Xenforo conversion thread ( ES 2.0 )

I find my self visiting sub-forum pages and having to take a few moments to find the latest posts beyond the sticky posts. While my color choice is a shambles, perhaps something like this could be added to help the sticky posts stand out:

CSS:
.structItemContainer-group--sticky .node--depth2:nth-child(even),
.structItemContainer-group--sticky .structItem.structItem--thread:nth-child(even) {
  background-color: #b1d7eb;
}

.structItemContainer-group--sticky .node--depth2:nth-child(odd),
.structItemContainer-group--sticky .structItem.structItem--thread:nth-child(odd) {
  background-color: #c0e4f2;
}

From a quite new iPad: after attaching a photo below what text I have written for a new post I cannot get the cursor to fix [become visible] below the just inserted photo so as to continue writing text below the photo.

Oof, i'm sorry about this.
The dev team here runs Mac, Windows, and Linux, but we don't test on iPad.
Looking at the xenforo forum, i see that the version we're running has a known editor -> iPad issue.

At some point this month we'll update the board software and hopefully this is banished.

Sorry if I am missing something totally obvious, but is there a way to preview a post before hitting Post reply?

It's possible to enable this feature but i tried it and the preview looked exactly like the output. ( exception i know of: the quotes look different )
Therefore it seems like yet another superfluous xenforo feature..

If you notice significant discrepancies in the editor view vs the post itself, point them out!

I agree, will tackle this when the time comes

This isn't likely something that can be changed, but XF does not use fixed "labels" for various things like avatars, etc, so it isn't possible for me to block them (there are numerous ones I really don't want to see ever, among other reasons I need to block them) wiht any form of addon, etc in the browser. If I block them on one page, not only do they just show up again in other pages, or even the same page loaded again later on, then because XF sometimes reuses the same element number on something completely different on some other page (i guess they are randomly assigned), it makes other parts of various pages disappear--anything from thread titles to links to posts, etc.

If it is possible to add an option to turn off all avatars in the UCP (per user, under user control), that would be helpful. If so, I would also like it to turn off the very annoying and distracting color blocks with letters in them too.

If it's useful in any way this is a list of some of the elements / addresses I tried to block (all avatars).

Why is there an upvote button on some threads and not on others?

Read the stickied thread on the 'ebike troubleshooting' section for more info.

Getting stuff done wise...
ES is on the schedule for next week and it should be a tag team operation between me and the other member of the dev team.

High priority items will be processing past image/youtube problems & getting the image optimizer running again
After priority is design issues, then functionality issues

PS!
I want to thank you for providing such good and constructive feedback. :es:

I had these issues before the upgrade to a degree also, but now it seems worse, and I am not getting email notifications for heaps of threads I've subscribed to. Case in point was the Stealth owners thread which had several pages of posts before I noticed.
Would be great if we could sort out notifications.

Cheers

I have adjusted some email settings that may improve this for ya.

If you had set some threads to 'watched' or 'subscribed' on the previous forum, i'd check to see if the setting is still there if you haven't... Possibly this is something lost in the conversion... but i see no reason why it shouldn't work going forward.

Well if it means anything, when I login to the forum I still see the bell notification, however I am pretty sure I never received emails for them.
Something I would love to see is a kind of reminder email where if you haven't checked in on a forum you are subscribed to for some time and it has new posts, you receive another reminder email. Is that a thing?

Cheers

Xenforo has that, but i have it turned off so that it doesn't spam people incessantly.

I also have it set so that if you don't interact with the site for 60 days, it'll stop emailing you. Previously, that was set to 3 days. This might be why you are missing things ( if you don't visit the site often ).

I posted this in the other thread you mentioned the problem in before I saw this one:

So ES notifications are crap
The old PHPBB stuff certainly could be...I haven't tested the new Xenforo stuff, but you might check out the settings in your user control panel to see if they're turned on or setup the way you need them to be, and that it has the right email for you.
You can set it so you only get an "alert" (icon plus number of alerts) in the top blue bar, or also an email notification, for different things:

Email options
Receive news and update emails
Receive email when a new conversation message is receive
Content options
Automatically watch content you create…
and receive email notifications
Automatically watch content you interact with…
and receive email notifications

Thanks AW. Yes aware of all that config and I have reviewed it many times to ensure I'm not missing something.
I think it could just be what Nep mentioned about the 3 days thing.
I still think it would be good to send reminder emails about threads that are active, especially if people have chosen to watch the thread, but haven't checked it for a while. I suspect that many users end up not returning to this site due to this sort of thing as they think a thread has died or forgotten it exists for a topic they are otherwise still interested in.
Cheers

I found another set of issues with the conversion, dunno if either is fixable:

Links (at least in some posts and PMs, I haven't checked all the ones in threads) to individual posts like this one from a PM
and this one
(from this post The SB Cruiser : Amberwolf's 2WD Heavy Cargo Trike & Dog Carrier )
either did not (always) get converted, or aren't (always) being redirected (I don't know which is supposed to happen), because this only goes to the start of the thread, first post, not to that actual post (I don't know which post it was supposed to be or it's date, other than that it was about testing a QS205, around Jan2020; if I could search within the thread I could probably find it with just that info, quickly, but slogging thru the pages I found it is this one: The SB Cruiser : Amberwolf's 2WD Heavy Cargo Trike & Dog Carrier ).

Next, probably not a conversion issue but a wierdness:
One example, in this page
if i hover over a membername on the left side, it pops up some of the member info, but does not have the bottom portion with follow, ignore, etc. It has this info (and the avatar/icon), for anyone in the thread:

In other threads (which are also old, pre-conversion), like these
it shows the expected info

A separate issue is with the editor in WSIWYG mode (no issues yet in BB code mode). It does some wierd stuff. The catch is, I haven't been able to repeat any of it, despite quite a bit of trying. Most of it is things where it moves stuff around on screen that shouldn't be affected by typing in other places (like a carriage return that then moves stuff *above* it, as if a rubber band was cut). If I ever find a pattern or reproducible case, I'll post the repro steps....but until then, just a heads up in case others have seen this, and already do have repro steps.

Yeah, the pages line up 1:1 between phpbb and xenforo but way phpbb references posts makes it extremely hard to make the translation of pages work.
I'm betting this is a super difficult job and it should be low priority.

I notice you can't ignore a moderator but you can ignore anyone else. That's just how the software is. This isn't a bad thing.
In fact, as a user it wouldn't be very wise to ignore a moderator!

The WYSIWYG editor does have some random bugs but we can't do squat about it as it's a very very complex piece of software from a vendor xenforo uses.
There is an updated version we'll be swapping to in coming months that's hopefully more solid, but i can never guarantee flawless operation.

Almost every WYSIWYG editor has minor bugs like this; i know because i tested them all for software i'm developing. CKEditor is the most bug free but they want $2 per user per month :ROFLMAO:

I wondered why I hadn't seen any email notifications to the threads I follow for a while so checked in today and I guess the software update changed some of my preferences. The following parameters were no longer selected so I guess that explains it:
  • Automatically watch content you create…
      • and receive email notifications
  • Automatically watch content you interact with…
      • and receive email notifications

So that didn't work, I'm still not getting email notifications of new comments on subscribed threads.

Interesting, I did get a notice of your reply, first one I've had since the change over.
Yeah, this thread seems ok....it's a bunch of others I seem to have problems with. Have tried unchecking/rechecking watch on a few and it helped for a bit, but it still went back to no emails eventually.
My biggest gripe with this issue is how it would be affecting the already declining user base of ES. I get that it's a balance to not spam people, but if we subscribe to a thread it's because we want to know about it....I don't see the issue with repeat emails on new content.
