Hi everyone!

Are there any companies that will do a 100% customized ebike, no stock parts from their own designs, no "customize your ride within our list of available options," I mean a company that will actually help you build something from the ground up *exactly* how you want it?

I'm looking but I can't find anything. I'm not very technically skilled with building stuff, I get hella frustrated putting together furniture, so something like this is way out of my capabilities. But I want something hyper specific and I'm not sure how exactly to get that without trying to just do it myself and risking frocking up expensive parts.

If anyone knows a reputable company that will do CUSTOM ebikes, please let me know!

If you don't want to learn the art ( hey, this website is great for that, and people here love answering questions )..

You could post an ad in the help wanted/offered section

Reputable company? you're probably looking for an individual if you want a decent price

You may need to go visit shops in your area to find one that does custom work. They may be few and far between. There’s one near me that I ride by once in a while to look at some custom bikes they park out front. Looking into the shop, there are all kinds of bikes, and while there are some e-motos, a lot seem to be stealth builds with bottle cage batteries, etc, that don’t scream out ebike.

No insult intended... But I would not touch you as a customer with a 10 foot pole!
I have spent most of my life designing and building mechanical devices ( FAR more complicated than ebikes) and there is no worse/ dangerous customer than someone " that wants something, but is not sure what it is"!

How about this... Start a thread and simplify explain the bIke you a looking to assemble AND ask "how would you guys go about putting my dream bike together?"

This site has some REALLY SMART members that are both happy to share their knowledge and very tolerant of "greenhorns".

Hey as long as they pay upfront and for your time... :p

Start here by defining exactly what you want to create.

I mean, we here at Endless Sphere are technically a "company" of people willing to help out.

It is best to start with "meaningful" parameters. Like a conservative top speed, weight ( remember regardless of the fancy bicycle hardware, the battery is doing to be heavy), and the one that is most often ignored... the ergonomics!!!
It is a common fault of individuals with little or no design skills... design/ build it to look cool😎 then learn after the fact it is TERRIBLE to ride!

You will put more miles on a bike that looks like shit but fits you perfectly, then the most stylish rig that makes you feel like you are riding a "clown bike".

The 510 area code is the east bay region, and I'm surprised a company in CA would do custom work. The shops that I'm familiar with in socal wouldn't touch a project like that because of potential liability.

Most CA shops barely want to touch any ebike at all, which is understandable with the state of the average amazon/aliexpress/alibaba ebike. I don't have the capability to do such a build or I might be interested though, doing new things is the best part of any hobby.

I wonder how long it will take before a lawyer convinces a DIY ebiker to sue themselves when they get injured on the ebike they built.

That’s such a great thread — it really shows how custom e-bike building is more of a personal craft than a service industry. Once you start defining your geometry and ride goals, the rest follows naturally.

I remember when the first wheel was built and someone yelled out it needs a Hub Motor!
That’s only half the story. By that time, fire had been around for a while already, but someone decided they needed a better way to start one than rubbing sticks together, so they invented the cheap ebike battery. People had fun for a while, until some idiot invented lawyers…

Still can not buy what I want, they are getting closer. Everyone here guided me when I built my trike and it's still what I want.

If the capability is $ or space, OK; otherwise a custom build is easy as pie especially with the assistance this site provides.

Yeah, I have a home workshop set up in my studio apartment, and I don't have any particular skill in metal fabrication xD

Given a custom frame, I could fit a custom battery, a motor of some variety, and put out a finished build... eventually.
