I charged them to 4.2V a little over three weeks ago at the other place. The Schwinn is still hooked up with alligator clips.
I was going to solder some bullets but did not get a chance since I moved.
Also I have not found my pre hook up cable as well as the Mega charger you sent. I dont think anyone would steal it as nobody I know is even smart enough to use it. I will look for it tomorrow. I could probably go about two miles maybe with them. I dont think downtown will happen though. They would make it down ok but probably not back as it is mostly uphill.
I can run the SLAs for downtown runs. The steep hill is only about three and a half blocks or so or less than a quarter mile, then there is a gradual incline. DA would probably state otherwise but I dont see how one short fairly steep hill would kill the SLA batteries with a little pedal assist. Also 10 to 12mph on the flat should be less than 1C discharge.
The two original SLAs that came with the Currie were abused relentlessly from the time they were broke in and ran until totally dead three times right up till the end of the 6 months they survived running constantly at full throttle and even pulling large grocery carts full of scrap metal.
10mph on flat and pedal assist on moderate hills, four 10Ah SLAs should last two years. I should get about 200 50% charges at least as I know that 48V@10AH doing less than 5 mile runs (no full throttle) except for up hill should be about 50% or less capacity. Utilizing the old LiPo packs for short runs up to two miles should give me a years to 18 months worth of battery life for the Schwinn with no problem.
Full throttle is dangerous for the Schwinn anyway as it is a front hub motor. 10 to 12 mph on flat and 15 to 18 on slight decline I can live with for now. When I get the other 10.0 6S pack I will have a 30 mph capable bike in the 24" Huffy bike with the 20" wheel and 65T spoke kit and the 24" front wheel I found today out in the garage.
That is about as ambitious as I am going to get this summer I think as I would like to fix up my car for the fall and winter for when it is too cold and too much snow to ride an e bike. Thanks again for posting.
