LightningRods mid drive, spinningmagnets' build

Oh my!...look what the cat dragged in...Wish I could work on my hobbies full-time, but I have been working lots of hours (that's a good problem, I'm not complaining).

edit: I may be over-reacting a little, but I feel compelled to state that...even though I am a writer for electricbike.com, I paid full price for this Cycle-Analyst. That fact should explain everything about how I feel about this product.

Due to unrest in China and the democratic protests, this shipment took 31 days (not Pauls fault). Many other China sellers save a few cents by using thin packing and then ignoring claims of shipping damage. Pauls packing was exceptional, just as I would do if I owned a business.

Full disclosure, I am a writer for electricbike.com, and yet I still paid full price for this battery and charger. I am a fan of em3ev.com, but not because they gave me free crap, it's because they have earned my respect over the past year from reading many posts about how they do business.

My hand, and the can of..."soda"...added for scale. How can I get 50V X 25A = 1250W of current...plus...16.5-Ah (825-WH) of range from a pack this small?

small triangle base price + 5A charger is: $585
29E cell upgrade: + $120

$705 + shipping

October in Junction City (Ft Riley, Kansas). This is the farthest west that you can find "fire maples". Army officers who were sent from the north east (New England?) brought saplings with them to beautify the barren prairie back in the 1800's. It's not actually a different species than the common maple tree, but a mutation centuries ago in the New England region resulted in maple trees that change their leaves to brilliant yellow, orange, and red in autumn.

So a max of about 48A (I can see they include a 40A BMS) Would be perfect, and considering the hassles I went through to make my own pack, well worth it I reckon.
Wouldn't have fit my full suss frame but an excellent battery regardless. Would have liked one of those.
How does the plastic cover work, is it fully sealed so if a cell dies that's it without destroying it?

So just under 2kw for the LR kit. Should be excellent even with the original top plates design.

31 days, pretty much standard China-Australia (well WA anyway in my experience) and that's a little closer than to the US right? So that doesn't seem bad for standard shipping.

It looks like a very large section of heat shrink, rubbery and thicker than average. It is definitely not water-proof. I'll be making an enclosure that is absolutely water-proof, and can take a hit if the bike crashes...

Even though I will be happy with only 50V X 25A = 1250W, I will be adding a brace for torque so the down-tube clamp isn't taking any of the twisting forces. Another project I will be working on this winter will use a 15-Ah pack with the Samsung 25R cell, which can easily provide 40A without getting hot.

If you are one of the rare hot rodders who want peaks of 40A-60A, I would actually still recommend LiPo, with many cautions to do the homework before taking the risks. I just want to show that for 25A-40A...LiPo is un-necessary. The cost difference can be made up with the em3ev pack lasting 3 years or more (the less-expensive LiPo seems to last roughly a year with frequent use).

I have written about Teklektiks Yuba Mundo, and also the Greyborg, both of which were designed with the high current and safe-chemistry Headways from the beginning. I like them, especially the pack assembly kit that allows some configuration options, but...the larger size of the cells make it awkward for fitting the average bicycle frame shape and size. I am not a fan of having the battery pack weight on the rear rack.

I have been working 12/hr days at work. I am not complaining about that, it is a "good" problem. I also spend way too much time moderating (you wouldn't think it would take up a lot of time. A big thanks to Amberwolf, who does as much of the boring mod work as the rest of us combined). I have a lot of half-finished projects, and I recently built up a $20 yard sale bike I had sitting around, with a Crystalyte 1606 that I was given, just to clear out some of my clutter.

Plus, it takes a surprisingly long amount of time to write articles for electricbike.com. I haven't been getting paid for that exactly, but electricbike.com paid for me and my wife to go to Interbike in Sept 2014 (it was a business write-off for him), so...writing for elelctricbike.com is well worth it to me. I plan to use the 29E pack for my wifes upcoming E-bike, and I am waiting for a new "small triangle" pack made from the Samsung 25R cell as my main testing pack, since it can easily put out 40A while still staying relatively cool (for a long life). Plus, it has been raining a lot (sorry, California).

Do you know the difference between me and a 2-year old? ...eventually, the 2-year old will stop whining! I still have the Lightning Rods kit, and I'm still happy I have it. Lots of good info published from other builders, so there's no pressure for me to finish this up, but I will get to it.

For the curious, watch this one minute you tube of the LR kit in action

Ah yes, the spousal excuse. Old time shop owner here is storied with his interview questions of young apprentice hopefuls (AH). He would ask are you married kid? Reply; Yes Sir. Shop owner (SO) sensing some spunk, would quickly come back with, "why would I hire you, it is like you have one hand tied behind your back". Deflating him a bit further, SO asks, do you smoke kid? AH replies more sheepishly, yes sir, I have a slight habit of a few smokes a day. S.O. quickly pounces, well now, you have both hands tied behind your back, I have not further use for you.... Unless you can free up one hand, you have a good day! Ends interview by walking out leaving the kid there to ponder a bit.

Thank you for such a great idea. I will use the template to figure out the best way to fit my lightning Rod motor as I am anxiously waiting for mine. Is there any way of purchasing a Luna Cycle. I would prefer the motor on that bike than on the Kona Ute Cargobike that I currently use.

It ran fine, but...I have no hills here...Kansas is as flat as the cheap beer I drink when I'm mowing the grass. I was happy with it, but I only have two frames, so...I pulled it off and used that frame to test other kits that needed testing (so I can write articles for some web-magazine.

It will not go to waste, I have some interesting plans for the motor, belt, and jackshaft.
