Gocarlite?

I found a Yelp review of Electric bike solutions- appears to be a dealer in California. I have not heard of this Vendor, SO I think he is not well known around ES.

Maybe you could contact him with your question, I believe his name is doug. My guess is that motor is an upgraded BPM (bafang).

I do think that is a good price, but someone with your bike skills could build a kit cheaper. I think with your size, and the hills, that a direct drive motor would be better for you than a geared. geared motors do not shed heat as well as DD motors.

there is a company Wes reccomends to budget minded builders called yesusa.com http://www.yescomusa.com/Brushless_Electric_Bicycle_Engine-_48v_1000w_Rear_Wheel_Hub_Motor_Kit.html
They have cheap dd motors and have been recommended by others.

Batteries are another story, I can personally recommend ping battery, Em3ev and ebikes.ca for batteries. Others will hopefully chime in there recommendations. A good battery is required, should go with a recommended vendor, esp for batteries.

Where in maine are you? I live in MAss and have some used 9C DD hub motors hanging around, If you are on a tight budget. I could part with one and a controller cheaply. But they would need a new wheel build, and some soldering may be involved. I would not ship but would meet half way if you wanted.

Did you see the PDF from gocarlyte.com, he explains more details about his kits and even includes a telephone number for question.

file:///C:/Users/Lisa/Downloads/Electric Bike Soulitions Conversion Kit Owner%27s Manual.pdf

that Link is to a ten page PDF , it is an owners manual from GOcarlyte in it he says

You will see motors advertised as 1000W on sites like Ebay and you might think, wow what a great deal
on a powerful motor! The problem is any power level can be slapped on a motor. Most of these are
actually 500W motors. Both our direct drive and geared motors operate very well at more than 1000W
with a 48 volt battery (especially the direct drive); however, that is not where they operate most
efficiently. They are most efficient cruising at 500W for the direct drive and 400W for the geared. So
don't get caught up on power ratings or fooled by exaggerated advertising claims. For more information
on your power requirements, contact us at 707-439-3179

What the those letters stamped on the side cover? Looks like MXUS######## almost.

The vendor likes to keep his manufacturers secret, so I won't mention the name on the hub and controller, but it is on the "top tier" of the "top 10" thread in the Testing & Reviews subforum.
Well, we don't like secrets here on ES, ;) it's all about the information, so why not just tell us what it is?

Or did you have to sign an NDA just to get the kit? :p

As far as I can see, the motor is a clone of the Bafang CST made by MXUS. IIRC, their designation is XF01A. To answer one of your previous questions, it'll be able to handle light trail use. They're pretty strong, but it's probably not a good idea to do big jumps.
