Hi everyone,

I had a few cells in my Ping 48v20ah pack get puffy and Ping graciously offered to repair it for me. Does anyone know what the most cost effective and safe way to ship my pack to China? I've never shipped overseas,.. i'd imagine it'd be very expensive. Any help would be appreciated.

thanks,

Paul

Are you capable of splitting it in half? It might be cheaper to ship in two separate boxes.

Ask for help from someone in your area. It's not too bad to do the repair yourself. It will probably cost $200 in round trip mailing costs.

yes, you can do it yourself, even though ping's people will do a better job, it costs a fortune to ship it back and forth.

why are the cells puffy? did you leave it to rot for a long time? have you measured the cell voltages? tried to charge/discharge?

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the advice. I figured the shipping costs would be very high. I guess I'll attempt to do it myself... unless I can find someone in the Chicago area to do it for me. Who would I take it to? I don't suppose there is a category for Battery Pack Repair in the Yellowpages.

omg! does ne1 use yello pages ne-mor?!

Are there any e-bike dealers in the area? Someone there might be savvy.

There seems to be an electric vehicle association chapter in Chicago. (Fox Valley?) -- http://fveaa.org/
There is probably at least one person there who could do it.
(Here is the national organization. http://www.eaaev.org/index.html)

You could search for electrical shops that specialize in batteries but it would probably be more expensive than letting the good folks at Ping do the job under warranty.
