IScooter i12 controller shunt mod

The iScooter i12 has no display other than a battery gauge which shows 4 bars when full, no odometer or anything else. I installed a DVM to monitor voltage & a thermocouple to monitor controller temperature.

Just finished my longest range test yet. Per Strava, from a full charge, I did 27.3 miles @ avg 12 mph. Voltage on the 2 stock 36V 7.5 Ah batteries wired in parallel dropped from 42V to 33.4V (7% remaining, display shows 1 bar).

I am finally happy with my i12's performance (with the mods). Very practical for my use case. I have a Flipsky FT85BS controller if I want it to go faster. For now I think I will keep it as is.
 
The parallel batteries will definitely take a bit of strain off, but still not ideal since the two batteries will vary slightly over time.

I was going to say, one of those batteries + the shunt mod is likely pushing the limits considering they appear to be 10S3P packs, so the cells are likely 7-8a rated cells (common on cheap scooters). For now, with parallel, it sounds like an ok setup, especially on a budget, but would definitely recommend a better quality battery if you ever plan to try out the flipsky and push it harder

iScooterglobal says the battery use Dongci 2500 mAh 10C cells arranged as10S3P. I felt the 2 batteries during and after rides. It was barely lukewarm. Per my amp clamp, full throttle the scooter draws 32A peak for around a second then drops to 22A max. During cruise, much lower than 22A.

That's good info! usually it's quite hard to get cell data from these big suppliers. That cell basically just looks like a EVE 25P copy/alternative. Not much data out there, but sounds like a common brand amoung bulk scooter manufacturers 👌

But yeah, I'm not saying it would blow up, pretty sure iscooter packs are also UL certified, just that they would probably see big voltage sag & cut off and low cycle life when using bigger power

No UL labels on the battery, but the CE label may supercede UL.

I've not encountered this on ebikes before except this i12 scooter: all wire entries into connectors are potted with sealant which made it impossible to easily probe with a DVM.

It's great to see that even the cheaper scooter options are using well-made batteries. I salvaged the cells from my old Fiido 36V battery, and it was well built, but your iscooter battery looks even better. All cables, including the controller, were also potted with hot glue. I'm guessing this may be one of the certification requirements
