Tucson Death Race 2011 roll call. Results on page 1

If you were to break down in the heat race, you won't have time to rebuild a motor, nor would you have qualified for the main anyway.

Second bike would work, but you'd have to run again in another heat race to get into the main.

Are the heat races timed? Or is it a bracket system where the top two from each race move on to the final no matter what time they get?

Typicly qualifying will be determined by the number of entries.

Say the track will hold 30 bikes for the main event & 115 riders show up, so your looking at 4 heat races with the top 7 or 8 heading to the main event. Seems history had 2 qualifiers & a few guys would drop out before the main event & open some slots for anyone who wanted to run.

Its a totaly casual event so don't be expecting NHRA profesionalism from the organizers & staff. Reminde Dogman about the (not black) black flaging incedent???

Luke,

Hubbies FTW is my prediction, and don't discount the possibility of a lurker with something as simple as a 2wd hubbied bike running high voltage and a big battery pack. A 140lb guy with dual 5303's and 150v controllers

People keep talking about the first corner or two like it matters, but they're confusing normal racing where equipment is matched in potential to make the races fair vs this no rules race which makes outclassing the field enough to offset riding skill not only possible, but likely. This isn't and shouldn't be a "fair" race, not this go round.

While I hope Thud hold it together to finish, my heart goes with the guys running hubs.

Wish I could be there!

John

I'll bet right now that I'm screwed since niether LFP or Thud are likely to crash.

lol... Bro, I'm just hoping I only have low-sides. I'm going to be in full superbike leathers (with a cooling system underneath). I'm putting sliders on the bike.

I've got a professional test rider at work BEGGING to get to be the rider, and another co-worker who races pro-AMA superbike who wants to race it. lol They are both about 1000000x better riders than me (and one of them is 100lbs lighter than me...), but I'm going to be racing my bike.

I'm hoping I don't get too broken/crashed-up in the race, as Sunday evening after the race I fly out for another few weeks in China...

I sure hope you guys are planning for some video for us who can't be out there with you!

Yea, same here, Was it dogman that was recording it with the headcam last year? Is anyone intending on getting some video footage of the race this year or is video equipment crossed off the list for weight reduction as it sounds SUPER competetive this time round haha :)

The cam I used last fall weighs about 1 oz. I'll have a slightly heavier, but hopefully more reliable one on the bike this time. I didn't get much footage of the main last time out, and the same day another guy never got his cam started. More cams is good, I want to see more video of my ass leaving em behind. I'm thinking about a rear view cam this time out too, if I can make it turn on that is.

Yeah, being first into the 2nd corner is not so important. Gonna blow em away anyway on that first long straight. I seem to have all my contact in the 4th corner. Somebody with better brakes seems to pass me entering the corner, and then park it in front of me at the apex. So any distance gained in off the line at the start can help with that. I didn't have that probelm in the main, just in the heat when I was slower running only 20s. This time, I will be running 26s in both heats. In any case, the more guys you are ahead of the better in case they pile up in turn 2. Turn 2 is a bear, but off the start line you enter it slower so it's not so bad at the start really.

If you haven't been already, watch Daves past videos so you can memorize the track and learn the fast line.

I picked up an action cam to get footage & a couple 4 gig cards.

& I have a pr of them hokeie keychain cameras & a turnigy spy cam...I have yet to shoot any viable footage with the little things but am making arangments for some better mounting. I'll send all my footage to AJ for an editing compilation.

I have a copy of the track lay-out on my desk & cubical wall at work....on the coffee table at home & on the wall in the work shop. I am running laps every day vsualy & I will be at th track friday to rent a gokart or pocket bike to run as many laps as I can get....

Yay, more video. Boring to watch though, video of empty track. Why can't those guys who crash every time have cams?

If I can make a crashproof box for my digicam, I will. ;) But its' teh only one I have that does video (that still works), so if I can't be sure it'll survive a crash unscathed, I can't risk it.

Didn't mean you. I was thinking about a couple other guys who think they are fast, and are, but then crash.

Oh, but I know I will crash, too, it just depends on where. PRobbly same place I did before. cuz I'll try to go too fast there again (it's so tempting!).

Well, we may just have to stick one of my cheapo Turnigy cams to ya then. I just keep telling myself, and my wife, no way I'll crash, no way I'll crash, no way I'll crash. I corner good, so maybe I won't. Can't wait to see your newest creation.

What sort of rubber are you running on dogman?

Same cheap Innova tires as last two times. I replaced the drive one. Nothing fancy, but a pretty good tire for a bike type. The cheaper the tire, the softer the compound, and they have a nice v shape to em for leaning.

We'll see a lot of fast riders sporting a set of maxxis hookworms. I considered swapping to them, but I'm pretty comfy on what I have. If nothing else, they go as far as my balls do.

Not always, my $4 tire is slick as hell. I guess that's why it's lasted 8-10k miles and is just getting worn enough to replace.

The innova swiftor tire does not last. So I'm assuming it's relatively soft compound. They feel good to me anyway, I really like the v shaped profile of them, which makes the rubber get wide when you lean em. Stood up, it's very narrow and fast.

I may end up riding CrazyBike2 instead of the new bike. Things are not going well.

It's Official!

Dave31 is defending on the Morini powerd boxer......Game ON!

Good news! An ebike beats him, it beats the real champ. Personally, I'd be proud as hell to come in second to him. I don't think my bike can quite keep up with his, but I should be able to keep up with Alex this time with 8 more volts. Of course, Alex has had all winter to work on his bike.... You know he's dying to beat Dave too.

For sure there is a lot of rivalry we arent even aware of.
My personal goals:
#1) have the bke last the entire event

if that happens I want to:

#2) lead a lap (or at least be in the lead for a couple turns on a lap)
#3) finish top 5

(prefer top 3 but not putting any presure on myself. I am going to have FUN!)

I would love to podium, but missed my chance last fall, with only the locals there. But we'll see. I'm 8v faster this time, and have plenty of capacity. But the bike is really getting tricky to ride. Definitely I'm at the limits, if not way past it, for a front hub. Even so, I sure do love the way that front hub pulls with no wheelies. Gotta go one more time with the frontie.

So for me too,

#1 no dnf.
#2 keep up with Dave and Alex, at least in sight of him.
#3 podium
#4 might have to beat others on a morini, to even podium. Beating a morini would be epic enough.

With 50 mph in 200 feet  you should be just about garanteed to lead lap one, unless the pink sparkles is leading.

Current pic of my bike. I've added a rear box to carry 6s 15 ah of additional battery. 26s 15 ah is the battery size. 2807 9 continent motor as before. Spooky tooth 2011 race bike.JPG

Still working hard exploding mind and busting knuckles. Battery box had some paint incompatibility issues. Still wiring batteries, building seat, welding brackets etc... Battery box won't be completed, but it still will look good! Maybe i'll tip my hand, if I find time, and post some pictures up. :D Back to work... Anyone have Ho-Jo's number?

My goal is to ride on the track for at least a lap before something falls off. Since that goal is contingent on a lot of other things, I think making that one thing happen will have to do.
