Speedict Ebike - Anybody seen/tried this?

A reed switch can reverse the action or am I wrong. As long as this is possible, you are not safe as I have said before.

you'll be screwed anyways when you get caught riding without pedaling or speeding @ superhuman speeds ;) then they don't need to investigate, they'll be having enough proof, never speeding or riding without pedaling is trick number 1

I don't use my phone to view my speed wattage etc, I have the CA to do that for me (mostly due to screen visibility) my speedict is hooked to my pass sensor and is AWLAYS set to provide 250W / 25km/h and the CA screen confirms that (there isn't even a speed limit set in the CA)

wouldn't be the first time that my phone needs a reboot due to a buggy bluetooth driver in order to connect to the speedict, I love my speedict don't get me wrong but it just isn't reliable enough (I'm blaming my phone here)

a reed switch can be hidden anywhere, even inside the frame tubing (if you have an aluminium frame), all it needs is a little magnet to close the circuit and you can go speeding

that basicly allows you to make something super stealthy, very reliable and extremely hard to find

this is what I'm using:

R183483-01.jpg

its the size of a 1W resistor

all you need is a "software bug" that allows you to go faster... hardware could be found, but a "software bug" ? ;)

Hi,

after 3 testdrives over several hours with speedict-ebike and testing various software-settings it seems not possible to get a functional setting as I would expect.
I want to use Road Legal 2 Mode. I have connected speed-sensor to port 1 (works correct), blue throttle-in-cable to port 2, PAS to port 3 and red throttle-out-cable to port 4.

First problem:
Throttle grip works with or without pedalling (0 in port-status of port 3), which is not "Road Legal".

Second problem:
Even when throttle-grip is in off-position (Port-Status of port 2 = 0) and PAS-Cadence-Rate to Power-Level-Output is set to 120:10 or 120:1 or whatever: at the moment when PAS is detecting low Cadence
(30? in port-status of port 3) throttle-output is going to maximum (100 in port-status of port 4).

Third problem:
Sometimes (maybe after 2 hours of cycling) my Phone (Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S - LT18i) lost connection and is not able to reconnect even if i close and reopen the speedict-app or if i reboot the phone.
The only solution is to remove power supply to speedict for a moment with the effect that all data in the live-view especially Capacity Fwd is reset to zero and so i lost overview over the consumed battery-capacity.

To solve the two first problems, i plan to use simply-cut-mode with governor to limit the max-speed and build some extra hardware as "PAS-enables-throttle"-switch or program a mikrocontroller to do this in software.
Then i use Speedict-ebike only for data-logging and live-view.
Here is my wish to you, Danny: I miss in the Multi-Data view following two data-fields:
1. current/actual/latest Wh/km (or Ah/km).
The existing Wh/km shows only the average of the total trip and gives no clue, how far can I biking with the current performance.
2. Total Ah as in ebike-setting menu, which would solve third problem.

PS: Even after re-flashing the firmware, nothing change.
PPS: I can not find any setting in the throttle-range-setup that really the whole range of the throttle-grip is used.
PPPS: I have tested with GPS enabled and disabled. It makes no difference to any of these problems.

you can upload your port status here !

Here is it:
First you can see PAS shows Cadence=23,8 and Throttle-Out is going to maximum (Throttle-Grip is in Off-Position).
Next you can see Throttle-Out reaches maximum (without pedalling, PAS=0 and speed is over 6 km/h) when Throttle-In is 211 and not near the maximum at 447.

I'm curious about this as well. I'd like to see the answer to this before I try throttle control again.

I've got my Speedict Mercury back and have run it for a fortnight or so. I get quite a few force closes in the Android - Speedict Mercury application and they seem random. Live view works fairly well but sometimes the numbers freeze. I get the data live again by closing the app and restarting. The speed data has spikes in it sometimes. Trip records have valid data sometimes but they usually don't, even when live view is working fine. Using data from exported trip records as examples some of the issues are:-

X axis Speed (km/h) Voltage (V) Current (A) Temp1 (°C) Temp2 (°C) latitude longitude GPS Speed (km/h)
1320 12.1 32.79 0 9.5 0 -35.273533 149.121913 25.4
1321 12.9 32.79 14.94 9.4 0 -35.273561 149.121891 25.4
1322 15.6 31.65 12.44 9 0 -35.273589 149.121865 25.4
1323 86.6 32.09 4.83 9.2 0 -35.273618 149.121837 25.4
1324 20.6 32.36 4.54 9.8 0 0
1325 20.8 32.33 3.71 9.6 0 -35.2737 149.121721 25.4
1326 21.4 32.41 3.34 9 0 -35.273754 149.121642 25.4

1. X axis is an integer value that always starts from 0. I need a time stamp to line up this data with data from my other cycling apps and it doesn't show the sampling interval.
2. Sample 1323 has a random 86.6 km/h speed value.
3. Sample 1324 doesn't have GPS data. Often GPS data isn't there for long periods. It gets this data from the phone over Bluetooth, then you later get the file off the Speedict which is tortuously slow. I would prefer to collect the data directly on the phone from the live view stream displayed on the phone during travel.
4. The GPS speed is always 25.4 km/h. This is the case for this whole file and it is wrong. Even in regions where I was stationary and consecutive GPS readings were the same it showed GPS speed as 25.4 km/h.

From another trip.
X axis Speed (km/h) Voltage (V) Current (A) Temp1 (°C) Temp2 (°C) latitude longitude GPS Speed (km/h)
106 0 0 0 0 0 0.16 0
107 0 0 0 0 0 0
108 0 0 0 0 0 0.16 0
109 0 0 0 0 0 0.16 0
110 0 0 0 0 0 0.16 0

1. Everything is 0 or blank (longitude) except latitude which sometimes has an invalid 0.16.
2. The live view on the phone was working OK when this blank trip was recorded.

From another trip.
X axis Speed (km/h) Voltage (V) Current (A) Temp1 (°C) Temp2 (°C) latitude longitude GPS Speed (km/h)
823 0 31.36 0 0.4 0 0
824 0 31.3 0 12 0 0
825 0 26.15 0 0.2 0 0
826 0 26.25 0 0 0 0

1. Longitude and latitude are blank.
2. Voltage looks correct. The dip from 31.3 to 26.25 occurred when I went from no power to full power, however the current shows 0 in both cases. It was less than 0.1 amps for the whole trip even though live view on the handset showed sensible currents.
3. The temperature goes from 0.4 to 12 then 0.2. It was erratic throughout this trip record.
4. Speed is incorrectly shown as 0. It remained 0 for the whole trip.

Looking for advice on how to address these issues.

He's been teasing with this controller for a while now!

C'mon Danny! We're itching over here. I might run out of toy funds before this comes out!

Yes an update on how you are doing with the controller would be great, no simple feat putting one together i'm sure, hope your going well.

Hi Danny,

Just got the Mercury totay, and I think i killed it  ,i was connecting the ports and didn't notice

i dont need to connect port 4 +5v to controller, a little spark and no respond from the

Mercury no lights no bluetooth connection  .

Does warranty cover my case ?

don't cry, just send it back for replacement

Danny do we have the one button roadlegal button with the mercury?
I read the manual but dont see anything about that.

It will be nice when we can switch between roadlegal 2 and unlimited throttle only with one button when cops stops us.

sunday i go install the mercury

we only have instant legal shortcut on speedict venus, not on speedict mercury because the instant legal shortcut is one way quick change which is not elegant enough :)
imagine you are on throttle mode with current throttle or speed limit to 50km, suddenly you want to switch to legal 2 mode speed limited to 25km (provided you have all sensor connected), after awhile you want to change it back to throttle mode, but current design you might need to go through some settings such as speed gain or time gain on speed throttle setup, that's is painful ...
later we will re-work the whole function mode module to custom function mode, e.g. you can create your own function mode like "test-drive" and all setting parameters will also be stored within individual function, and these functions can be quick switch via shortcut interface.

1. you are on "test-drive" function mode, and suddenly you want to change to road legal 2 mode by tap on the road legal 2 function mode on shortcut menu, after awhile you can tap on the "test-drive" function mode to resume your previous setting.

or 2. each family members can has their own function mode and style !

I was wondering if there are any developments regarding the "test-drive" function.

yes we are working on multi-profile that enable quick switch profile via android with single button such as off-road, road-legal or user customized profiles.

Hi Danny any news yet.

I was wondering if the roadlegal swich is ready. i like to use de roadlegal mode / offroad mode swich

Now i only use the mercury only as voltage / amp display and alarm.

Speedict when are you going to put the option to multiply by the number of bateries to get the corect voltage? How much does the speedict consume?

Some one using more than 74v? What voltage do you use in speedict ? Did you use 3 or 4 conectors of speedict?

80v with pre-charge circuit is ok, please beware of inrush current that might kill it.

Hello to all,
don't waste your time with speedict.
There are many unsolved problems and missing features which we never get.

Hi,

after 3 testdrives over several hours with speedict-ebike and testing various software-settings it seems not possible to get a functional setting as I would expect.

Hi Danny,
is it possible (in the future) to use the usb-port or bluetooth (or if the microcontroller have an i2c-interface to use free io-ports) to connect to an (USB-/bluetooth)LCD?
I ask this because android-smartphones are smart, but in the bright sunlight is every modern smartphone difficulty to read off.
In contrast to LCD, which are in bright sunlight very easily to read off. This is in my opinion the major advantage of the cycle-analyst.
Here are some links:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w7B4iJsnmCk
http://www.crystalfontz.com/product/CFA634YFHKU

Next idea:
I use a heart-rate-belt to measure my heartrate when i cycle. I use an ant+ heart-rate-belt from garmin and an ant+ capable sony xperia arc s with following apps: HRnavi+, GarminFit and uBikeLite.
I can use ant+ and bluetooth at same time, but i have to switch between apps when i want to view my heartrate or to view the eBike (or mercury) data.
It would be nice, if it would be possible to watch the heartrate in a data field of eBikes live view.
And then the heartrate could be logged similar to gps-data?

Greetings from germany

Here in my native country there is a open-source-solution based on arduino-hardware in a german forum.
With this Hard- and Software you can do things that speedict never can do.
Because its open-source you can make your own changes by yourself.
You can connect lcd which is easily readable in bright sunlight.
Or you can use your smartphone as display like speedict over bluetooth.
You can log direct to smartphones sd-card or use openlog-module or similar to log without smartphone like speedict.
You can connect GPS-Module and so your logs have GPS-data without the need of bluetooth-connection to smartphone.
You can connect RTC-Module and so your logs have real-time-data.
You can connect various Temperature-Modules.
You can connect:
Barometric Pressure Sensor >> so you can calculate slope of hills even without satellit-fix of GPS.
You can connect a heartrate-sensor and view (and log) your heartrate and hrv on lcd or smartphone.
You can measure current and voltage.
You can measure speed and cadence.
You can calculate Ah, W, Wh, Wh/km.
You can log whatever you want in logview-format and later convert data on pc to kml/kmz and view in googleearth or google-maps.
You can use other current-sensors and so it is possible to measure 400A.
If you have external power supply for arduino you can measure every voltage you want, when voltage-divider is adapted.
If you want you can programm it by yourself to play mp3-files (Not implemented yet, but you can do this by yourself if you want).

You can programm your own mode-switch and so you can switch between Road-legal and Offroad by menu or by pressing a Hardwareswitch short or by pressing it long .....

Hello to all,
don't waste your time with speedict.
There are many unsolved problems and missing features which we never get.

as per your information such as android client 2.3.4, you were referred to SPEEDICT EBIKE not MERCURY right ? since those reported issues have been resolved on Mercury and we keep refining it. sorry about eBike since it has no room for improvement due to its lack of hardware resources.

When I select PAS-Mode with 5 magnets, Port Status says: PAS In 50 (real Cadence is 60, measured with timer).
When I change to 4 magnets (PAS-Sensor has still 5 magnets), Port-Status now show the right value: PAS In 60.

on port status it shown real time cadence per second, please try to average the 1 minute range of the cadence rate on port status and compare to your timer count.

after 3 testdrives over several hours with speedict-ebike and testing various software-settings it seems not possible to get a functional setting as I would expect.
I want to use Road Legal 2 Mode. I have connected speed-sensor to port 1 (works correct), blue throttle-in-cable to port 2, PAS to port 3 and red throttle-out-cable to port 4.

First problem:
Throttle grip works with or without pedalling (0 in port-status of port 3), which is not "Road Legal".

please double check your MOTOR START METHOD option under road legal setting, please make sure you selected "6KM" rather than "Start Power", if you selected Start Power with power level which is to control soft to hard start up power, not 6KM start control.

Second problem:
Even when throttle-grip is in off-position (Port-Status of port 2 = 0) and PAS-Cadence-Rate to Power-Level-Output is set to 120:10 or 120:1 or whatever: at the moment when PAS is detecting low Cadence
(30? in port-status of port 3) throttle-output is going to maximum (100 in port-status of port 4).

please try the cadence power level to 30:100 and see if problem still exist ?

Third problem:
Sometimes (maybe after 2 hours of cycling) my Phone (Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S - LT18i) lost connection and is not able to reconnect even if i close and reopen the speedict-app or if i reboot the phone.
The only solution is to remove power supply to speedict for a moment with the effect that all data in the live-view especially Capacity Fwd is reset to zero and so i lost overview over the consumed battery-capacity.

this was caused by Sony's ROM and we have resolved it on Mercury, sorry i couldn't tell you what went wrong on Sony's or other Android ROM caused this, but could you try another Android phone and see if this problem still exist ?

you can google "Xperia Arc S bluetooth problem" and you can see what's happening.

and next time when happening, please try to force the running Speedict ebike client quit and restart it, see if this can help, you don't need to restart the Speedict eBike and let the data uninterrupted.

next time when you have problem you can send email to our support team since i rarely visit ES now because i am busy on new project, sorry about that :(

Oh i got it .... i saw your posted port status on May 11, clearly you have selected SoftStart rather than 6KM legal start, so please change it back to 6Km on MOTOR START METHOD option :D

ThrottleCurentValue = 3000
ThrottleCurrentGain = 30
CruiseFlat = -2
6kmModeFlat = 0
SoftStartFlat = 1
SoftStartGain = 20
ebike setting end ====

Hope this can help :D

I can't test any of your suggestions because i have cutted red and blue throttle cables to use the connectors for my DIY-Controller.
I wish you success with your company.
There are many people which can't programm a mikrocontroller or they are to lazy to do this or learning to do this.
Those people wish a finished solution. That's the market for you.
There are surely satisfied customers with speedict.
I personally have no problems to programm a mikrocontroller in C or change the existing source-code.
So I have more options with the DIY-Controller (called Forums-Controller).

Greetings

the forums controller just does not support any communication with my BMS, neither does the speedict. That's why I develope this one further... it is open source  http://64.64.13.141/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=47124 I like the bluetooth option, it was the first one I support. ATM we implement this on ATtiny85 to make it cheap to fit this into the battery. I guess you speedict people could learn something and add a 128x64pix graphic display interface vie I2C like we do ;)

Guess I will try to answer your question Ihatepedlling. My mars speedict became quite eradict (stored files were useless), and the calibration for live view was at least 5 volts too high. I sent mine back to Hong Kong last week, cost about $7 by USPostal with minimal packaging. Will try to let the endlesssphere group know about any results from this experience. Hope this helps.

I have a question about the Speedict Venus.
The BH E-motion Neo is speed restricted. It uses a hall speed sensor in the motor to get the speed. I'm guessing that it pulses at about 5 times for each wheel revolution, but it could be faster.

Could the Speedict Venus slow down the pulsing like it does with the Bosch?
What is the maximum frequency of pulsing that it can handle?
