this needs to be made electric! ;)

Wow, looks like a primo candidate for a rear hubmotor makeover. Drive the tread with the hub. :D

I like the rear disk brake and the mag wheel. Shame they forgot the front brake. Or did they? I see a cable going from the handlebars down that way....

hey there xyster, yeah, i think that is the disc brake from original wheel that was there, supposedly its a quick swap out kit for any mountain bike. but it would have been cool to have that brake do something fancy with that front ski ;)

How do you put a brake on a ski? LOL

After I noticed the front cable, I was thinking it could be for some kind of flap system inset into the ski, like on an airplane wing.

 I'm guessing you've never snow skiied. :)

Though this might need some modification to work on a bike ski. But so long as you're not going down a steep slope I really think the rear brake would be sufficient.

I bet we'll see knoxie with one of those on the back of his KMX this winter on youtube

Stop pedaling like a mad-man.. and you will come to a quick stop. in a very short distance.. Unless you are going down a mountain that is..

I'm a decent, intermediate-level downhill skier -- top comfortable speed on intermediate slopes of about 30-40mph. If I had this device, I'd want to ride the bike up the mountain, then ski the bike down the mountain -- skip the ski lift lines and expense :). So good brakes front and rear would be a must.

First and last time i went downhill, was hilarious, for everyone but me.

I've done plenty of cross country, but had never gone downhill before, got to the resort, looked at the bunny hill and watched the kids swerve left/right.. looked easy enough.

I get my skis and head to the hill..

Now, the resort is mid-way down the hill.. so you ski all the way down, take the lift all the way up and away you go..

As i take off, watching carefully for others, this kid jumps in front of me.. and i'm already gathering speed... FAST.... so to avoid him i steer directly down the hill.. bad move... gulp.. WIPEOUT !!!.. lost both skis, poles.. my toque.. ouch..

So.. i get up, gather my parts, thank god for ski brakes ( as shown above ) .. my friend catches up to me and explains the process , wich i quickly learn, and all is good...

Until ! :: I fall a few times, nothing serious, and i'm getting the hang of this, so i decide to just coast to the bottom and get in line at the lift.. well.. lets just say that coast is not the right word for it.

You know those orange, plastic fences ? used to keep pedestrians in line.. well.. a 180 lbs man.. out of control, screaming from the top of his lungs " GET OUT OUT OF THE WAY !!!! " sliding on his back.. will go right thru those !!!

Funny story, Yski. I started downhill skiing at age 4. So sports requiring a face-forward balancing act, like water and snow skiing and ice and roller skating, have come easily to me. Turning sideways like for snowboarding, skateboarding and surfing totally messes me up though -- so I suck at those sideways-gliding sports. :?

In the ski/snowboard community we call this move a YARD SALE. :D I'm an expert at this trick!

Yeah, and it sucks when your boot releases unproperly and the brake doesn't drop. You either have to ski with the one ski you still have doing a strange balancing act; or do that goofy running while wearing stiff ski-boots downhill chasing your high-speed skiierless runaway ski. Quite fun actually... damn I can't wait for it to start snowing again!

LMFAO!!!!!! Nice imagery.

Lol.. that's only part of the story..

Once i had my 2nd Yard-Sale as you call it .. thru that orange fence...

The crowd of 100 standing in line for the lift who all jumped out of the way rather quickly as i was roaring thru.... all staring at me with blank looks on their faces.. most were likely reaching for their cell phones to call an ambulance...

the chair lift guy hit the panic button to stop the lift.. ran over.. and went

" DUUUUDE.. i've been working here 5 years, and i've never seen anyone do THAT before !!! whoa... are you ok man ? "

Surprisingly .. i was fine.. snow in every crevice imaginable, and my toque was MIA.. but i gather my marbles and get back up.. people bring me back my skis, poles, gloves, someone found my toque... god only knows how far they went..

I get in line.. and they let me back on the lift !!!! go figure ! :D

Did you ever fall off the lift, or fail to make it on OK? I did when I was a little kid. Thankfully, I think I avoided getting whacked in the back of the head with the chair -- always a risk with beginners and chair lifts. Which is why beginners are supposed to start out on the rope-tow. :)

is there a bike accessory that is an interchangable front fork that has two front wheels? that would change a bike into a trike?

that would give you better stability in the snow.

For a bike? I think 2 wheels would be imposable, or at least damn hard.
I can see dual skis, though.

2 Dollars! I want my 2 Dollars!
:D

I used to be on Ski Patrol and have seen all kinds of strange things on snow. I would be amaze to see some one ride that ski bike on flat ground let alone up a ski slope. With no gyro effect from a front wheel I don't know how you would keep your balance. I'm sure it would be fun to watch someone try.

how about having removable stabilizing wheels for the snow?

like training wheels on a kids bike but bigger. that would make an ebike stable in the snow and ice!

I think it would be okay on the flat. I bike in the snow rather more than I care to and the biggest difficulty is sinking into the deep stuff. If those ski's had enough surface area to keep you on top it should work pretty well. (It wouldn't work well in the cities because those wussy car drivers insist on having the roads plowed.) I wouldn't get on a slope with it though. Way too much potential energy just waiting to all kinetic.

With no gyro effect from a front wheel I don't know how you would keep your balance.

The gyro effect is overrated. Ask anyone who rides a unicycle.

I was thinking the same thing. Slalom (single ski) waterskiing isn't harder to learn than riding a bike, and there's no gyro effect with skis.
