Hi all,

I'm new here but I read a lot of posts so thanks all for inspirations that you give me.

I saw that the hard part of building one e-board is the mechanical part. So I decided to build a kit. Now I received first order of parts from china and I'm going to start building some kits for me and my friends.

I want to know for the guys from Europe are they found this nice and are they interested of kit like :
1. Truck with welded motor mound - all from aluminium.
mounting will be for 50x5 motors because with several test I notice that reasonable prices battery pack is 6s and for 6s 5065 and 5055 is best option with KV around 270-400KV
Motor will stay as high as possible and as near as truck as possible to prevent any impacts
2. 2 or 4 wheels 76mm 78A (or 83mm 78A) with pre-mounded pulley(s) plus bearings.
3. Belt(s)
4. Bolts.
5. Custom programmed ESC controlers for 7S 80A with Cooling fan.
6. Motor pulley + hex nut and hex tool

so what You need to choose and add to the kit is:
1. motor(s) as you like (in order to attach the motor pulley to the shaft of your motor you have to make a little D shape on the shaft with key-file) this is the only mechanical part for you :)
(6mm and 8mm shaft are supported :)
2. 6s charger
3. 6s battery (Li-po or LifePo4)
4. Remote controller (pistol) - because I think the handed throttle is the best way.

Let me know what do you think about that.

I made little spreadsheet calculator .. where you can put your desired parameters:

Battery pack
Motor KV
desired max speed

and see the results :

Gear ratio
Pulley pairs

I hope you found this useful for you :)

Preloaded data is my balanced option for e-longboard.

here is my first try :)

file.php

I made motor mount with slots in order to try different gear ratios - so for me the best results give 12 : 34

So now I'm going to try with fixed motor mount model (without slots) and also motor will be much closer to the wheels .. so obeying bumps will be much safer ;)

I use plane ESC with BEC, reflashed with custom firmware in order to have regenerative breaking (based on atmega8)
Manually re-solder all FETTS for better heat conductivity and and add FAN to the heat stick.

As a result I have CAR ESC 7S 80A esc for 20$ ;)

Great job... were you able to generate a separate brake function (not drag brake) with this esc? If so that rocks!

I think I seen before some airplane escs use the same atmega as car escs. So they flash the airplane escs with a car one :)

Yes sure, just like expensive car ESC .. I know for sure that this DIY ESC is not an option for fast inrunner motors but is fine for outrunners :)
All depends of speed of ESC components - CPU, FETT drivers and the FETTs.

Of course I smoked several ESC - so I bought a lot of spare FETTs and FETT drivers just to repair smoked IC, but after few tune-ups things got better.

When I made next portion of ESC I'll try to make a guide for you guys :)

would rock if you chose an 8s ESC for the tutorial.. not just for the addded power, but cause i have tons of 4s, and 6s but no 3s..

I've contacted favorite in regards to their Hv plane esc and they have flashed 2x with their car firmware. 12s. 120a with brakes and all the normal car esc options.

I'm impressed with their 120a 6s car esc so I hope their plane one suits just as well.
Car one is totally waterproof and $56

Who's "favorite"?

Does this mean you could take a cheap ESC and flash it with another software and it will work the same? ie. alien software?

Yeah, they're car one is real good. I have quite a few and Austin has tested it out and he likes them. They are limited to only 6S.

The airplane one they have is a 12S 120A Airplane ESC but they also mentioned they can flash it with a car ESC. Although, it is OPTO esc so you will need to buy a separate UBEC.

Unfortunately, the price wasn't what I wanted and is a little two expensive compared to the ones I am currently getting. Can't wait for until we can all use Vedder's ESC however.

Favourite is a brand. I sell it on my website for $60 - http://diyelectricskateboard.com/product/single-motor-120a-6s-esc/.

@BShady - I believe, SimonK is one of the guys who originally started flashing Atmels. All chinese ESCs (specific, would have to check) all have atmel ESCs. Depending, on the ESC you could take a 12S Airplane/Boat ESC and reflash it to Car ESC. In the end though the price will be about the same.

https://github.com/sim-/tgy You would have to do quite a bit of work though as most of the time they are used for airplanes and such. Spent a few minutes check to see if I could find anything on car but not yet.

So where do we get one of these 12s escs...
Would love to flash one just to say I did it....

Thanks guy...
Will contact them see what they say.

Thnaks torqueboards, that exactly what I done about reflashing firmware.

Of course you have to match hardware to software .. but basically I used SimonK sources. I use ESC with FETTs limited to 30V so if someone needs 12S, some airplane ESC for 12S could be converted it it is based on Atmega8 CPU. but for expensive ESC, manufactures prefer faster 8051.

OK... :(

Im assuming the 12s hv airplane esc (sentilion lookalike) is one of those with the 8051...

Hobbyking has $65 HV boat ESC. Irbil I wana give that a shot. you think it will work?

assuming you mean this one..
https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__8945__Turnigy_Marine_80A_HV_Brushless_Boat_ESC.html

Nope it overheats after about 5 minutes at reagular gearings.. might have to gear it 3.5:1, and weigh under 140 or so lbs. Tries it at 10s and 8s...Unfortunately the brake feature is a typo.. the manual that comes with the unit shows no brake other than dynamic braking, which adds to the suck... so nope no dice there...

That's the one. Did you try changing out the heatsink to a regular heatsink?

I barely use my brake an I plan on useing this for off-road where I never us my brakes.

There is a whole topic about that esc. I use a 90a one on 4s and with 50mm motor on a scooter with 12/62 gearing iirc on 8 inch wheels and it takes a 80kg rider up hills, albeit with decreased speed. So I had good experience with it, or at least not smoked it yet. Just make sure to get the right programming card and read the right manual for the startup routine, there are wrong ones around even at HK.

Edit: Forget what I wrote, should have looked at the link first, lol. Was referring to the 6s hk boat esc.

will try to change the heatsink, although it seems embeded... I it would definitly rock as a 12s alternative... even without the brakes..
will give it a try...

furp.. it does not smoke it goes into low power mode, rolling at a full 8kph...LOL other than that it runs nicely

Hm now that you say it, I think mine does the same when stressed and on a not fully charged battery. I always blamed it on the 4s and hoped it would run better on 6s. Well, at least neighbours kids have fun with it then..
