top ...

Hi everyone. First of all thank you for this tool. Looks promising. I have the yuvy 2 e-bike from Elwing. Anyone know if this tool is compatible ? Can’t find the answer. Thanks !

Hi to all and thanks for all the support.
I have a new bike with bafanga m560.
I've already purchased a BESST tool kit. I can read the controller parameters but I'm having trouble writing them.
Specifically, my engine is already unlocked at 45km/h by my dealer, but since the account I obtained with the CAN Tool recognizes that I'm in Europe and therefore the speed limit is lower, it prevents me from modifying and writing parameters. The version of BESST is the latest, 1.7, which I use on Windows 10.I would like your advice on how to proceed? Should I follow this thread
( Bafang_M500_M600/BESST at main · OpenSourceEBike/Bafang_M500_M600 ) and install an older version of BESST with the login pass or switch directly to OpenBafangTool?

hey guys, im new with these stuff. I have GASGAS Moto2 Europian version. Can I upgrade speed and power of my bike without changing controler (since its factory harness directly to hub)? if so waht I need?
