While the squabbling about life choices related to transport costs goes on  , BYD sells 22000 Seal preorders in first six hours.
Nice looking car. Over 500 HP. Lots of range- options. $32,000 - $43000 USD. They Announced Plans to go global this year!

Will never work! How will I tow my 20 foot boat 1000 miles to the lake on top of a 10,000 foot mountain during a snowstorm?
(Just getting that in so everyone else won't have to)

They have the towing part covered also with a hilux class EV pickup soon. 8) Range?

Anyone who thinks that we can continue the status quo needs to take a minute. ......
......With that said, if you don't like the current alternatives then give us your solutions. We don't even need a cheap solution just a better one.
I did that, ..took a minute,..many,..years infact.
Its called education and research.
Solutions are only needed where you think there is a problem.
I posted a practical solution for future seafreight propulsion,..and its not wind !
EVs can replace most transport applications, when the costs are acceptable..but not all
Electricity can replace most fuel/oil applications..but not all
Nuclear can replace most coal / gas electricity generation..but not all.
Life will always be a compromise.

Please tell me how a bike is going to get my sick wife to the nearest ER quickly, 30 miles away
An ambulance.
Another, priveliged urban dweller comment !
And you missed the point...... Chalo was implying NO motorised metal boxes.

and i have to take one or more young children with me also ?.....in the rain/snow !
Yep. And what if you have to tow your boat there because you can't leave it where you are? And there are no ambulances? Your wife might DIE!
Now you are seeing a real situation .. except for the boat (dumb suggestion) , that is the situation i posted..and yes, it could mean life or death !....no joke there ![/quote]

This comes more from a political agenda than anything based in reality. Millions of intelligent people have actually figured all that out, though - so I'm not too worried.
The only political agenda here is the openly declared “redistribution” of wealth, prosperity and power, away from developed countries ,” to anew world order”. . IE...West to East.. (Ref UN Policy statement).

The higher the better, really hope the gov just holds it up there with taxes dedicated to subsidising development of sustainable alternatives.

If you have to drive 30 miles to the nearest hospital, you probably have to drive 30 miles to a lot of other things too. It's a bad choice to live a long distance from the things you need on a regular basis-- bad for you and bad for everybody else too. But it's a bad choice enabled by cars. I just hope that USD $10/gallon (or better yet $20) gasoline shows all such dingdongs the profound error of their ways.

On the plus side, expensive fuel means the streets won't be clogged with toxin-spewing freeloaders who sponge off of city infrastructure without paying their share.
More gibberish from a cosseted urban idealist.
Folk have and are living away from urban areas since civilisation began.
..who do you think grows your food, mines those essential minerals, iron ore,etc
Not everyone lives near a Hospital, school, food or hardware store, etc
You obviously do not realise the actual result of high fuel costs , which will be passed on to EVERYTHING you buy.

No, I was not. You need a crane, use a crane. Need a cement mixer, use a cement mixer. Need a transit bus, use a transit bus. But need to haul around a single self-indulgent jackass? Do everyone a favor and use a bike.

Need a kid hauler? Tough luck, you made your own misfortune. Deal with it in a way that doesn't impose on everybody else.

Folk have and are living away from urban areas since civilisation began.

Yes. And they mostly stayed out there, not spraying everybody with poison when they came to market either.

Idealistic, green, urban hippy, narrow minded, selfish thinking again !
So sick family members, long commutes, disabilities, etc ..are all less worthy than a cement mixer (??), in your warped mind.?

In my understanding, more like N to S, no?

So sick family members, long commutes, disabilities, etc

So your looking for help? Hard to be independent when your clearly dependent. At some point, you go out with your boots on, or you wake up and move to assisted living. As my old farmer friend says; Poser -whiney little bittches need to just STFU and deal with it.

That's the hope, but to be frank it's a pipe dream to imagine that reactionary and whiny American society won't fight every step just because it would rather complain than be mildly inconvenienced. Hell, most of the reasons why people I've known have been against even just buying hybrids were just fears of change.

I changed the way I talk climate change and lowering gas and oil use with some people- kinda depends on how well you guess who they are, but but I began attacking it as a "conserve needed oil for the future" argument and more conservative types responded to that.

Ha! I coulda said the same too; If you're so reliant out there, well you know you have to move if you wanna change it 8)

Ironically... there is more pollution from 5hp Briggs and Stratton Cement mixers and the like ( small domestic residential lawnmowers, construction equipment, ect..) that will never be able to be regulated for the stuff the expel .. And happen to be one of the biggest contributors to pollution and greenohouse gasses.

Its a small drop in a big bucket. However.. enough drip drops and you fill the bucket.

Ok.

https://electrek.co/2021/10/11/california-bans-gas-powered-lawn-equipment-and-other-small-off-road-engines/
California will ban “small off-road engines” (SORE) primarily used in gas-powered lawn equipment, such as leaf blowers and lawnmowers, in a law signed by Governor Gavin Newsom this weekend.

The bill, AB 1346, directs California’s Air Resources Board to draw up regulations that will go into place by 2024. It bans the sale of new SOREs, but does not seem to ban their operation.

"The right tool for the job" is idealistic, green, urban hippy, narrow minded, selfish thinking?

I am beginning to see where your disconnect come from . . . .

So you all want to live in urban areas ?...how cosy, if everyone did that they would be in (high rise) apartments ?
So your looking for help? Hard to be independent when your clearly dependent.....
No..its Chalo that needs help ! .if you bothered to follow the thread, you would see i was attempting to explain that Chalo’s narrow minded, hippy, urban, greenthink....that everybody should replace their car ( presumeably EVs also ?) , with a bike !
I just pointed out that he needs to get out of town more so he can understand that bikes just dont cut it for many situations.

Hillhater said:
Which “job” might that be Jack ?
You missed the jobs under discussion?

Lifting heavy objects (crane.) Moving cement (cement mixer.) Getting people to a hospital (ambulance.) Moving lots of people (transit bus.) Most people can figure this out.

It's suburbanites who need to get into town so they don't burden everybody with their contrived problems, and so they don't block out the best agricultural land to raise their useless retarded whelps.

1)... “jobs” were not being discussed. Vehicles were.
Cranes, cement mixers, ambulance, bus, ...are VEHICLES that Chalo proposed a bike could not replace.!
2)... even if you consider them “jobs” (drivers/operators ), to suggest they are narrow minded and selfish, is a pretty low punch .

This city bollocks is just chatting shit now, yeah they seem all efficient but without external influence they wouldn't exist in most cases citys are not villages that have grown they always been a central distribution area for many small towns.

How can even a mega city specialise in all sectors and have no import exports what you gonna do for material goods ? come on guys your all using solar panels and equipment from your city ? You know a bit of that brown dribble has slipped out your mouth again.

Some need to see we have animalistic behaviour and even when whacko jacko himself went and filmed the earth song the forest was chopped down soon after and those indegionous people were really losing it all not just paid actors.

If we are capable of that its clear we are capable of chopping our own john thomas off and inserting it in ourselfs as a butt plug while not realising whats going on at all till its full length deep.

So to recap this discussion:

Hillhater: Which jobs are those?
Me: (lists jobs)
Hillhater: I wasn't asking about jobs!

Thanks at least for the explanation of how you plan to avoid the topic.

To get back to the topic at hand:

One station in LA is now $8.05 a gallon for regular. And it will continue to make money; they were doing a brisk business all day.

Gas producers and gas station owners have learned an important lesson - most people will pay whatever they ask for gas. And they won't use less. They will keep driving 85mph by themselves to work every day. And until that changes, gas prices will keep going up. Basic economics.

Knew a bunch of folks growing up that smoked two packs a ciggies a day and continued even when the price went way up. They knew it was bad for them. Most All of them gone now.

Whats wrong jack, have you too much time on your hands ?
The discussion before you jumped. In, was about TRANSPORT alternatives....specifically bikes vs cars, cranes, ambulances, etc..
Then YOU lobbed in talking about JOBs ?
So, it was YOU THAT TRIED TO SWITCH THE TOPIC !
