Custom Build... 2 Speed H.O.B.O Powered e-Cruiser

Wow ! .. she sure goes well Kim ! .. you seem to have a bunch of "death Wish" zombie pedestrians around there though !
I noticed you hesitate and ride slow past that roadside pile of trash as you got near back home .. anything useful ? :D :D
.. Oh and you need to get the Pikies in to fix up your driveway !

That is a perfect display of HOBO e-biking Kim.
I never heard any sync loss with the low launch gear....& you seem to have plenty of top speed for the neigborhood.

looking good man!

Haha yes I didnt take note of the time before heading out, it was obviously school knock of time, theres 2 high schools and two primary schools within 2km of each other.

There has been a load of kerbside rubbish, alas nothing much left of use after the weekend, the piles have been pretty well picked over :-(

@GWhy..yup shes very rideable buddy, hall sensor setup would definately still be superior for technical riding no doubt, but for your on road stuff I think the hv160 mated with the rc CA performs admirably..

@YPedal MaN....check vid again :p thx adrian for the tip on fixing theaspect ratio using code in youtube tags ;)

@Luke...sure like to see video of a 100mph run, seeing u say u regularly ride this bike I would have thought getting video of this would be a forality, all I have seen is u doing a warm up lap @LagusSeca, when you going to get some highspeed footage for Us? Some vision of you speeding along the highway at 60mph like you posted you do regularly would be cool to actually see since we hear so much about it and all, very surprised a street racer like u hasnt captured this earlier, step up mate :p
some of those wheelies and rear wheel off the ground braking would also be cool too actually see ;)
While im thinking about wheelies, what happend to the youtube video of u practising monos on you road and trail? I saved a copy of it somewhere, Ill need to track it down.

KiM

Edit: @ThudSTeR u posted while I was typing lol...to this day I still have not had a sync issue with the hv160 Turnigy combo! Definately has the speed, the limit is 50km/hr in built up areas, 60 on major roads, so yeah, plenty quick enough and dead on what u calculated before building the two speed ThudSTeR box! I wonder often what she could getup to if I drpped a few teeth on the rear sprocket and found a long flat oad seeing she gets to 65km/r fast and effortlessly, I would think another 20-30 km/hr would be doable briefly, will have to test her out onthe hwy sometime, not a major priority though I think 70km/r is pushing the safety limits of a bicyle

If I make videos it wont make anyone else's Ebike videos look exciting anymore KiM. :)

Good to see it up and running mate, sounds like Justin's new RC CA hotness is a no brainer for anyone doing a RC conversion. The gearbox sounds like its running well too. Now you just need an extra gear
While I do like the gears I also kinda like convenience of zero to top speed without having to shift at all, at the expense of efficiency of course. Some would argue it's a small price to pay for some peace and quiet :p

Bummer I didn't get a chance to ride it in its more refined state. Should be nice and reliable for you like this anyway with the HV160 not pushed to the max.

 Weeell..it Would also verify what you have claimed in many threads buddy, time to get some footage happening, will finally satisfy the growing number of people wanting to see proof (myself included) of the 60mph on freeway runs you claim to regularly make and of course we all would like to see the 100mph it does Luke, Doctor Bass especially! LoL  , along with power monos, rear end off the ground braking that we often hear about... Definitely will be an exciting video! Tiz long overdue, time to Get it on my friend... we all heard about it now we want to actually see YOU doing it

@Jay.... Single speeds are for wiminez and male hairdressers :p When your well you will have to hop a plane and come for a weekend of e-bike shinanigans, perhaps pre-ship yor bike to my place ready for your arrival, we can get some group rides and meet ups organised for the weekend, i'll go you halves in the air fare Jay.

I just got back from my 3rd Dentist appointment in 2 less than 2 weeks half my face is numb, i hadn't been to the Dentist in 20 years and didnt regularly brush for alot of those years, i knew i was in for some pain when the dentist first looked in my mouth and said .."WoW!" Surprisingly i only had one small cavity and that was under an old filling i got when i was a teenager :-| All Lots better now though, 3 motnhs i go back for a reveiw and a final cleaning, i brush twice a day now HAHA...Least it has been cheap, god bless insurance...

Off for a ride and scout some more kerbside rubbish piles....

I thought you were an Ausie, not English :)

The bike is awesome, and shifting is just way too cool. Nice job Kim!

HAHA...Nagh, definately not english, my ancestors are actually Norweign not English, I.m an AussieViking, hrms that could be a good online nick name LoL :p I actually have excellent teeth under alll the plaque, I had braces when younger so they are alll nice and straight and surprisingly the years i spent during the 1990s ripping tops of beer and I d id this often! hasn't done any permanent damage thankfully!... :)

Upped the current to 160amp yesterday, still as rideable as it was with 130amp limit, but you also get a little added "ev-grin" factor when you hit second gear and twist the throttle a lil rapidly hehehe..2 speeds FTMFW!!!

Brush your teeth with wine when you are done it makes them stronger.
:D :D

*BuMP*

Finally got the tow hitch fabricated and fitted on Sundee morning
does the job, 3x 8mm cap screws hold it in place, as such its easily
removed when i go on group rides or with another rider etc etc....
and leave the chair at home, I have always hated having to put
these things on my bikes but obviously if i am going somewhere on my own i will
need my wheelie chair when i get to the other end :-(

Few pics of the tow hitch, same as on the blue cruiser in design
but i have used 6mm instead of 10mm solid bar stock realising
10mm was incredible overkill and weight not needed ;) a carabiner
was again utilised to connect the chair and tow assembly together
it works amazingly well and is soooo simple, i thought some guys
here that hadn't been around early for the last bike, might like to see it?
could also be used to hookz up a trailer...

As with the tow hitch assembly on the ol blue cruiser, this one will also
be powedercoated satin black to help it 'blend' in with the wheel
and hopefully not stand out like nuts on a bull terrier.

And, Yes! i can hook it up on my own and detach it without a problem
i tellz ya being 20kg lighter is sooooo good! i feel like a different person
I can 'jump' up on the bike noooo problemo now, been hitting the
weights last 3 weeks too, my legs are stronger i don't even use the
stabilizers anymore once i have gotten on the bike, they are used now
purely for transferring on and off the bike, not for stopping on route... rapt :)

Nice work buddy, so next up powder coat, carbon fibre cowling and then perhaps a group ride just in time for some nice weather? 8) :D

Do you take that thing up to the Kalamunda hotel? I've had many a beer too many up there! :D

Simon.

Hey Kim, are you going to put a tow hitch on the chair so you can tow the bike home?

Great work Kim.

Gow.

@Gtadmin..thanks mate, but let's not get to ahead of ourselves lol...

@sico...i'm up for a ride anytime, bikes been running for months been on a handful of rides out bush now, got over 500km'son her now AND yes been to the Kalamunda Hotel, alas I parked outside but now I can wheel in on the chair lol.. I should have part ownership in the Kala Pub, mate, have I spent some $$$'s there over the years sico lol..

@the last guy that commented... (l'm on my mobile can't scroll to see name ) why would I want to tow my bike around with my Wheelchair? bit like the cart before the horse isn't it? Been doing this ebike stuff long mate? I'm sure if you stick with it you will work it out eventually...: -P

KiM

Great to see an update on the bike's progress. The hitch looks nice and simple but effective which is always the best combination.

Also good to see that you are looking after yourself. 20kg sure would make a big difference to your mobility.

Hope you dont mind me asking (I am sure you will tell me if you do :) ). You mentioned your legs were getting stronger. I presume you have some movement available. Can you continue to improve on this?

All good news Kim. Are you going to be able to stop ridding it long enough to paint it and fit the carbon fiber? ha ha

Clay

^^^LoL..Seriously doubtful  the CF yes the 'official and final paint job' though..
not for this summer anywayz haha...considering getting a lil pot of paint and a stiff bristled
brush, spend a few minutes with some masking tape then going at the frame with the brush
dabbing on the paint with the tip of the brush haha, be a flat black affair just to stop the
surface rust for time being.

@Kepler... I have full movement to the knees buddy, but very week and my left leg is about 80% weaker
than my right, i broke the knee badly all ligments and bone damage, it was in cast for ~6 months and thus is
wasted along with the surgeons robbing bits from the top of the leg to reconstruct the knee well, has left the leg
extremely week... Stretching and light weights is what i have been doing with the legs they will
get stronger but will never be useable to walk with my pelvis was too badly damaged to support
my weight for more than a minute or so and the whole no movement of the feet makes it all a
no goer anywayz, even with the weight loss... My left arm is also about 20% weaker than my right
this was in a cast from wrist to shoulder for many months, actually had 2 casts fitted due to the
arm wasting and becoming to 'sloppy' in the cast LoL , when it was taken from the cast, took a week
to have it straightened on a machine (was in a cast bent at elbow at ~90 degrees) once straightened
i couldnt arm curl a 1kilo weight with it, now i can do 10 kilo (plus bar) 3 reps of 20 ...
it still has titanium plates, and muscle loss on the forearm, cant stand the pain to lift heavier or
more reps at this time...the 'guns' though aint nothin wrong with them they iz bigger than
HiGHSiDE Hyenas spindly lil ladylegs  hehee...

cheers guys OH... i may have mentioned many pages ago when the 2 Speed ThudSTeR box
arrived that Thud sent some additional sprockets to 'test' out...the sprocket that has been
in use was the smallest tooth count of all 3 sprockets a 14 tooth last night with the help of the
amazing Danny Mayes ;) we got the sprockets to fit my slightly larger than usual
Turnigy shaft, Danny worked on this while i relived a lil from the sprocket with some fine sand
paper curled up in a rol' wasn't long before we had them slipping on neatly good work
Mr Mayes :) ...still waiting for the ground to dry so i can see how much of a sped
increase we get before i swap in the largest of the sprockets teeheee shall report back on
the outcome...

Ciao for now

So how did it go??? :D

Went quick enough you will need a 3rd motor on that Cafe Racer of yours to keep up
Mr Mayes  :p I hunted about for another joiner link not happy with the
extra width of the one we used Mondee night, i managed to get a better chain tension
using a 'ball end allen keys' to get the extra clearance on the chain whille accessing the allen key
bolts that hold the motor in postion... I ran the bike on 46.9v at the point i usually whack him on the charger
needless to say, the speed on the same stetch of road was up 3-4km/hr in first, ran out of road to
accurately judge the increaese in top speed, i need to bleed the brakes/get new pads ALREADY
all that extra weight the bike had to stop took its toll on the front pads i think hehee...

Bikes on the charger now Mr Mayes, give me 45-60minutes and ill tell you what she does
on a full charged pack so you can re-work your gearing to keep up teehehe

p.s still have the 16tooth to try...but as Thud warns, the increase in speed
comes with the consequences of dead ESC/motors up here in the hills i think
ill stick with the 15 tooth, take offs on hills remains good..havent tried
towing the chair at this stage with the flat spot on the wheelchair (solid tires) it
bumps about like you wouldn't believe when i get up to 40km/hr

EDIT: OK Danny boi...fully charged pack she ran out of road at 75km/hr and climbing
and she still gets there damn quick! I forgot to tell you, i gave GeoOoFF a run
in his Ford PV up the street smoked him to 60km/hr with ease should have him to 75 now hehehe
EDiT 2: Forgot to mention, cruising in second gear on the flat at moderate speed
30-40km/hr it is alot quieter than it was with the smaller 14 tooth sprocket, i think this is a combination
of a better sprocket ie the 14tooth i took off was from a larger shaft motor thus i shimmed it out
was near to true but a lil out causing slight vibration and a lil more noise, with correct
chain tension and alignment, it makes noticeably less noise, which is good, not a fan of lots of chain noise
just the lovely sound of the outrunner screaming its box off hehehe...

All good news mate!

Yeah sounds like a good compromise without going to the 16 tooth.

Good to hear about the reduction of noise too. Always a good thing.

If i can keep up mate, i will be happy :D We'll see....

I would love to hear some more feedback on the RC cycle anilyst unit...& seeing how it works with your gearing up exploits...post a few data log graphs & such when you get the time.

Are you getting any more motor heat pushing the wind out of your way at 45mph+ 8)

no rush for any of it..

The motor was slightly warmer than usual Thud
As was the controller, I should be able to take out for a
Longer run in the next few days when I have someone here
That can collect me if she fails, I could get you some data with
Wheelchair in tow but that wouldn't be too exciting lol.

Back soon bois

Well...i went out this arvo (actually yesterday i wrote this been messing with the bloody video editor
damn XP HATE it want my Win7 pc back :: sigh :: )
such a beauuudiful day after two days of showers,
tried twice to get some video for you buddy, first one the wind noise was atrociousness
the second one (still encoding as i type) is better but not great, every
vibration from the bars goes through the camera nevertheless i shall
up a link when its done encoding and i have it upped to blo-Tube... I have to say though Todd
i think 75km/hr is as fast as i am willing to go on bicycle tires i'll leave
it for the younger-haven't- fallen-off-yet-less-broken-crowd to go fast on bicycle
tires, the bike itself, it handles beaudifully! stable as a rock but i just can't
help thinking of a tire failure (put me in a wheelchair after all LoL)
aaand especially after the last valve expired on the front tire
not 5 minutes after i returned from a long bush ride with Matt.P hitting speeds
of 70+ going down some large hills...20 minutes earlier and i would have been a mark on the road...
anyhoot, the data log i forgot again, to clear post the last ride BUT you get to see some
comparisons from old and new gearing i guess... :: shrugs:: all that really
concerns me on these is the ripple and that its under 4v, thankfully it always
is now Bus Bars and 8ga wire FTMFW :p

CC_HV160_Data_log_01%20Sep.%2029%2015.24.jpg

shiit...didn't notice the expired Screen Hunter message curse having to use it
on this XP machine :: sigh ::

Click here for Higher rez image...

OK..here's the video, sorry its pretty bad sound and audio
getting ALOT of noise through vibration to the camera..soz
will get some much better footage soon ThuD, have sent out
a message to Matt.P to see if he can make it for a ride out bush
...

The hills don't worry it as far as acceration is concerned, speed keeps climbing
I will need to take it on a 10km plus ride to guage how much more the
motor and controller are heating up, just the short 2 minutes rides
don't cut it and (tearing around the block multiple times will
certainly draw attention i think, thanks to a couple of young fellas
on dirt bikesscreaming around without helmets on the back wheel...just
awaiting Mr Plod to start doing rounds in my neighbourhood, be the day
i pop up to the shops without helmet wheelchair in tow in the middle of
the freakin road i guaren-fuckin-tee-it LoL)

Suffice to say after the ride the motor can, well, a 5 year old
girl (or hyena) could comfortably place their butt cheeks on the motor
and not cry...well, Hyena might the 5 year old would be
fine  ...the controller also, not much above ambient Todd but
yes, it wasn't pushed hard for long if i ran 10 laps around the block
accelerating to top speed up hills and out of corners im sure i could burn both motor/controller up
quite easily, but then, i could have done that before & i have popped
Lyen modified 12 Infienons going substantially
slower for less time than shown in video and let out smoke... I also
upped the Castle Creation HV160 max current setting from 160 sensitive
cuttoff to 200amp sensitive cuttoff when i downloaded the data
shall up the RC_CA current limiting to 200amp also and see how she goes...

I will stick with this sprocket, gives that lil extra top end which is nice
although reeally not needed, and the 1st gear IMO will
be the ducks nuts for towing the chair up ANY hill i encounter here...

I'll get you some better footage and data ASAP, just need another e-biker
or a mate here with ute or Van when i do, if i venture any further
than video i can't make it home un assisted, and without wheelchair its a
major problem as i am sure y'all will understand, i'm 99% sure it will be fine
but i have to think everytime i go out that it wont be or i could get stranded
and be in alot of trouble ;)

ciao for now folks...

KiM
