there is a fuse . The 40A slow blow. I need a headlight though and a decent reflector. It has brakes too. They could use an adjustment. and as far as SLA abuse the video I am posting coming home shows me doing pedal assist. As soon as it slowed down going up the hill. The SLAs slowed down almost home also and possible causes could be the alligator clips and the below freezing weather.

The SLAs are fairly new and 48V@10AH should go about 10 miles but it looks like five miles is maximum. Once I get the red bike going with 24V@30AH and use the bullet connectors instead of the alligator clips that will tell us how good the SLAs are. I am continually told about improper gearing but as I said before I know what the issues are however never see a post for spoke sprockets larger than 56T or 60T.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9rELOU1DgqI

Also I am thinking about using the triangle rack for the red bike if it will fit. The 24" bike in the video has a front and rear basket now. The smaller cash box will fit perfect in the front basket with the new LIPO packs and with the five pound chain and padlock also in the front basket I will heve good weight distribution and can use the rear basket for cargo. The red bike will have two baskets front and rear also and if I succeed in hooking the triangle rack so I can slide the SLAs three on each side. I will be working on mounting the 500W motor on the red bike and modifying the triangle rack for the red bike.

Where is the link I asked for a 65T spoke sprocket for the bike in the videos I just posted? I have looked and looked. If there isn't any there should be someone who could make it custom without charging too much money. Eventually I will need to change the tire so would not mind running a 65T spoke sprocket instead of the 56T on there now. I bet it would have made it up the hills in the uptown video without pedaling with a 65T spoke sprocket. Please post one if you can. Also looking for a link for XT90 to 4mm bullet connectors for the new LIPOs. I am looking also but need to wait until the first to order anything. Thanks. Please post if you can.

I just found this but will need a #35 motor sprocket and a #35 chain. I would rather just get a 65T #415 spoke sprocket .

I found it but too broke to order until Tuesday.

charge cable.

Wonder how those antispark plugs work?

You're running 48V 40A controller (optimal 1280w in 1000w out) 3000rpm 11t - 56t sprockets on 20" wheel?
Geared for 35.7mph!
If geared properly 1000w could motivate at 30mph but poor ratio might limit to an anemic low 20s mph.

Full throttle from 0-20+mph would draw 40A from 10A battery = 4C ... But SLA inefficiency at that rate could drain battery at 25-33% efficiency or 12-16C = rapid destruction of battery!!!

72 & 80T chainrings available ~$280.
Best bet is modifying a 9t D sprocket to Dual D ... Method described earlier.
11T 35.7mph >> 9T 29.2mph

I did not have to dig too far to find that. It came off the old Currie motor. Is there any chance it would work? maybe if I put a washer under it and over it . I think I can make it work with the right size washer. It is worth a try. As far as the SLAs in the video I don't think I went over 15mph and probably closer to 12mph most of the time and pedaled up the hills so I am hoping I did not do too much damage to the SLAs. I needed to test full throttle just before I got home basically to find the limitations of the SLAs as far as usable range goes and 5 miles is pushing them.

Basically I plan on getting more LIPO anyway and I wont need to run SLA much anymore. It is better to run SLA rather than LIPOs when the temperature outside drops below freezing though right? What about when it gets really hot outside like above 90 degrees? LIPO or SLA? Which is better? Please let me know.

Basically all the unite motors are the same. I stole the nut off the 280W motor and got it on the shaft from the old original MY1020 motor that has the broken magnets. It seems to fit on tight. A washer under it didn't work but one on top of it did. It might be worth a shot. Too late tonight though. Dont want to piss off the downstairs neighbors pounding on the brackets to get the chain back on tight though. Thanks DA for letting me know that I have another option than a larger spoke sprocket.

Top picture shows the 11T sprocket I ordered which was 17mm instead of 10 and I JB welded it to a #25 11T dual D bore. If I can find the right grinding attatchment for my electric drill I could grind the 9T currie sprocket down about 1/8" or enough to get a nut on the motor shaft and JB weld the 9T to the 11T like I did bofore.

Also since both 280W motors are missing a motor sprocket as that is the only nut that fits besides the one on the bike now how about a link for the friction drive wheels so I can build that 18" Razor bike. Please let me know.

Thanks.

It may be a solid build, but I'd say to be a great build, it'd need to be above average for at least a few of the following qualities:

1. Reliable
2. Efficient
3. Powerful
4. Discrete
5. Aesthetically pleasing

But, hey, if it has brakes and a fuse, it's a big step up from your last build!

You want the 9t D Sprocket from the same link as you got both 11t sprockets from. = 10mm shaft.
Might have to "shave" flat side of "D" slightly and shim or fill other side with JB Weld?

The currie 9T is 11mm shaft and much more difficult to adapt reliably to Dual D shaft 10mm shaft.

Staton-inc.com has a selection of friction drive rollers.

No doubt DA you are awsome :!: I will call staton-inc soon.

I am going to try a grinder to grind down that currie sprocket and try to make it work. There is quite a lot of metal to grind as shown in the picture ; at least 1/8". Being 11mm the 10mm will have to be centered perfect. The JB weld has been proven to hold as that 11T sprocket worked for awhile before I got the new one. If it don't work then I will follow your advice and order the other sprocket. I got enough JB weld to do both.

Problem solving skills are essential to advanced e bike building I believe. I managed to have two 1,000W Unite motors come apart and I put them back together and got them running on this post. That is not easy to do :!: That is why I really want to learn DC motors. Basically anyone can order the right parts. Making due or improvising and compromising are survivor traits.

If there was really a reality like the MAD MAX movies obviously they didn't have the option to order parts online. :D They would have to make what is available work. The Dual motor build I did was another example. I did not have a big motor as it was broken and I was sitting around waiting for a replacment to show up so I built a functional e bike with dual motors. The fake video of the accident was with the dual motors.

Thing is though I want the red bike going also and I might be working on that instead. It is still going to happen though but not sure which will happen first. Thanks DA I should have a really cool friction drive by this summer to show off on a video with the 18" Razor bike thanks to that link. :)

Friction Drive.jpg

Interestingly Enough, I do have an excessive inventory of B&D 12V VSR drills.
Maybe a dozen?

Complete "kit" for:

1. Motorizing various kiddy toys.
Add variable throttle and reverse function to the basic all go\no go function of most kiddy cars.
Some of the drills even have High\Low shift function!

2. Cut "handle from drill and extend via wires to hand.
Build small platform with drive wheels on rear.
Have dual pivoting "hangers" on front of platform.
Place hangers on rear lower support rod of shopping cart.
Cruise around stores "shopping".
Find woman with long flowing dress to float around the store ... ?

Got a couple spare 18V B&D VSR that run nicely on 6s LiPo ... if I decide to get serious ... ?

Scooter friction drive !
Scavenge old scooter
Mount to run tire against tire.
Add variable speed controller ... if necessary.

IMG_1175.JPG

Since you know a lot about drills I wonder what sort of attachment for a 3/8" electric drill would work best for grinding that down so it is flush. After that there will be plenty of room for the nut to tighten it down after I JB weld it to the dual D #25 11 tooth that came with the motor.

It will go on the motor shaft with a washer on top the way it is and I can tighten it down but am afraid that under stress it will fail.

I really want to get the red bike going today. I have to drill some new holes thru those heavy duty steel brackets and have to pound them out straight with a hammer first. I have everything else I need, controller, fuses, wire, etc. I am thinking about sticking to my original plan with the power bolts and keeping the triangle rack on the 24" bike simply because it will cost me quite a lot of money to convert everything over to bullet plugs. I have been spending way too much money on e bikes. That is why I want to make that 9 tooth from the Currie work as I have spent way too much $ ordering parts.

The SLAs on the back of the red bike with the motor on the front equalize the weight distribution the way it was but if I build a rack for it to hold the SLAs I can put the large basket that was on the Currie on it for lots of cargo. Thanks.

I really miss having that bike up and running. Now I have to push a shopping cart about 3 miles round trip to take back cans and 10 blocks round trip to do my laundry.

What I am trying to do is build the red bike to do all of that. I am still keeping the Currie as it is still the best cargo bike I ever had and plan to put it back together the way it was. It was running 36V@750W and 2250rpm. 80T #25 sprocket.11T motor speocket. I might go with a 90T and run it at 48V but other than that I am not changing anything.

I am not quite sure about friction drive just yet but am thinking about the dual motor set up on the 18" razor bike like it was on the blue Dimond Back I had. I got plenty of #25 chain to do it. I will need a 36V controller and put them in series. It obviously was not ideal for hills but I did get 10 to 12mph out of it which is perfect for a little 18" bike on flat ground. I can walk the hills.

That top picture really caught my eye when going back as it could work front or rear. Or front and rear for four motors total. Imagine four 4.5HP AmpFlow motors. How fast would that go? They are only about 3 pounds each. 18HP total. Should go close to 100mph. :D   Thanks.

As the Hub Motor Turns and the Lipo Fire Burns.

obviously using wood of any sort to mount a motor is a big No No. After several attempts I failed every time. Three that I counted. Will I ever try wood again? probably but only with the smaller and lighter 280W motors or motors of similar size not anything over 450W or 5 pounds.

Basically I guess I lied. Sorry about that. I caught my own lie though. I wasn't going to use wood but honestly did not feel like drilling thru that thick steel with shitty drill bits. It took about 7 hours as it was. Actually longer as I had to go to store, eat, etc..

I spent a lot of money on e bikes so it makes sense to have three of them now. I will be looking for a good high density pressure treated piece for the replacement. I can carve it out for the motor to sit in and have it ready. The old 13" piece will be the pattern for the new holes and can mount the motor first before installing and placed upside down fill those holes around the nuts holding the motor with fiberglass resin. I have worked with it before building 100+ gallon aquariums and know how strong it is. I can then use drylock which is a concrete based waterproof paint over several layers of quality brushed on primer after drilling all holes and before reinstalling moror.

For me installing a DC motor to the handlebar's with a 2 by 4 and run it a few blocks is one of the most awesome things I have ever done.

COMEON! ya gotta admit that's some shit. (Ghetto or Redneck) shit either way. I know Doug would be laughing. "COMEON" He used to yell that a lot when bragging about his Haro or gaming machine. You know I kind of miss my buddy Doug.

clobbering%20time.jpg

I remember posting that. Me and Doug had a falling out for awhile. He talked some shit and I was talking some shit. Honestly though I don't like to fight. If a friend of mine hit me it would be awkward. It would be different than fighting a stranger I guess as I would not want to hurt them. Some asshole that runs their mouth and steps out of a car. "Good Luck" as they say. I have not been carrying weapons as I am more scared of me using them than not having them in a situation. I tend to steer clear of shitutations. One of these days though if they keep it up someone will end up eating my master lock at the end of my chain.

I remember down in Florida back in 1991 I think. Pedaling from Jacksonville beach to ST. Augustine and about 5AM a big Doberman started chasing me. Huge white teeth and if he got me on the ground all that would have been left of me is a stinky dogs turd as nobody liked Yankees down there back then. I had a padlock with a chain and nailed the dog in the head and managed to escape with my life. It makes a good weapon. Pretty much like using numb chucks. You never seem to forget the times you could have met your maker as they say.

Nelson37. Please post if you can. maybe we can build Stephen an e bike. Or help him somehow. I think it is honorable that you try to help your friend.. The thing is though is he grateful? I helped my friend Dave downtown get his power turned back on and he is NOT grateful. He said he did it himself. I got proof via e mail that my friend Karl helped and the dude did not believe it. Why did I bother? He still owes me $80 now and I guess we are still friends at least until he pays me back but I am a little pissed off that he don't believe my friend at City Hall Karl helped him.

I am not the brothers keeper as they say. He called me as he has no friends or family and I helped him the best I could. I bought him a heater and let him borrow money. What I am saying Nelson37, is I know what you are going thru with Stephen. It is most difficult. If you need someone to talk to we are here. Thanks.

Actually I am not responsible for taking him out of the wild. He was given to me several years ago now. A drunk friend found him down by the river and brought him to me as he knows I like critters. He is in a large 55 gallon aquarium with about 8" of water and plenty of dry area to climb up on. I throw him a worm once in awhile before I feed the eels. He also gets his turtle food every day and I throw pieces of chicken in there sometimes. there were about 8 crayfish in there also but he may have eaten a few. I just saw the big one. Hard to tell with them as they shed their exoskeleton during their molting stage.

The water was my pond pump as every 10 days or so I flush out the tank. I use a fishnet to scoop out all the rotten food and poop. It is easy to keep a clean environment and only takes a few minutes about 3 times a month. I put him in the tub so he don't injure himself by climbing up high and jumping off into two or three inches of water and when I am scooping out the nasty shit with the net I need him out of the way.

Does anyone know how to tell if a turtle is male or female? I want to get him a mate as I am hoping for baby turtles. :D Please let me know. I slept in kind of late so I did not get a chance to do another video today but would like to do one soon in the back parking lot. Mr. Turtle can be the camera man and am thinking about jumping over a bus with the red bike. Thanks and please post soon.

As the Hub Motor Turns and the Lipo Fire Burns. New bike!

I just got back from Wall-Mart and walked for my heart. The eels are hungry and needed to get worms. I will probably throw the turtle and the frogs one each. It leaves 15 left which is three for each eel.

I saw a bike I really like at Wall-Mart. A 20" for $69 + tax. The name is Kent I think. It is multicolored and has blue brake handles. I am tired of crappy brakes and nobody to fix them. The checkout guy Austin is a close friend of Doug's. He has been looking for a job for awhile. I told him to tell Doug that I will be over to see him soon. His girlfriend is having a baby and so is his kids mother. They all live together with Doug's mother. Rumor has it Doug is the father of both and I wouldn't be surprised.

I was the same way at that age. Probably why I like him. I had three girls at one time riding around in a Cadillac listening to Big E Small and 9 inch nails. they all knew about each other also. Sometimes I hung out with two of them at the same time. I was fresh out of prison, Huge and made up for looks with high performance. I had a girl in three different towns in a 20 mile radius I basically went from one bed to the next. I was smart enough to only have one kid though. My son Jessie. That happened before the three girls. His mother was my first girlfriend.

Not sure what motor or motors will go on the new bike. I would like to go with AmpFlow but the 4.5HP model is too much money and they all require gear reduction. I wish someone would post. I would like to know if you guys watched my videos.

I am working on a new one as we speak with a different type of music. I don't only listen to Gangster rap I listen to other stuff. Not sure if anyone follows WWE. I know we had some Sons of anarchy fans. I really miss that show. Burn Notice was also top rate programming. My Two favorite WWE stars of all time are in the video. Big Poppa Pump and Bray Wyatt. What a team that would make. The freeze dried chicken is a favorite for all the fish except for the eels. Thanks.

The sprocket which bolts to the freewheel . I can use washers and screws to attach the Currie 9 tooth to scrap wood and grind down with electric drills then JB weld it to work. Basically my brain will accomplish the task instead of my wallet. The
24" build will benefit from gear reduction. The 20" red bike via sidewalk special is back and we will see how many miles it goes without reinstalling the motor. hope I can follow suite on other issues.

I am a genius. a big fish now nobody wants to accept. I have accomplished unbelievable things. Dual motors, using a piece of 2 by 4 to mount a motor. Custom baskets, ect. I have overcome great odds by putting motors back together and connecting things without solder most e bike builders would only dream of. thanks anyway for your posts lately.

Peace out.

Damn! You might be a "Genious" ...
I can't imagine how ... , or why, you would bolt a 9T sprocket to a freewheel?
"Sidewalk bike" still geared for 35mph+?
Any builds last for 20 miles yet?

Too harsh?
Well:
50mph and 400lb on a 20" bike designed for a 90lb kid?
"Planning ahead is more important than brakes"?
Twisted wires and electrical tape connections!
40A rig with 5A alligator clips!
No brakes!
No fuse!
No lights at night!
Riding against traffic!
Omnipresent Low Ah battery use ... to ensure poor-damaging performance?
SLA abuse!!!
"Criminally negligent" math skills?
Unreasonable fear of soldering!
Unreasonable fear of electricity!!!
etc. etc. etc.

I just checked sprocket calculator and the red bike has proper gearing. The 24V 500W motor is 2500rpm with a 20" wheel and 11T #25 motor sprocket it requires an 81T sprocket for 20mph gearing. The old 80T which was on the Currie is bolted to the spokes without a sprocket kit. Just nuts and washers. How many people have done that. Made a sprocket work without a spoke kit. Trust me it wont be the first one you will see.

The 18" bike will get the 62T #25 sprocket bolted to it and will also be geared for 20mph with dual 280W 24V motors running in series for 2100rpm to a 36V controller. I know for a fact not too many people have done that? I research this forum now that I always have a connection.

I am not bolting the Currie 9 tooth to a freewheel. That just gave me the idea as to how I am going to hold it in place to grind it down. Washers and drywall screws will secure it to a piece of scrap wood when I grind it down flush. I will then take the screws out flip it over and screw it down again and grind down the other side and leave the screws in it until the JB weld cures when I weld it to the #25 11T like I already did with the #415 11T 17mm sprocket and ran for at least 10 miles. It was the wrong sprocket but still made it work until the #415 11T 10mm one showed up in my mail box. That will take care of the gearing problem on the 24" 1,000W bike. With the 9T it will be geared for 29+ mph instead of 36+mph.

As far as brakes and truing wheels go I guess I will have to admit I am really NOT interested. Wall-Mart has tons of bikes with perfect working brakes and straight wheels for $59 to $69 Also for the mounting technique with the 2 by 4 the current piece of 2 by 4 will be used for a pattern to drill holes into a higher quality pressure treated piece. The holes will be filled with fiberglass resin, then sanded , primed and painted with waterproof paint.

Basically for less than $80 I can get a brand new 20" BMX bike. $50 for a $500W 24V motor $15 for a controller, $20 for a wheel sprocket and $5 for the 2 by 4 and nuts and bolts. and I have an e bike for about $170 + batteries. Two 10Ah SLAs are about $30 so I have a perfect running e bike for about $200. They should sell like hotcakes for $300 easily.

Basically what I am saying DA, it is a way to make a profit by simply converting new or excellent running bikes to e bikes. Another thing that makes it work is the fact that six months down the road if I do need the brakes replaced or I need the rim straightened it will only take four bolts to uninstall the motor and a few plugs unplugged to uninstall the controller as it mounts to the 2 by 4 also. the wheel sprocket is also four bolts so it can easily be converted back to a regular bike in less than an hour as most bike shops dont work on e bikes.

Oh and yea I said all that genius and big fish stuff to get you to post and it worked. I am surprised Sunder and Dan did not post also. :D I missed you guys and just wanted to hear from you. Hopefully they will post later. I want to take some cans back with the red bike to see how it holds up. I got to get going before it gets too dark. Thanks.

Weird!! Some guy that speaks with an accent called me on my landline or Time Warner phone informing me that someone is hacking into my desktop! I will need to run that Malware program you told me about. Most likely it is a scam for me to buy something. Please let me know.
