I know I am kind of repeating myself now, I've been asking for a connection to use cell phone rather then the original display.
Well I came across Iwoc today, and they got what you need to bring all kinds of fun functions to the Adaptto family of controllers.
I have to second this,
It looks to me like using a basic Android phone as the display for the controller would have a long list of advantages.
- Nice color touch screen for easier to use and navigate user interface.
- Easier to use programming interface with better on screen user feedback
-
A standard powerful Software platform making it easy to develop new and more sophisticated functionality (passwords, mode locks, curve response programming, signal processing etc...)
- GPS and Bluetooth functionality built in
- Maps
- Access to many Anti theft & Tracking apps to secure your bike and track your trips
- Alarm
- SIM card support for anti theft functionality as well as possible Over The Air updates
- The whole range of Android Apps
- With the proper mount, possibility to remove the display when you leave the bike unattended
- A basic Small Android phone today could be sourced for very little money, so it would not raise the price much if any at all.
And the list can go on.
Basically, why reinvent the wheel,
Adaptto could focus on its core strength and added value, which is the controller hardware, the functionality and user experience. Using an Android phone as the base for the display would make it a lot easier to develop new and more advanced software based functionality, allowing Adaptto to offer a much faster turnaround on new features. And of course, it would bring many of the standard features and benefits available in an Android phone at no cost.
My 2 cents
