    XtraCycle is on the road

Today took Build 1.5 out on the road for the first time. The longtail eliminated the light front end issues I had. 20 mph cross winds were easily handled. Something that was frankly scary before. Not a speed demon running a 2807 clone @12s but this will carry a heavy load.

    Freewheels 5 versus 6 speed

I'm doing a Xtracycle conversion of my Sedona e-bike and I've run into a chainline problem trying to use my 7 speed freewheel. In 7th gear the chain rubs on the special nuts where the old dropouts lock into the new frame extension. It barely clears it in 6th. Will going to a 5 speed gain me more...

    Build 1.5 Xtracycle Time

I've just ordered a Freeradical Commuter Classic Kit to add to my Giant Sedona 9C 2807 Rear Hub Build. At present I have the E-Bikekit torque arm intalled. I had to install it in compression instead of tension. I assume tension would be the most effective method. Is the torque arm I have a good...

    Ammo Box Padding.

I put my 8 packs of 5000 mAh turnigy's in my 50 cal Ammo Box. While thinking about how to pad the extra room in front of the batteries I came up with a solution. Put my spare tube in there and partially inflate it. Works great.

Wire welder as Lipo charger power supply

Would a wire welder such as a Miller 251 be a good power supply for a 12/24V Hyperion Charger like the 1420i? I got thinking that a welding booth would be a good place to charge the batteries and duh I got a big power supply.

How fast do you normally go.

As I wait in anticipation of my 2807 kit to arrive I've wondered "How fast do most people drive their bikes?" Not how fast they'll go but how fast is a normal speed in light traffic.

Battery power to overcome direct drive drag

Has anyone measured the amount of electrical power needed to overcome the drag of a direct drive hub? In other words How much battery power does it take to make a direct hub feel equal to a gear hub when it's freewheeling?

    First Post Questions

I have a Trek 7300 Hybrid That I'm considering as a candidate for an ebike. What I would like to do is purchase a geared front hub 48V lipo system from e-bikekit.com. I've read where front aluminium forks are not a good idea to power. The suspended forks are Suntour NEX 4110 TK. The upper tubes...
