Hi

Whilst loving the videos of the CREE bike lights people have been posting I have been looking for a nice cheap entry in to the super bright torch market and I found this on Ebay, its a CREE led torch with a nice little bracket so you can fit it on to your bars, gonna get me a lipo cell and charger for it next just running it on normal CR123 for now, its sooooo bright you cant even look at it, I will post a night time picture to see how it compares to my Halogen.

Its a real quality piece of kit for the money, I got it for 19.99, great value IMHO.

Ebayers picture of how it looks on their bike, cant verify if it is genuine but it looks so

I wonder if any of these are similar enough to be worth it:

Cuz it's free shipping. ;)

I put a 3 watt maglite led on my bike for $20.00. It uses three aa batteries in series which are cheaper to replace than those camera batteries. I don't know if it's as bright as that but its a lot brighter than my cateye led light which is supposed to be over 500 lumens. Two would be adequate for high speed use I think.

I looked up my cateye 530 and it says 7,000 candle power. I have no idea how many lumens that is but probably a lot less than 500 more like 100 or so. I think the newer generation led flashlights are powerful enough for most of us. My new maglite is the brightest flashlight I have ever seen besides a spotlight. And the lens is wonderfull, good spread and projection without any circles or dark spots or overly bright spots.

Does this help?

I bought mine from www.dealextreme.com, heaps of options. Too many to choose from really, but ou can pick if it had different modes, ie. High, med, low, flash. Or just a single on/off full power.

I originally had two of these 250 lumen flashlights probably similar to what you got, which I ended up running from a DC-DC converter off my main pack.
UltraFire WF-501B Cree R2-WC 250-Lumun LED Flashlight Black $13.35 each delivered.

I prefer these mounts, as they were a bit more secure:
Universal Adjustable Bicycle Mount for Flashlights (2cm~4cm Diameter) $2.46 delivered

But you can buy your mount type for $1.80 delivered, here.

If you want more light ~900 lumens, go for the Cree MC-Es about $35, or a magicshine which I now run for $77 with batteries , or $45 light head only.

Or if that isn't enough, here is the 1400 lumen option, for about $120 delivered.

Hope this helps those looking for lights. :D

Hey Adrian

Thanks for that m8, its bright! tested it last night although it was not a dark night? need to go out on a really dark night and take my camera, I dont intend to run it off the camera batteries, i got them in case the light was no good, didnt want to splash out on a A123 cell and charger if it wasnt bright enough, I may run it off my dc-dc converter however I dont ride much at night for any length of time to I will most likely leave it as it is.

Just ordered these today:
UniqueFire X8 Cree XP-G R5 5-Mode 300 Lumens Memory LED Flashlight (1*18650) $32.49 x 3
http://www.dinodirect.com/uniquefire-x8-cree-xp-g-r5-5-mode-300lumens-memory-led-flashlight.html

Last January I tried to order the Ultrafire version from DealExtreme, and though the website stated they were in stock I could not get them to ship it; delay after delay – after 3 months I cancelled the order :x

The UniqueFire is slightly updated and has a better reflector.

My Plan is to set one up as a thrower, one as wide-beam (I have a different reflector for that), and one as a flasher. Not sure yet which way I shall mount them; depends if I get a faring, modify a Harley-Davidson headlamp, or conjure up something new. Anyway – lights are ordered, and this should assuage attacks by ZOMBIES which infest our woods

The best place to get info on flashlights and all types of batteries is candlepowerforums.com.Take it from a long time flashaholic!

Last week I received Qty-3 of the UniqueFire X8 Cree XP-G R5 from Dino Direct. I had my stuff within a week from ordering. It arrived without damage. It was exactly what I ordered. The quality appears to be quite good 8)

In the image below, the reflector in the top-right is the only part of the order from DealExtreme that I received, and unfortunately it is designed for the UltraFire and therefore is not compatible with the UniqueFire bezel to the left

However I haven’t tested it just yet. The unit came without batteries or charger (with is fine), but I hope to integrate it soon into my system. At 1A each, there’s no way I’m going to tap off the Controller PS, so I’ll have to jury-rig some other solution.

Cheers, KF
