Hey LC,

You never really answered my question before... Why are you doing this the way you are doing it?

1) You want the speed cheap?
2) You like the tinkering and doing something novel?
3) You like the brushed motor?
4) Something else?

I'm keen to know, because I'm seeing all this good technical info being thrown around, but don't understand the rationale behind why.

Motorcycle speeds greatly amplify the danger!

Try to objectively assign blame to the guilty ?

Surprising how many multi-vehicle accidents were the fault of the motorcyclists. I wonder if the compilation was biased? During motorcycle training, we were told that 80% of accidents on motorcycles were the fault of a driver. Similar figures have been shown for push bikes.

The take away from that isn't that drivers are bad, or "it's not our fault" so there's nothing we can do about it. The best advice I've ever received is "Don't ride like driver's can't see you. Ride like drivers are trying to hit you."

In one case, it was true. A guy was actively trying to run me off the road. He was pissed that I was doing the speed limit, when he wanted to go faster, so he lane split to pass me, slowed down to match my speed, then started drifting left to force me into the gutter. That was the days before Go-Pros, or I could have got him done for malicious driving. There was no way that it was a "Sorry Mate, Didn't See You There" moment.

IMO
Most were the fault of the motorcyclists ...
If not fully, the excessive speed and squeezing past stopped or slow vehicles were major contributing factors!

In that video, no argument there.

I just don't think it reflects the reality though. Although, if you take into account contributory negligence, then I suspect there would be very few faultless riders. Like a rider t-bones a car coming out of an intersection. Legally it's recorder as the car's fault, but if there was an opportunity to bet if the driver just misjudged the rider's speed, because the rider was doing 20-30km/h faster than the limit, then I'd bet that did happen.

Have been a witness to that too: Two lane traffic. I'm in the right lane stopped at a lights, motorcycle in the left. 200m ahead, there's a T junction - The driver sees me taking off at a normal pace and judges it safe to cross. Motorcycle blows past me on the left lane - wasn't visible to the other drive, and bam into the side. (Keep in mind I'm in Australia when trying to visualise which side of the road everyone was on).

As the Hub Motor Turns and the Lipo Fire Burns.

The chopper went back to the guy who bought it. The guy who I painted for. I got $45. I needed the money. It made no sense to be broke for something I did not need. Four bikes are enough. The thing would have sat for months and been constantly in the way.

My idea of a chopper was a low profile one. Forks only slightly extended, not 5 feet long. . Maybe a 24" frame with a 20" front wheel. Chrome dipped and the forks extended a few inches. To be honest I did not even like the color of it. If I kept it I would have painted it blue or black. Maroon is my least favorite color.

I am sure I will see it around probably with a gas motor on it. That’s what he said he was going to do. I look forwards to blowing the piece of shit off the road with electric. I don’t care if I have to get a 10 kilowatt golden motor to do it.

I just got back from the doctors. The blood work did not go well. Low hormones. The pititority and hypothermis glands that produce FSH and LH. I will need to see a specialist. He is talking about possible a brain tumor or cancer. I also got my mental health records back to the early 80s. Needless to say it was a big stack of papers.

9/1
I get my SSI hearing on the 25th. If I get denied I’ll fire my lawyer. I hope I don’t go after the judge! The doctor stated I can’t work and need tests for low hormones. That makes 4 doctors saying I can’t work. Knee, Back and heart surgery and possible brain surgery now will be required to fix me. I need my disability! It is my money and I want it now!

I got the bike and all my parts back. I checked the work Randy did installing that bolt on sprocket. It won’t work as the video MOV1 shows. Picture 01 shows where he bolted it to the hub. All I know am I take back whatever I said about him having mechanical skills I guess the 80 tooth on the back is my only option.

Picture 04 shows how it will look when I get zip ties to mount that half a basket that was mounted to the back. That will hide the motor and most of the wires. Pictures 05 and 06 show the brake calipers mounted where they should be.

The mag rims I got from Doug might save the day. I bolted it on The 80 tooth. It will be great on hills. See MOV2. Much better than MOV1. I will still get about 26mph when I upgrade to 48V. It is easier to line up the sprockets with a rear wheel set up also. I really hope it works. Mike and his brother ED will finish the job hopefully.

10 hours later.
The controller and front basket are mounted. I tested the motor and got it spinning in the right direction. Picture 01 and 02 shows my work. There are only two bolts holding the motor. The other two will be drilled tomorrow when the chain gets hooked up.

9/2
Mike and Ed worked on the bike. The tires and tubes are on. They hooked up the chain but it popped off first try on takeoff. I paid them $20 and had a cookout and my bike still doesn’t run. These guys are supposed to be experts!

I tested the Cantilever brakes on the Magna going down Crane St. hill; one of the steepest hills in the city. At least 35 degrees for a quarter mile + some if I were to guess. It passed the test with no problem.

I took the Currie down that hill about two years ago and almost killed myself at the bottom. A car in front of me was doing at least 50 mph coming off an exit ramp with no turn signal. I misjudged his speed crossing the intersection and speeded up to avoid being hit if he turned left and dumped the bike on the sidewalk on the other side. I got scraped up a bit but the guy behind the wheel was driving like an idiot.

9/3
I moved the motor up towards the seat more and there is room for a small basket behind the motor now. I also moved the braces back farther for better support and added bolts in the center of the braces. I also ran one thru the seat post to keep it from turning.

I have no idea if it will ever run. Five mechanics and I have failed miserably and no bike shop will touch it. By moving the motor forward it may be possible to tighten up the chain by pulling backward on the rear wheel. It would not work when the motor was over the wheel sprocket. That was another reason for moving the motor. It was impossible to get the chain tight.

No more pictures or videos are possible. My old PC. With the software to convert and edit is shot. It was a vista machine. I got win 7 but no internet or software. Photo suite only runs 32 bit and that’s all I use so I am screwed out of that too.

My next move will be to order a 62 tooth sprocket that screws on where the free wheel goes. Monster scooter parts make them... If you guys could let me know if it will screw on to my mag rims please let me know so I can order it. If that don’t work then I will get a brand new rear rim. I am not giving up.

I am also thinking about extending the handlebars and raising the seat. See pic extension. The purple is the extensions. I should be able to get steel elbows and drill holes and run bolts. The rest should screw together. I will check the plumbing section. I will remove the seat and put a piece of pipe over it and drill bolts for that also.

MOV3 shows the kind of brake levers I don’t want! They are on the Currie. I plan on throwing them out and replacing them when I put a motor back on it. I would not give them to my worst enemy. Thanks.

On page 77 at the top of the page I posted a video stairs. Sunder that should answer your question why a 20" bike. My back was not hurting that day. Also I have came home drunk and almost fell backwards down the stairs with a heavy 16" mountain bike on top of me. It is why I took the motor off the Currie and why I only ride the Schwinn with the front kit when I have to. The landlady wont let me keep it in the hall down stairs as she says it is a fire hazard blocking the stairs. There is no second exit and we will have to jump off the roof if a fire blocks our only exit. As soon as I get my money we will move to a first floor house or apartment. Thanks DA for the sprocket links. I would like to see a video on how to install it before ordering it.

I am going to look up the low hormone condition I have. I have not had a chance to do so and still don't have an appointment with a specialist to see weather I am going to die of a tumor or cancer.

I got two pieces of chain. They too short. I tried combining them with no luck. I may need to order more of that and master links if I cant get someone to help me out and hook it up. Thanks.

I looked it up. I will need to do more research. Electric bikes will have to wait. Thanks. LC. out.

endocrinologist

That is the correct spelling of the specialist I will need to go to. Not only that but next month it will be a year since I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH AN ENLARGED HEART VALVE. I am not scared of much but dyeing is one of them. I do not wish to embrace my mortality. I saw my father die and will never forget it. He had throat cancer. Thanks.

I guess drinking is a cause. In this case I hope its true. It is better than a tumor or something worse. I can just use the gel like I was and go to the gym and call it a day. If anyone knows anything about this please let me know. Thanks.

Hey LC,

Sorry to hear about ongoing health conditions. Some recent incidents in my life has reminded me to look after my health. I've lost 2.2kg in the past month - another 5.8 to go. Haven't had my blood test done, but I hope my cholesterol and C-RAP are down. Last time I checked, they weren't a serious problem, but unusually high for my age. I guess exercise doesn't fully compensate for the high stress, and crap I eat when I'm stressed. Funny thing is, I don't fear death. I fear living with a crap quality of life. A stroke making me unable to move or talk clearly. Heart issues meaning I can't enjoy a ride or a long walk. If I'm dead, I'm dead. I know where I'm going, even if most people think I'm an idiot for believing so.

I feel for you trying to get the SSI payout, but if it helps, it's understandable why they make it so hard. A friend of mine used to work for an insurance company's assessment centre - All her clients had been paid out by the insurance company at least once, but claimed they were still unable to work after an injury or were trying to get a temporary disability classified as permanent and the insurance company had to decide whether to pay more or fight it. She said while some were genuine, about 7-8 out of 10 were just trying to scam more money and had gone doctor shopping until they found a doctor who was conned by their act. She told me about some examples of clients coming in in wheel chairs or using crutches, and she's got videos from a private detective showing one guy digging up his garden a couple days earlier, and a woman carrying her weekly shopping home, claiming she was unable to walk without assistance.

Basically, you should be pissed at the scammers, not at the judge, because it means genuine cases like you get a really hard time at hearings.

Thanks Sunder. I am still waiting on a specialist. I have had no luck with the bike. The cheap #25 chain keeps popping off because the wheel is slightly bent. I will need a brand new rim and a standard bike chain motor and wheel sprocket that screws on where the freewheel goes. Also a belt drive or friction drive set up could be an option if it would be cheaper that getting a new rim and sprockets to fit a standard bike chain. I am done with thin #25 chain. The screw on 80 tooth and thin chain worked for the Currie but is useless in this build.

I am researching the parts needed for a belt drive. What is the number for standard mountain bike chain? The chain they sell at Wall-Mart. Also where do I order the parts for a belt drive set up? I will decide which way to go based on cost and feed back from you guys. Anyone who reads this please post when you can. My internet time is very limited. The library was closed for the holidays. That is why I have not posted. Links for parts will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Look into the spoke mount sprocket, such are as used with the gas bike kits.
No dbl freewheel hub needed!!!

I can pedal and run the motor with this? I will need it in standard bike chain. If a chain breaks I want be be able to replace it at Wall-Mart or any bike shop. Not have to order it online.I am Done with thin cheap #25 chain.

I do remember what has been posted. I would like to try that. If it is not expensive or cheaper than ordering a new rim and motor and wheel sprocket for a standard bike chain then I want to do it. Please let me know. I will study the post with the little time I have left. Please let me know. Thanks.

I sent LiveForPhysics a PM. I asked him if he had any more videos of the Death bike. I told him he could post them on the DC motors over 10 killowatts. I thought it would be the proper place for him to post any new videos if he has any. I am letting you all know if you are interested where to look. Thanks. I hope to hear from you guys.

I posted pictures and links before to lowracer's belt drives here. They're like Golden Eagle bike engines so it's a design known to work.

I looked under mount kits only and it said $375. I got to get it for about 1/10 th that. I don't have much money.

You don't buy a $375 kit from Golden Eagle. You do it like lowracer and find another rim to use as a pulley and then you epoxy and bolt it side by side to your existing rim.

The part for the motor I will need and a 12" rim or smaller to attach to the 20" wheel. It is way beyond my skill level. The sprocket calculator wont work for a belt drive. First I need to know what size rim to bolt to the 20" rim for approximate 30mph with my 3,000rpm 1,000W motor. Then I need the part to replace my motor sprocket for the belt. Then I would be willing to send someone money to attach the rim to my 20" wheel as it is beyond my capability. My 20" rim is slightly bent. Mabye it would not matter as the belt cant slip off but the spokes could be tightened and the wheel straightened out a bit. I would pay to have the wheel set up if it is not too much . I should be able to bolt on the thing to the motor myself.
