..or not locking the bike outside when it's not within your view

There are a few members here that just made their bike so ugly that nobody would want to steal it.

Ha! That was my intent with this puppy. But I realized making it unique enough to stand out was just as easy.

I was also considering etching my name on some parts like the rims and frame since they're rare enough to spot on the street in my area.

These days everybody has a cordless angle grinder that will cut through anything pretty fast, but it will be a bit noisy.

A long enough pair of hard enough cutters will be silent (other than perhaps a TWANGCLANK as the cut completes) and cut thru any chain you could actually still carry on the bike.

Battleship Anchor chain might work, but you'd need a trailer.... :lol:

I did that (dayglo avenger, crazybike2, delta tripper), and later made it too big and obviously custom (crazybike2 and sb cruiser).

If you cannot store thebike inside, at least take any easy to move parts inside..

Anything that makes it less attractive than other bikes..
but still use a tracker and a couple of good locks on the frame

Thats a good idea! Maybe for fun, I’d laser engrave my name on parts with a metal face.

Any other lock brand recs?

I don't know that there's any particular lock brand that is invincible. I like to use 2 or 3 different technology locks at the same time that require different tools to defeat them. Generally, thick cable, u-lock, and disc rotor clamplock that screams when it detects movement. Rotor lock on the rear rotor, where the bike's weight is so it can't be easily wheelied up and rolled away.

And spend a few moments studying the neighborhood before deciding to leave the bike locked up there.

One time I was about to lock the bike in front of a bakery when I noticed a guy couldn't take his eyes off the bike, practically drooling and rubbing his hands in anticipation for me to enter the bakery. It was too obvious so I brought the bike in with me, they didn't mind.

New lock is 14mm chain w/ Kryptonite 1415 NY lock, 20lbs.
