Hey guys!

New here.
Looking for a replacement for the bbs02b. For 7 years it has served me more than great and gave me great experiences and many tours around EU.

I am looking for something similar in power but would love to go torque. I think tsdz8 and tsdz16 would be the closest in price and specs. My only concern is if they wont work with my 52v battery. All material suggest 48v besides a varstrom tsdz16 variant that is selling with 52v. So I'm confused.

Will it be safe to use 52v in either of them?

Thank you.

Just a small footnote. I have the eggrider 2 but if I go with anything besides bafang uart I'll loose it... Is there a similar thing for the tsdz if I go that way? Ekd011 seems like it?

I think the Bafang bbs is still the best.A bad torque sensor and a overheating weak motor as most of them are is very overhyped.Maybe cyc photon 2 is good?

The bbs02 was solid, don't get me wrong. But at some point it felt like a moped rather than a ebicycle to me. And I only used it in pas 3 with the eggrider at like 250w and max 25kmh in flats.

Also sadly bafang moved to canbus which turns my eggrider dead.

The only reason I have to stay is if I can find the bbshd and that's only for better thermals and able to go up mountains more easily...

The photon looks nice, but it's like 1500. I don't consider it diy at that price point and I can as well get a pre built at that price. Maybe toseven but no parts available, closed like cyc and not many people playing with it...

You think bbs felt like a moped and then you say you want a bbshd ??

Toseven parts are available from US vendors like JohnnyNerdOut (I got a motor from him, had some issues with firmware, he has great customer service). Additionally, though it may take some time, Toseven will usually respond to messages on aliexpress if you need a specific part and you can figure something out. Wear items like the nylon gear are cheap and available though.
It's a mixed bag because the motor is quite well built, but it's definitely had some teething pains especially with their firmware. There's definitely a bit of a modding community around the DM01 and DM02 if you look in the right places, for example I have opened mine up to mod it for better thermals with some pads between the controller and the motor casing, and replace the grease.
I'm not sure about any compatibility with 3rd party screens though.

End of the day, it's probably best if you are a bit of a tinkerer, since there's a chance you'll need to be. However I like the torque sensing feel and there's a good bit of adjustability.

I've looked dinto them and contacted them on Ali as I'm not US based. The price with shipping and customs reaches the photon gen2...

Ah, I didn't notice. Yeah, that definitely doesn't help with the pricing.
No worries.

That's why I'm looking at the tsdz8/16 tbh.
Anecdotal they seem to work with 52v. Sellers say they do, but I don't wanna frock upy battery with the low cutoff or cause issues for the engine...

Hopefully your battery has its own cutoff, may need to adjust other SoC kind of settings though. 52v almost always works with 48v controllers, it's just not that big of a difference.
