new eZip motor

Thanks for the info Dan. I was going to work on the brakes over to Mikes today but it has been raining all day. I will go over in between drops and see what kind of parts he has.

Estimated delivery : Wed. Aug. 19 That may be the big day when it shows up. I copied that from my e mail.

I kind of wish someone on ES rebuilds DC motors. I would pay $40 to get the old Currie motor rewound and new brushes. I would pay $40 also for new magnets and brushes for the MY1020 motor. It don't really need brushes and would run awhile without them but would be like brand new with them. The core of that motor is perfect. Thanks for posting that and I will tone it down some.

These motors are common on e bay. I know you posted something like it awhile back as I found the link. Any idea how to hook a sprocket up to that motor. Also any clue of the rpms at 24V. 24V was max power for that right? If I could get more information on it I could try it on the Currie instead of spending over $100 for that brushless motor. That would be doable sometime next month. Please get specifications if you can. I don't have any more time here as usual. Post when you can. Thanks.

As the Hub Motor Turns and The Lipo Fire Burns. 8/15-8/17

I stopped over to Mikes. He is having some issues with his landlord but I got EDs number. His brother. He will make sure I get good brakes hooked up when I get the new motor. At least I have a plan. The 20" bike is taking the place of the Currie for hauling stuff. The front basket is bolted to the handlebars and very sturdy. I will be hauling groceries and laundry in it like I did with the back basket that was on the Currie.

I plan on building a second 20" bike anyway to sell after I get the Diamond Back set up with the new motor and good brakes. I plan on using the two small motors but one on the front and one on the back instead of two on the front. I think it would run better that way anyway. I can use the 36V controller they are hooked up to now once I get the 36 to 48V variable controller for the new MY1020 motor.

It may be quite a while before I actually build a 50+ mph bike. I know I am not ready for that yet. I am more interested in doing low budget builds to generate a little cash at this point. It makes more sense right now as I don’t have a lot of money for Astro or Golden motors at this time. I don’t even have $120 for that brushless motor Skalabola posted awhile back. That was a real good one.

Another thing before I forget is how to post a long video. Or where could I post a long video. The 2 megabyte limit sucks. I have seen longer high quality videos on ES but they are links I think. When I get everything hooked up I want to post a video on it. Also if I get a chance to blow one of those mountain bikes with the little gas motors off the road I want to post it. I am looking to get a decent onboard camera that mounts on the handlebars or the front basket. I can mount it on the Schwinn or the Diamond Back. Please let me know. Thanks.

As far as that motor for $30 goes is there any way to find the guy who actually built an e bike with one. The link you gave me had a lot of speculation but nothing proven or tested. I will try to find the guy I read about when you first posted it. Thanks.

I sent bentech a PM. We will see if he gets back to me.

I ordered two from Bentech, and received an empty box in the USA mail on Jan 12 2015. Good communication from bentech for a couple of weeks, but now nothing. No refund, no reply on refund. Supposedly the way it works according to my PO is bentech gets to file a claim, I don't. I'm pissed and out $60--$40 for two motors, $20 for shipping. And no reply from bentech.....

That is the original page. That information seems more useful then the people who are still guessing. I am still not sure how to attach a motor sprocket though. Also 450W does not = 28mph so I would still like to hear from bentech himself so I could ask him. Dan do you have any idea how a motor sprocket would attach to that. If so please let me know. I will continue researching this. I am going back to reading the page. Thanks.

After reading page 2 which is the last page on that post it seems that the person with the empty box got his money back and that bentech is a stand up guy. I only read page one before now. The only thing I have a question on now is how to drill the threaded hole for the motor sprocket.

If you want to attach a sprocket or a cassette, what i did, is make thread in the hole inside the shaft with a tap so i can
screw a bolt to attach the sprocket. It take about half a hour to do.

bentech

I am not sure I can accomplish this.

So you ran it at 6S (Let's call it 22-24v range for the moment) and it drew 20a. Okay, at around 450w you got up to 28mph. 26" wheel? What was the gear ratio? Assuming it's around 10:1 that'll give a KV around a tinkerable 150-165 (3,600rpm at the 22-24v) if I've guessed correctly. That's the kind of info that can save people some trouble once they have it.

Dauntless

Dauntless would be another person of interest on this subject. I think he posted on here before. I will check and PM him. If I can figure out how to put a motor sprocket on it I will most definitely order one of these next month. Thanks.

I sent him a message. We will see if either of them responds. Thanks.

I have a very important question. Will that 13 tooth sprocket fit on that motor? I already ordered the motor. I am looking to order a 13 tooth sprocket. Please let me know. Thanks.

That is the page the sprocket was on. Also is there any motor sprockets that will fit on the cobalt wiper motor without any special drilling.

I was also looking at something like this for brakes on the front of the Dimond Back behind the forks like in the picture. Would it work?

If you copy and paste the link for the brake kit it will work. The rear brake don't work at all and my motor will be in within a couple of days. I will not ride it much until I get brakes that work good. I will take it to pick up the new motor as it is flat but wont go over 5mph. Thanks.

I also calculated the wheel sprocket size with the information I got on that cobalt motor and a 108 tooth sprocket is required if the rpm at 22.2 - 24V = 3,600 and the motor is actually capable of 28mph. I used the sprocket calculator on page 71.

This is important as I will need to wait for brakes anyway before installing a motor.

The cobalt wiper motor will work perfect on a 20" bike for 28mph with the 80 tooth sprocket that is on there now if I can put a 11 tooth motor sprocket on it. I could then put the new MY1020 motor on the Currie with another 80 tooth wheel sprocket like what was on it before. Please let me know. I hope to hear from all of you guys. Thanks.

If you guys got my messages Sunder is doing well and will be posting again. He has been busy.

I am giving up on a 13 tooth motor sprocket. at 2250rpm@36V and 750W the new motor is already geared for about 24mph according to the sprocket calculator. When I get a 48V controller it will be simpler to get a 60 tooth wheel sprocket as I wont need the chain to be longer as I would going to a 13 tooth motor sprocket. It is simpler to make the chain shorter than longer. 24mph is good for now though plus the three SLAs still have life in them. No sense in getting an expensive variable controller if I can run the three SLAs until they are spent then order 4 new ones and a cheap 48V Chinese controller.

I will be getting brakes hooked up today when I install the new motor. Maybe even a rear wheel for pedaling. I will need to raise the seat a little and maybe the handlebars if possible. I should have a video up by Friday going 24mph with front and rear brakes. Imagine that! Post when you get a chance. Thanks.

Thanks LC.

Yeah, new baby, new house, new responsibilities at work... Not a lot of time for hobbies, and since I am training for a triathlon, not a lot of motivation to rebuild the electric after the last failure.

I'm keen to know what LC's up to these days, but I seem to have skipped the last 10 pages of posts, and that's a lot to catch up on. Is there a TL:DR version?

Hopefully something interesting without being life threatening!

Quick Update:

Ridiculous motor ideas.
Unsafe speed demands
Recommended gravity drop for performance perspective (Add a pile of batteries to grossly overtax 20" bike and ride it down steep hill to get a feel for 40-50mph speed - life insurance highly recommended!) before expending monies and effort on capable motor-battery.
Occasional anger rant.
RC motor musings >>> expensive meltdown-fireball perspective
Dual motor success(?).
Mandown ... entertainment(?) for those awaiting the inevitable trainwreck
dumun as LCs comic relief sidekick
All go ... no stop attitude (no brakes!)
Riding against traffic "reasoning"(?) expounded.
Cutting-filing 20" fork to make sprocket fit = further weakening drastically overtaxed, essential component, but ... now going to add good brakes to fork so he can induce full stress!
Road Rage?
Burning bridges with those assisting him! (locally)
Gearing too high! = poor power >> battery abuse >> excessive heat >> motor cooking?

Sounds like a cross between "Mythbusters" and "Jackass". Non stop action and drama!

Let the fun begin!

Poor dumun ...
Comic relief sidekick devolves into sad-sack disillusioned sidekick ... :(

You must enjoy it as much as the rest of us, or you wouldn't read it would you?
That must of been your second job (comic) before you retired. Dnmun, you make me laugh.

I'm sorry dumun ... :
Not sure if using a spell checker would help you seem ... less illiterate?
Might give people some clue what you are trying to say though!

Problems reading, or understanding, others posts;
Never learned how to use the shift key;
Fits of anger;
Now, you display a lack of cognition for numbers !
80 (eighty) pages ... not 87 (eighty-seven) pages!

Are you really this troubled ... or are you just trying to make us feel sorry for you?

Hey DA, so he/I can't spell that well but He tries to get a point across.
Maybe he was saying this will be 87 pages and he will come back then.
Why do we attack members that have opinions that vary from our own.
Love you guys, DA DN and even LC  I have tried to help LC in many ways, from support in the mail to bad mouthing high gently trying to get his attention!
I have tried to take to him over the phone, WOW was that hard. Knowing what I was trying to say being my own opinion to him but I never got a chance to take. It was more like this thread. You can say or type what ever you want and LC will still do what he feels what he feels right to him. Tell Him to Put Your Right Shoe On The Right Foot And If HE Feels Wrong He Will Do The Opposite! That is his choice!
Yes he might have weird ideas and does it ONLY HIS way. All we can do is follow the SERIES he is posting and if you don't like the program CHANGE THE CHANNEL!!!

SO GUYS we all have been stupid/ignorant/silly/dumb/deaf, but we have learned from our/others mistakes. Just think how many posts we have read and thought, WTF is he/she talking about or NFW will it work?! Like I said, If you don't like the SERIES/POST, turn the channel.

Many here post with things that are way beyond my/our comprehension.
Read more and learn. WTF is a gate or source wow I forgot the other, I better go look it up.

Sorry guys/gals for my rambling but I sure appreciate all I have learned or have given help in any way to this unbelievable community!

Dan
