A recumbent build

Anybody with the erider t17 sensor with 5 arm spider from Grin able to comment on how you fit a triple on the spider? My current chainrings are 52-42-30 with the 30t being mounted on a second set of mounts smaller than the 130 bcd ones. I'd like to reuse them.

Why? The torque response will change according to the chainring size. And you can get 11-51 and 10-50 cassettes anymore. Triple cranks are obsolete in terms of gear range and hideously inferior in terms of livability and shifting behavior.

My advice is get a double crank with a less extreme cassette range (e.g. 11-40), with one ring focused on powered operation and the other focused on unpowered operation. You'll probably leave it in one ring almost all the time. Maybe after you've done that a while, you'll be willing to use just one ring and recognize how much better that is.

Simplest answer is "Because it's there already"

These suggestions have appeal, especially a 1x would simplify things greatly. Would need a new rear derailleur to fit a wider range cassette though. Biggest drawback to that is honestly I just don't want to bother doing all the research to figure out what I should use instead. What are your suggestions for a wider range groupset? Should I stay 9 speed?

Sunrace M9 (RDM900) is a great choice-- cheapish, clutched, functional up to 51t sprockets, and compatible with Shimano pattern 5-6-7-8-9 speed shifters.

Just because you have three rings on the front doesn't mean you have to use them all. You can lock the front derayray in just the middle and outer rings for the same one-click simplicity as a double crank setup.

How about this...

ebike mode: chainring 1
bike mode: chainring 2
shifter: your finger + a rag

Good strategy if you infrequently have to shift modes, lol.

That's a workable solution. However a front derailleur has the secondary effect of keeping the chain from bouncing off the ring. All my single ring bikes with rear derailleurs have front derailleurs that aren't connected to anything, which are mounted lower than normal so they straddle the chain where it passes over the chainring. So I don't need no stinkin narrow-wide chainring or clutched derailleur.

To switch rings with a setup like that, I would have to have enough tools to adjust the derailleur limit screws and loosen the frame clamp to let the chain over.
