Bicyclers HATING Ebikers

Any stories? I may have to post some ebay screenshots (probably not, big no no)... These guys go hard on me every day. I go around to bicycle shops too. EVEN THE ONES CARRYING EBIKES HATE ME. I must be a MAJOR asshole. I dunno... (well,) I am amazed at the level of hate. It's crazy to me. If I acted like that, I would be afraid of the consequences! What are people thinking, and why are they so mad??!

I mean, obviously not ALL of them... but you know...

For the record, I never take anything too personally.. I'm more just wanting to hear good stories here!

Coincidentally, I took an off-hours ride 2day and saw a roadie (with bigass calves and the spandex and light bike). He was somewhat out of place I guess - he turned up on dead end pavement. I came up with my 75lb 2.4" tire bike right there as he was stopping and said 'whatsup?' I would have shared the glee of 'E'', or at least complimented his bike, but he barely nodded, turned, and smashed the pedals to go back.

I smashed my throttle to speed and then pedalled past him at >25mph.

Not sure what he was thinking, but then I crossed sides of the street, went over sidewalk into a grassy bank, went nearly wot and did a wheelie from about 25 to 35mph lol (still pedalling as much as I could) and took off, disappearing around the corner. Hopefully the pedal pounder got a laugh outof it - I know it didn't confuse him as much as the occasional rednecks that think I'm 'jesus on a bicycle' lol.

Maybe your bike looks like an IED built by the Borg from items they scavenged out of the trash compactor at Walmart. Some e-bikes do.

If your bike looks anything like the black one in the top of your Re-Cycles thread, that's clearly a motorcycle in bicycle drag, a cheater's tool. If you're using too much battery to drive too much motor, then trying to pass it off as a bicycle, well... nobody likes that.

A license plate and inspection sticker, plus legal and responsible use of the traffic lane only, will probably eliminate whatever hairy eyeballs you're getting now.

Fair enough, but Im talking no ebike around.

Maybe its the high price and hard pedaling when sometimes we pay cheaper to go without pedal. Hehe.

I know there are problems on the road etc.. I totally respect that.

As far as the cheating thing... Doesn't apply. Won't humour that!

I advise you to disregard signs of disapproval from others, appease the cops, and do what you like. Having harmless fun, without explanation, is probably the best way to help folks understand. Stay out of trouble.

Sounds very reasonable! I think some of the e-bike thing for people is out of need, not only fun... It just always trips me out when I see a group of people, or even a single person, with the 'elitist' snobby attitude. I would be scared to have that attitude in life. Afraid it would come back on me! To each their own I guess. I just want to be comfortable and not stress about tomorrow, ya know... forget hating on the next man. I don't get it lately.

P.S. - they especially love the lowball bids for frames on ebay. ESPECIALLY (ok, I get that part)

I did 35km today, and never had no one "eyeballing" me. However I prefer my ebikes to LQQK like bicycles. I ride accordingly and respectfully. Sure there are times I get eerrrrrr up to 45kph but rarely, thats more of a speed I use when riding on the road, then I get "eyeballs" alot, more so from children. They seem to have a sense, I dunno, havent quite figured it out yet. Is it just their curosioty at everything, or my speed or do they know I am a bicyclist cheater. Wished I cared, really do. My ebike grin and fake pedaling is fine with me.

HAHAHA, Yeah, I am guilty of the fake pedaling with a **** eating grin! I am pretty sure the kids on the block think I am superman, since you cannot see the TSDZ2 on the giant double 42/52 chainring on my Norco... no problems when I am actually riding the thing! Funny enough... I think I just hear more 'talk' or see it on the bicycle business end than experience it when I am out.

There's several threads; at least one has "cheater" or plural in the title; another "haters", I don't recall all of them. I'm sure a quick search would turn up lots of things most people don't care to look for first.

I cruised at 45kph past a pair of Lycra's talking to each other doing 30kph on some fancy road bikes through a burb.
I said something to the effect of "Hey I'm cheating, Hey I'm cheating" and the one guy facing me said something but I had my earphones in and couldnt hear him.

I usually tell neighborhood riders to go electric as I past them. Not many want to know more about my contraption.
Usually only on the train when I aint goin no where.
