GCinDC's Giant DH Comp

that looks like 470R so just the one should be fine. that is 170mA initial surge so it may be too hard on the led but it should work. when the led turns off it is down to 2V anyway so there is no spark left.

With the precharge a suggest adding a led. I have a high brightness one on my monster build, I put the mom switch on the plug so I grab it, the light goes on and fades out then I plug it in and let go. No sparks :) and cool led charge indicator.
Led +1k r in parallel with big 200 ohm 1/2 watt r
i've whipped up a diag of what i'm pretty sure nicobie suggests with the momentary switch, but, pendragon, did i need to create a third parallel line for the led, or can it be inline w/ the momentary switch as shown?

now that i look at it, the led is on no circuit, so that won't do...

for the resistor, i happen to have 5 Watt 470 ohm Metal Oxide Film resistors which i used on previous precharge circuits, so one of them will be fine, right?
like this: and if want you can make it so the main "switch" is a plug with the pre charge push button directly on it so you can use one hand on each plug instead of fumbling around with more switches and plugs than you have hands.

sorry for mumbling so much, its hard to tell how load to speak with the phone camera.

Since the adaptto has a nearly-zero-draw sleep mode I rarely unplug my pack, just when I pull it off to take up into the apartment for charging. Very handy, especially since the adaptto has a naster password lock when asleep. But I agree, precharge is a must.

thanks, pendragon! i feel like i know your thumb a lot better after watching that in full screen. do you chew your nail by the way?

i wasn't sure about the putting the switch on the positive or GND line, and i see you've corrected me. seems to work ok, but wonder why the difference..

do you have a bms on it? if so, and you configure it to balance above a certain voltage, it'll balance all night long, and the bms board(s) get wicked hot! hence my concern.

last night, i brought the bike inside and left if on but didn't charge it. i left it showing the cell voltage screen and here it was this morning:

i plugged in the charger, and the screen stayed dim... (but interesting how some cells spike under charge load)

but after the cells hit 4.16, they start balancing:

and i don't want this running overnight...

but if i continue to charge in the AM, and just leaving it on at night, i'll never really have to turn it off...

oh, and my ass got wet even w/ rear fender yesterday, so in the afternoon, i held the gopro out to see the spray pattern...

looks like the fender will have to be right over tire to do much good, unless i made it much bigger....

Yeah, here's a video I made. Fenders close to both tires, I didn't get wet at all!

nice cresh. pretty soon you'll have to add the snorkel gear...

meanwhile, all that slop froze up overnight:

No bms, I got a great deal on a Cellman A123 20ah pack... three figures shipped! :) eventually I may tear it up, build a new battery box, fit the bms on there, and re-waterproof it.... thankfully the heatshrink is thick enough to reuse. But that's a big and almost pointless project. Currently trying to figure out what is wrong with my Geogram One, get a bag for my rack... and fix a crack in one of my idlers.

Love the adaptto unit, but I do have an issue where the LCD display has solid vertical lines through it sometimes. Also, I sometimes have to restart it to get it to actually go when I use the throttle, despite correctly displaying the voltage! But the silence and efficiency... and the display... and usb, and great connectors... (rambling good things forever)

Almost all aftermarket fenders are crap. If you want to keep your ass dry AND the bike you need fendes which are close to the wheel so they actually cover it.

One important thing is that the fender needs to cover end of the wheel, like in my crappy picture, if you build yours like this, you will be dry.

No posts here from GC in 8 days?
oh yeah, i forgot, i had the flu and was down for 5 days. :x

had warmed up this weekend, so i swapped out the studded front wheel with the hookworm and it felt so good to dive into turns again, like i just didn't have the traction to do with the studded tire. but now it's snowing again this morning!

and while i never found the momentary switch, i've got one side of a resistor bolted to the post and a connect the precharge circuit with clips, a temporary solution... (which for me might end up being 6 months, lol):

I still find all your snow photos and videos amazing. Such a foreign concept to me. I was you I was think thinking about when I gave the shout out in my latest vid as I walked for miles in the hot sun!

thanks for the link, hyena. i missed that one. walk of shame, for sure, but looked like a hell of a nice walk to me! especially about now, with all the snow mess up my way..

good thing you had enough day left. i kept waiting for wild animals to pop out of the woods (...or out of your new beard, haha)

might be faster next time to ride a bmx bike back in, and then just sling it over for the haul out?

meanwhile, this morning's commute:

Hey Greg.
im just getting to wiring up my ebrake hall throttle for varyable regen.

i couldnt find the wiring diagram in the manual you spoke of, only pinouts.

i guesse its pretty simple though, just like the throttle but with the white wire on the pigtail as the varyable wiper input?and with the same gnd and +5v on the other two wires in the hall throttle unit?
