new eZip motor

that is what I hit the pothole from hell with at about 23 mph with the Diamond Back. It only works at about full throttle. Was one in toolbox looked just like it. It is notorious as someone posted that word describing it here awhile ago. I'm about $50 in the hole on that.

Also why I don't ride the Diamond Back much. I traded it to Doug after that and built that red bike. I got the Diamond Back for the hub motor however riding it the front feels a little lose, treacherous would be a way to describe it. I would not want to repeat that pot hole from hell again as the chances would be great that something would separate now.

I prefer riding the Schwinn anyway as it is my best bike. Why I get $500 offers on it. I really don't want to sell it though. I will be soldering the new 10.0 LiPo packs for bullets soon and running 44V with the Diamondback and the Schwinn. need to get a speedo next month which is detachable and wireless so I can run it on each bike + the 48V Huffy at 36V and 750W. We will do videos riding the same flat stretches and up hills with the speedo in the videos and can compare performance of each.

That is if I can get away from the pirate game long enough. thanks.

Damn LC ...
You really make me appreciate the effort I put into my battery builds!

  • Large packs with fully tested and matched banks:
  • Weigh less than 10 lb
  • Can run for hours at 15mph
  • Never need balancing
  • Bulk discharge and recharge to the same equal bank voltages
  • Last for years with basic monitoring and little to no maintenance

I have been additionally charging banks 1 & 2 slightly every several dozen monitored cycles to compensate for occasional use of LED Voltage monitor-Low voltage alarm
New 7s LCD voltage monitor - fuel gauge should eliminate even this occasional "touch-up"

I do have 2 8s iMax balance chargers but have not used since my Spring prep annual Balance charge.

I have seen my pack with a BMS hit 4.25v and then started to balance them down. 4.24 isn't not dangerous, unless the cells are damaged.

Thanks Dan for telling me that as I did not know. It looks like they will be fine. Next time though when I hook up the balancer to balance them I will need to zip tie the balancer to the back of the fan in the window on the front porch I use to solder.

Which I plan on doing today really soon as I called my doctor and got that straightened out and don't have to go downtown as City Hall closed early. Got a e mail to reschedule.

plus it is not really that hot out today, Therefore I am out of excuses so as soon as I upgrade my harbor to level 18 on the game it is solder time.

Later I will be able to charge those new packs. :D thanks.

As usual I am screwed. The blue shrink tube on there wont slide over the solder joint and the large blue is obviouslly too big so now I have to go out of my way to find a place that has the shrink tubing I need.

The exact reason why I don't work on e bikes much anymore.

Never have the right part or tool like that freewheel I need to put the 500W motor back on the 20" bike. :x thanks.

LC. out.

So make the solder joint smaller than the insulation.
You need more heat to get a good solder joint. Big tip on a 40 watt is normally fine. get rid of the rough wires that are standing above the others and you can stretch the shrink to go over it.
So why change the wire?

you need to try the other charger, to see if it's the battery or the charger.

If you set the balancers on there side or the display down instead of up the heat from the resistors won't black out the display.

Got a ride to get the shrink tubes.

Also picked that guy up as the tank was clean when I moved in two months ago. It is a pain in the butt to clean the algae especially with the tank high up where it is now.
It set me back about $40 but is a welcome member of the household. I think the eels think it is one of them. He is already earning his keep as you can see him at work.

The first 10.0 LiPo is finished. Why 4 mm bullets. Because I have lots and more coming. easy to solder to the controller wires and make a series cable. I wont have to order special plugs and wait forever for them to be shipped.

Looks perfectly balanced and took all of about 83 min. one down and one to go. I will do that tomorrow. Thanks for posting.

The bullets are soldered on the other pack and it is in a cash box charging. If all goes well and it looks like the other 10.0 pack on the balancer I will be 44V capable.
I am already 44V capable with Dan's packs but plan to keep them for round trips < 5 miles and the new packs after three < 5 mile runs I will be able to run them up to 10 miles easily. I will need to pick up more solder but then can solder bullets to the wires coming from the controller and make a series cable. Thanks.

7/10 1:20 am

Kind of odd how the first pack I balanced charged read full an about 93 min. It was higher to start though at about 3.9V where the other pack was probably on the shelf longer and was about 3.8V each cell. Anyway the 3.8V pack took 4 hours and the last two charging amps were at 0 amps.
When I took it off three of the cells were at 4.2V but not over and the other four all at 3.19. After about 20 min on the balancer they all read 3.19 which is what the other pack is. I am 44V ready but would like an answer to that. Thanks.

I think that is the last package for now. Everything is in. I took the motor off the 24" huffy and got new bolts to reinstall.

Also the 60T is on the wheel and the 56T is off.

I activated my new bank card but have no money to order a freewheel sprocket for the 80T #25.

I am broke and they are taking 110 out of my disability to pay for medicare part b.

I will only be getting 710 a month instead of 832 and my rent is 650. The internet will get turned off soon as after paying for electric there was no money to pay for internet. :x Thanks for posting.

peace out.

Internet - Where to get it?

To get more money - Get a job, Do something. Is there anything you enjoy doing?

Just skimmed that thread Marty. One piece of advice, its fine to do the borrowing, just don't be the one to do the lending.

You might not care about security, and that's fair enough. Just be aware if your "guest" downloads child porn on your connection, expect a 3 month wait in a holding cell until computer forensics gets around to proving you didn't do it. Its happened before. Multiple times on multiple countries.

I got the bill and not due until next month but is for two months and a little over $200.

I cant work on the books as I would lose my disability. Also cant afford to pay $200 for internet plus $200 for electricity and $650 for rent.

As far as three months in a holding cell,. it could be more but NOT for illegal underage porn. I am looking to break into a house or mug someone or steal some bikes and sell them if I cant find a job off the books. I am not losing my internet connection nor am I going without power in the middle of the hot summer with no AC. Also am not moving again. Moving is a nightmare and am NOT doing it.

Only other thing I can think of is something online. Is there any way to make some money on the internet. I have heard of it but am not sure. Does anyone have any advice. Please let me know and thanks for posting.

Lc, if you look, there are jobs that you can do on the books. You can make maybe more a month than you are getting. I know it's not a simple thing but it does exist.
I could make 1700 a month and still get my benefits. I have a cousin that has a heart condition and he made 1500 a month without a problem. One kid I met was blind like me and he worked at a hotel doing clean up for banquets. You might ask the guy downtown that helped you get your benefits.

I know, don't wanna work no more!
Dan

Come on LC. Can't believe you're thinking about going down the path of crime again.

Also can't believe that Internet costs $200 (Marty's link was suggesting that DSL in America is $25/month), or electricity is that much (Dude, I run an electric car along with full family home and a meat aging fridge for ~120 a month - and that's considered a high electricity bill around these parts).

I guess if you had learned anything in the past two years this thread had been running, you could be building and selling high quality, cheap and reliable electric bikes that everyone would be wanting. Instead, you have a house full of junkers that might or might not work for a hobby, but aren't safe or reliable enough to sell.

I don't know what the welfare system is like over there, but if doing work proves you aren't disabled, your choices are to cut costs, or run a minor side business of some sort. Was going to suggest that you learn home brewing to cut the cost of drinking and sell off any excess for a few extra bucks, but knowing you, this might happen:

Never thought about that. Thanks for giving me one more thing to worry about.

Still working on my dream of free internet for everyone everywhere. TV and radio is free. Internet should be the same.

Albany is about the same weather as Buffalo. The wife and I have no air conditioning and we are happy. Use a window fan to blow air out at night, exhaust. Open them windows and enjoy the weather. Ceiling and oscillating fans are cool. Fans use less electricity then AC. To save money on electric turn stuff off.

Getting a job is a bit like looking for a girl friend. If you see a girl outside and you want to have sex with her. Should you email her a resume? NO.. go outside and talk to her. Getting a job is the same. Go outside and sell yourself.

Bedsides building electric bicycles, is there anything that you are good at? Provide a service? Offer to put electric motors on bicycles. Post a add on CraigsList. It's free. Got some stuff that you don't want? Sell it. Lots of money to be made by garbage picking. Them 5¢ bottles and cans add up. Start a internet provider service. I can picture a tower transmitter on your roof and free internet for all your neighbors. Make money by installing internet receiver antennas. Her is a picture of my antenna. Works perfectly. For TV I got a $20 antenna that don't work too good. Big TV antenna on the roof would be a lot better.
file.php

Finding the internet is a bit like getting a job or a girlfriend. Go outside with a phone, tablet, or lap top and find it.

You know LC, maybe a bounder at a bar! You know they say the economy is much better and the unemployment rate is way down. Gotta be a job you can handle out there.

This kid I mentioned has been on disability all his adult life. He gets his monthly paycheck from the government and can and has worked and made more money a month than his SS check. Best part is he can keep both.

Maybe you need to sell the cars you don't use. Get rid of them before they are total trash from sitting. As Marty said, sell what ever you don't need or want on CL. A few bucks here and there helps. I know, been there done that.

Dan

Yea. I may be selling the car for $500 but am keeping the van. It is a 2005 with only 115k on it.

Hopefully this guy I know will buy the car. I heard he is interested.

Also I got a letter from social security stating the state of NY will be paying my Medicare part b so I will be getting $832 next month instead of $712.

I guess they had to review my case and decided favorable on my behalf. I was really glad to see that today so there is hope. Thanks for posting.

Hopefully I will get around to working on the e bikes tomorrow. I need to solder the bullets for the Diamond Back and finish the wood box on the back with a lid and hinges and a small padlock plus raise the seat for better pedal power.

that and reinstall the motor on the 24" Huffy. Thanks again.

Installing motors is something I put off and procrastinate at a lot.

It always comes with it's share of cursing , bitching and often throwing things around not to mention sweating and sometimes even cutting myself or pinching my fingers and I usually end up almost throwing the bike thru a window or against a wall.

It was not the worse and no blood was spilled or damage done but some cursing defiantly took place as well as some sweating.

As you can see the gearing is slightly better than it was before. It is geared for 32.5 mph instead of 35 mph by going from a 56T spoke sprocket to a 60T.

I am going to look for the old video I did when it was running before with the 56T and I think 48V SLA but not totally sure. I am hoping as 13.3 * 4 = 53.2V and 12.8 * 4 = 51.2V where with 44V LiPo 4.1 * 12 = 49.2V and 3.8 * 12 = 45.6V.

It is not a huge difference but combined with the slightly larger wheel sprocket could make a noticeable difference in gearing.

Those videos were made awhile ago when the bike was running. I could not get the chain to fit with the old metal motor brackets.

The 1 by 1s or wood used for this mount will be replacing the two by four I used for the motor on the handlebars' used on the 20" build.

However I will need a freewheel as if I had a freewheel it would already have been done.

If the #25 chain and 80T #25 sprocket wont work I will be ordering 8 mm chain and sprockets. I miss my 500W 20" builds using 6s LiPo. So simple to run and charge.

36V SLA be a nightmare and 44V takes longer to charge. Thanks.

Been a bit quiet here lately, LC?

I've been flying around a lot, and doing 8am to 11pm days at conferences - at least it's mostly entertaining business partners.

I'm rebuilding my eBike this weekend - Found out my older son has been accepted in a local kindergarten, but my younger son is too young - So now I have to drop the younger son using the bike, while my wife drops the older son off using the car.

With an extra 12kg on the bike, I've decided to drop the voltage and top speed by 25%, and raise the amps by 30% to compensate - better hill climbing ability with less weight.

This is why I love hub motors with programmable controllers - Its so easy to maintain flexibility. You'd have to change the gearing, right?

Hi Sunder> It has been very quiet, unless your reading the post on Trump. These guys are funnier than LC could ever be.
LC did say he was losing his internet and we might not hear from him much or at all.

I liked raising the voltage and lowering the amps. About the same power but more miles per gallon(ah).
Saving weight does help too.

Yeah, I remember those long days. Don't really miss them but they did have their merits.

Dan

As the Hub Motor Turns and the LiPo Fire Burns. already have all the parts.

the guy who wanted to buy the Schwinn with the hub motor is My wife's son. John. he did not give me $500 for the Schwinn so I told him I need it and got a Polaris downstairs my friend downtown gave me.(pedal bike) I told him he could order a 24V 500W motor for the back. I think DA said rear was safer. I need to start riding again as I will need cargo for hauling stuff.

I maybe lose interest a little for a bit but have a lot of LiPo batteries. Basically I have all the parts I need right now. Thinking about leaving the 48V controller on the 24" bike but cutting the plugs and putting bullets on the wires for motor and controller. They sell colored rolls of electrical tape with blue and yellow for the motor and red and black for power.

I have the cash box with the two brand new 10Ah SLAs all ready to go. I can hook up bullets to the motor wires also.
The thumb throttle stays hooked to the controller. Don't need bullets.

The variable controller with the pot can get wires with plugs and colored tape also for the motor and power wires. It will allow me to easily switch back from 24 to 48V operation with only a pre hook up cable. However if I wanted to I could lose a lot of bullets by going to that LiPo switch I already own and found and it would allow me to switch from 24 to 48v on board and as long as I have both cash boxes on board. the new 6S - 8Ah packs in parallel and the brand new 6S - 10Ah packs in series. I am going to calculator now to see how gearing will be at 6S Lipo.

pictures are the never used 10.0 6S packs. The 16Ah or parallel 8.0 packs be out on the porch ready to go also. We already established that with the 60T spoke sprocket instead of the 56T gearing improved for the 1,000W 3,000 rpm motor from 35 mph to 32.5 mph. Now we will see the gearing at 24V and 1,500 rpm.

As I suspected the gearing will be perfect at 16 mph and 500W for the 20" wheel with that gear ratio. I think that it should chug up the hills good and at 1/2 the rated motor power it could pull a few amps but got 80 amp fuses. Also once maximum speed of 16 mph is achieved on the flat I will have the option of turning the switch to the right and pressing the thumb throttle to effectively double my speed or at least hit 29 mph.

The motor and 48V controller are already installed. For now I think I will just hook up the variable controller with the pot and run my 16Ah 6S pack for the 24" build. I want to run the Schwinn with the new 10.0 6S packs and the cash box with dan's old packs can go on the back of the Diamondback. It sounds like a good project for tomorrow. Thanks guys for posting. I just had to take a little break was all. Thinking about voting for trump.

I am downtown at the library with the Schwinn and the old LiPos.

Had to go to city hall today.

Heading to Doug's house. He has a Dimond Back 26" black bike. Worth $100 at least used. I may get it for $10.

I also got a 26" Polaris switchback back at the house my friend Dave downtown gave me last week. Doug wants to trade for it but it is duel suspension.

I don't want to trade. $10 or no deal.

Either bike should fit the rear wheel from the Currie for a chain drive. I would like to get a 8 mm wheel sprocket that screws on where the freewheel goes because they make an 8 mm dual D bore 10 tooth I believe and either a 72 or 74 tooth wheel sprocket for a gear ratio which will work for either of Unite motors I have.

I should have the 24" bike with the 1,000W 48V unite motor working this week but want to run it at 22.2V for my 16AH 6S pack.

I will use the new 10.0 6S packs for the Schwinn and the old LiPos I am running now will mount on the back of the Blue 20" Dimond Back with the 48V 800W hub motor.

For new builds one will be a 26" bike either the black bike or the dual suspension Polaris with the 800W 36V unite motor and the second will be a 20" bike with the
24V 500W Unite motor mounted to the front handlebars. Thanks for posting.
