So, who's hiding a project?

Hey Thud,

Pics are in
i will post as soon as i get back from work today - oh what a day!!!

Hey D,

I think we need one more teaser on these pics, I'm not sure there is enough mystery surrounding them.

I am, i am ... LOL

I've kept the project phots in the dark, I've just got my 24 mosfet controller working for my 144v build with a x5306; i'm presently in the midest of battery testing, the battery pack should be finished soon :)

Is that a 26" front ? ( looks/works better with 24 ! )

haha .. i know man ... that will be the next upgrade .. i've just been holding it of till i get other things sorted...

Yeah, it can only help the cause. I'm sure others can get value from the pics. I get most of my ideas from reading and looking at stuff on this forum.

Here's more naked pictures of the planetary drive-train. I had to take it apart after I upgraded to a higher torque & speedier motor (Super BMC 750W) and the power caused the one way bearing (clutch) got stuck and not freewheeling for some reason. I am trying to re-lube it right now. :)

(thud is drumming fingers on desk.......)
good thing I am not a doctor, I am loseing patients :p

i think maybe jozzer is hiding a leeeeetle project............................

Hi,

I have a project on the go...

and there's been ups and downs which have appeared on this thread:

http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=12832

and ended up with a contribution to this thread:

http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=13292

but went on with this one:

http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=15165

and there you go. It's winter here and February is when things will hopefully get going inside. I'm waiting for Zinc solder and flux to do the batteries. I'm waiting for a 24 inch rear wheel to replace the NuVinci set-up and I'll have to gear things up and see.

Still, my mind goes on. I think I'll put the Magic pie on my other GM front drive bike. I did a dual drive/dual controller/dual throttle before and it was fun. Lots of torque and doing donuts on wet grass was very exciting, getting the rear wheel to slide and using the front wheel to keep the bike going upright. It was pretty good going uphill on difficult trails in the woods (use front wheel, use rear wheel, use both wheels...).

Anyway, I'm surprised by the number of projects on this thread that use a Y-frame. People are slowly getting the idea that suspensions are a must at higher speeds. For those of you that use Y-frame, look at how I've set up the batteries. It's complicated but they're at the right place.

That's that for now.

Hi Matt,

You posted this on the wrong thread:

Astro just emailed me and told me two motors shipped today and 6 more are due to ship by the weekend. They seems to be really pushing on this order. That is good, because I have 4 very custom motors ordered, myself and they are not being built until these get done. :)
Matt
It should be here in your "who's hiding a project?" thread

With more details of course :p :)

Hmm, well, let's just say it is worth well over $10,000. It is nearly 40kw peak (28kw continuous), 2kwh of lipo, uses crazy brakes, custom rims, radically modified frame, TONS of powder coating, a bunch of machining (both CNC and manual machining), a few TIG welded aluminum enclosures, and more planning as well as labor hours than any previous project I have done.

I am reaching for the pinnacle of E-bike badness with this project. I am also pushing for daily rideable reliability. I do not want an unreliable dragster. This will be like a ZR1. It will be world-class fast, awesome handling, brakes to die for, long range (60 to 70 miles if ridden nice), and reliability while looking absolutely stunning. :D

I hope to have some pictures soon.

I am torn between running a build thread, or revealing it all at once. A build thread seems to drag on too long and reveals private stuff too soon. But, with a build thread, I can get input on the project.

I will probably start a build thread when I am about 1/2 way through. After all, it would be embarrassing to run a long build thread only to find out the project has some fatal flaw and cannot be finished.

I doubt that will happen, though............

Matt

ahhh i see Matt, create a thread to eeek out whats going on generally, but remain the man behind the curtain, shame on you wizard

Hey, what do you expect? I want to know what everyone else is doing before I reveal my pride and joy project bike. :D

I will readily admit I had an agenda when I started this thread.

I do not believe in following the yellow brick road. I prefer PAVING the yellow brick road. That being said, I always like to know what road others are following............

Hi Matt,

Mind providing a few more details on the motors?

3280's?

Do future/virtual projects count? I am still collecting parts as I get the money. I am about to order my frameset. I have been speaking with the guy at brooklynmachineworks.com and have decided on the racelink for my next bike because of its jackshaft.
bmw_original.jpg
I bought a 8150 and geared hub but am too afraid of reliability issues, so think I will do a single speed for now. Later I want to get two 8150s with delta/wye switching, but will have to wait for the funds (didn't have the money during your last group astro buy). The single motor setup I will start with is straight forward. I'll use my 8150 to turn a pulley on the jack-shaft and a large rear sprocket with chain for the secondary. I am psyched about the dual setup after seeing your kart though. I still want to use a belt for the primary to cut down on the noise so I am thinking about using separate belt primary drives, and a chain second and third after that. So two jack-shafts, the original and one I will add in front of the motors. Here is a 5 second rendering. The motors are flipped so one has the primary belt on the left, and one on the right. I am thinking of sticking with the 8150s but may go down to a smaller motor based on how powerful the single is. Based on your 4kw power handling estimate from another thread, I should be able to get 8kw out of these two motors. :)

Maybe two months or so and I will have everything to start. -David

interesting frame,

$3500

damcard,

This kind of frame is definitely the way to go. I was thinking along similar lines. I also looked at the Purgatory Bike frames but they needed more work to adapt.

very interesting frame and agree with miles, if you can get something that already has its susoension sorted in relation to chain growth etc thats half the battle.
the only thing bettr would be custom frames with both linkage and battery storage solutions sorted but being as we're not showing all yet ssshhhhhhhhh

yes I'm also hiding a project (or two). I'm trying to resist building in parallel. My initial build will be using
a steel frame full suspension Raleigh mountain bike I picked up last year. I'm in the process of stripping
it down and upgrading most of the components.

The plan is to use a SRAM dual drive hub with Luke/Thuds broached WI freewheels and Matt's drive
and an Astro. Once I get my webcam to act as a camera I might be able to upload some initial pics..

I never got a quote from him, but he is willing to sell just the rear assembly from the frameset. So, you would only have to build the front triangle. I was originally going to do that because I wanted to build a cruiser. I decided to hold out till I can afford the whole frameset though so I can get on the road right away. After that I can experiment with some different front triangles for different battery/motor combination. He was very interested in electric bikes and I gave him a bunch of links to this forum. He quoted me $3200 for the frameset. I know it is pricey, but going 45 mph my cost concern will quickly diminish.

Nice choice. Do you know the approximate prices for the SR6 and SR8 which have a similar geometry? What are the advantages of the Racelink other than 9" travel rather than 6" or 8"?

If you can fit 2 freewheels on the jackshaft, one for the motor driven sprocket and one for the pedal driven sprocket you will have the advantages of the SRAM with dual FW's but with the flexibility to use any rear hub.
