MC street tire for a Bomber

My Bomber rear tire gets way to many cuts and flats. Is there a small street MC tire that will mount to its 24" wheel?

I have tried Hookworms, Crazy Bobs and I just ordered a set of Big Apples to try.

At the moment I'm running the Crazy Bobs tubeless using Stans no tubes.

The weight of the Bomber R cuts them too EZ, the F tire is not a problem.

There is a market here I bet.

Im also wondering about MC tires to use on by greyborg... but I dont even know what motorcycle tire size works for 24" bycicle wheel. Im gessing it would be 18" MC tire... anyone?

I know that there are several using 16in motorcycle tires on 20in bicycle rims, but I dunno if there is any cross-over for a 24in bicycle rim.

Many are using moped rims and lacing them onto bicycle hubs, John Rob Holmes has built a few wheels with moped rims, and I'm pretty sure John in CR has some experience with these, and Live For Physics.

I forget what Dr.Bass is using, IIRC he was just using heavy duty DH rims and tires to go fast on his latest build.

I haven't found any 24 inches motorbike tyre in my previous researches,
Anyway if you go 24 a 2.4/ 2.5 tire will look HUGE and perform better (on the road) than any heavy motorcycle tyre. It's a matter of weight, you don't want a tyre that react like a brick on every little bump, motorbike tyres you could possibly be interested (quite common in 20inches so bmx rims) ,
have an internal structure that make them rigid and very heavy, translated means less acceleration more energy loss.

Also, some MTB compounds is softer than standard motorbike tyre, so more grip, better mechanical, lighter,
do you want to drive your GB or you want to fly on it? Power is nothing without control.

Want something special? Go for something like this,it's plenty of 24 inches magnificent tyres, you will not regret.

Rides in the Bronx it looks like. Bet the streets in any large city are just full of sharp stuff, even if they do sweep often.

Relace to a moped rim seems to be the only good option. Look at last springs racing bike threads, I believe LFP's pinky was moped rim or motorcycle rim.

I have 2000 miles on the rear on my hookworms, and they're pretty much shot.

I think the OD of a moped tire/rim is smaller than what the OP wants. There are light weight forged aluminum 19" moto rims if you can't find a tire that fits a 24" mtb rim. For tires maybe some of the racing moto tires would be lighter than the dot ones?

Too bad there isn't a common moped or motorcycle rim and tire that is closer to 24" bike. We need it because we aren't really building ebikes. We're building ultralight motorcycles.

We need motorized bike racing to really take off, so they will make this stuff for us. 8)

How many times have you changed the tire on it?

Same tyres. I rotated them @ ~ 10,000km.

1st puncture back tyre @ ~ 9,000km sharp piece of glass 500m from home, was able to get home fine
2nd puncture back tyre @ ~ 12,000km glass again few kms from work, had to stop once to pump it up
3rd puncture front tyre @ ~ 21,000km steel splinter, only discovered it the next morning
4th puncture back tyre @ ~ 23,000 km glass, only discovered it when I got home - hissing sound

BTW patched the tube without taking the wheel out. Much quicker and easier.

They are quite worn now, I'm waiting to see if the new version of BA (will be announced at Interbike) are any better. They are nowhere near as strong as a motorbike tyre, but they roll so much better.

I've got a set of Hookworms too, don't like them as much. There's a guy rides a Bomber with 10,000km on them.

Also bought a set of Schwalbe SuperMotos - they are so thin (walled) don't think I'd be using them.
