My lights don't turn on Smart motion xcity neo

Hello!
Id appreciate any insight, prefacing this by confessing that I'm very ignorant about bike/electrical maintenance and repair so this might be a dumb question or have an obvious solution/cause that I don't realise.

Issue: the back and front light do not turn on, screen shows lights activated but no power supplied, I don't know how to access cables to check if they've come unplugged, lights did work previously. I have to ride back from uni at 6 on an 80km/h road so it's pretty dark and scary with my torch



Bike: Smart Motion X city neo unmodified from purchase, it's pedal assistance and throttled up to 25km, everything else works swimmingly

Odometer: less than 1000kms, it's out of warranty due to time passing

Issue circumstances: it seems to have happened during or a bit before shipping as a family member has shipped it interstate, the shipping and having it moved around is why I suspect it might of come loose, the cable is also pretty lax and the plug connecting the front light comes undone easily and needs to be taped together (I took the tape off for the picture), I can't rule out other potential causes though

Parts: The cables connecting the front light are 2 pin julets male/female but am unsure as to everything else because I can't access them

1. To find out if I should be trying to access the inner cables and if this will help?/how to do that?

I think a loose connector is a reasonable assumption, but it could be something else. It might be worth contacting Smartmotion even if it is out of warranty. They could advise you on the best way to access the circuit for the lights. It also wouldn't hurt to buy an inexpensive rechargeable light set from Amazon or eBay to use in the interim and to have as a backup in the future. Contacted smart motion repeatedly and got no reply unfortunately, someone else had the same lights not working randomly in that thread -so it might be a defect. I'm unable to get the battery housing off via removing screws without also taking apart the bottom part that's attached to the motor ( to look at the PCB controller that's said to control the lights)

it seems there's a transistor that could be replaced as well in the display but I don't think I have the skill level to not break the whole machine, I'd rather have it rideable so I could ride it to the repair store if the diy prospects don't seem good

Pins or thin sewing needles can be used to probe a julet socket to test for voltage in the lighting leads and confirm if power is turned on or not.

The components employed to switch lighting circuits in ebike controllers are notoriously underrated for anything but the supplied lights that come with the bike. Lots of stories of after market lamps being wired into the circuits only to blow the switching components with unknown side effects, -an explosive failure could take out unrelated components in the vicinity...

So I would look at adding an alternative light switch powered directly from the battery so bypassing any risk of controller limitations, Many 'ebike' lights are supplied with a built in voltage dropper so can take a range of input levels.
