With a small motor and batteries you'll have to lose about 200lb to fit the 100lb weight limit ...

Basically for less than $80 I can get a brand new 20" BMX bike. $50 for a $500W 24V motor $15 for a controller, $20 for a wheel sprocket and $5 for the 2 by 4 and nuts and bolts. and I have an e bike for about $170 + batteries. Two 10Ah SLAs are about $30 so I have a perfect running e bike for about $200. They should sell like hotcakes for $300 easily.

Do they come with a tail light warranty? "Product warranted as long as I can see your tail light - after that, you're on your own".

What happens if one of your no-solder join breaks, the bike loses power halfway through an intersection, and the rider gets cleaned up by a cement truck? Jury finds manufacturer is liable, and you have a lawsuit on your hands?

It's one of the busier times of year, and my wife has started work again. Have been flat out, and there's still bike stuff I want to do that I don't have time to.

1. Put a BMS on my 12S and 16S packs, and try to get them into nicer battery boxes.
2. Bump up the limit of my controller from 800w to 1000w - maybe even 1200w with oil cooling
3. True the wheel of my daily commuter and figure out why it doesn't sit straight.
4. Attach the baby trailer, so I can stop dropping my kids off in the car and use the bike
5. Convert the Mac 8T to the new plug system I have so I have a spare

If you have some spare time, and can use some of that genius, would you mind dropping over and lending me a hand?

I would help Sunder but unfortunately I'm not in Australia. You are still there right? I know you said something about moving to the UK.

I am not totally sure of the model of the bike DA. I think it said Kent but am not sure. I could get a heavy duty 20" frame I guess. I know I will at least need a front tire that is not as wide as the one on there now as the chain did hit the tire a few times today. I just get tired of reinstalling motors all the time.

Another thing is the triangle is too small to install a rack on the red bike. Weight distribution is ok with two SLAs in the back and the motor on the front. With six SLAs in the back I can wrap the chain and padlock around the frame towards the front but a triangle rack will be in the way of the pedals.

I call the red bike the sidewalk special as it has a pot which is good for low speeds (1 to 5mph) like those power chairs that disabled people commute with. The sidewalks are broken up with a lot of bad sections so the low speed is good to have. it is easier than a throttle and sometimes on narrow streets and heavy traffic the sidewalk is the only safe option.

The kent was a girls bike I just looked it up so I am not getting that. I am researching the strength of BMX bikes. I know Doug had a white Haro Mirra which was very heavy duty but I think he wanted $120 for it. The red bike is heavy duty enough. It is a steel Mongoose frame.

I guess the red bike wont work for cargo however the 24" bike will when I run the new LIPO packs in the front basket there will still be room for cargo in the front and the rear basket will be empty. :wink: Not sure I may still use the triangle rack on the 24" bike with the LIPOs and the power bolts. Then both baskets will be completely empty for lots of cargo. Thanks for posting guys.

I wouldn't trust JB-Weld used in that way for any extended period of time. It is essentially glue, and 10 miles is not very far. Would think a machine shop could do the necessary work cheap.

I would suggest at this point that you get some scrap wire, and solder, and practice till you get good at it, then clean up your connection problems, likely need to get some pre-made connectors with pigtails so you can solder and shrink-wrap everything. Speed, range, reliability, battery life all to be improved for little money invested. Get advice on proper connector scheme and wires before proceeding. CTF man, cheap to free, I'm all over that.

I know what you are saying but don't see how a machine shop can make a dual D bore out of that 9 tooth as it is 11mm and the dual D bore it requires for a perfect fit is 10mm. I Did not have a bit of trouble with the one I already did. The 9 tooth however is significantly smaller and I will need to grind the teeth down on the 11T #25 sprocket before applying the JB weld and putting them together. It is worth a try as I have spent hours searching for the correct one and did not find it.

Frankly I am a little embarrassed that I cut up all those bullet connecters Dan sent about two years ago. I made foolish mistakes back then; The packs were a little unbalanced. Dan sent them wrapped in pairs and each pair was balanced but I let them sit around for a few months and then tried to run them without balance charging first. There was enough difference between packs that I got a huge spark and melted one of the plugs coming off one of the packs. I repeated the same mistake as I was not really ready for Lipos at that time.

Now is a different story as even though my charging method with the cash box and ice cube trays using bolts for terminals I have learned to properly balance charge Lipo batteries and have a pre hook up cable with two 10 ohm resisters. My choice of 4mm bullet plugs is basically I can make a pre hook up cable and bullet plugs easily split so I can hook them up the same exact way I have been doing with the terminals.

When I run them I make sure the controller is off and use the pre hook up cable with the clips and touch the terminals then make the series connection. I then repeat that process with the negative and positive to the controller then turn it on and run. For charging I turn the charger on. Plug in the balance cable then connect the alligator clip to the negative terminal and plug the banana plug in the charger. Then do the same thing with the positive. Sometimes I get a little spark when I plug the positive in the charger but it is no big deal. I don't use the pre hook up to charge.

I have been doing so for almost two years now and when I got the new Lipo packs I realized that I can do the same exact things with the bullet connectors. I am even going to use bullets with the SLAs now and am combining six SLAs into two packs for 24V@30Ah. I am physically putting three together with heavy duty Gorilla tape before making the connections to bullet plugs. I have enough bullets coming to make the diagram work. The picture under the diagram is the only bullets left from the ones Dan sent except for the ones I used in the cash box to plug into the packs , the other ends hooked up to the bolts. I will need a three pack for them. I guess I may as well order it now.

Also on the to do list is a new tire on the front of the red bike a little narrower as I suspect the chain may be hitting the tire sometimes and the last thing I want to do is have the chain come off downtown or at Wall-Mart. When I go see Doug I hope to get the right size brake cable for the red bike. The one for the front brake is about two feet too long. After those modifications are done and the 9T is on the 24" bike then I can look into speedometers and some top speed videos. Thanks and keep posting please.

Other good news is I loosened up the U bolts and think I tapped the motor over another 1/8" or at least 1/16" then tightened them back down so I don't think I have to do anything with it until I get a flat tire. Basically I have had a lot to say negative about past venders I have ordered from for various reasons.

This time however it is all positive. Two days or less than 48 hours and he was even smart enough to combine both orders into a single package. I ordered 10 and a separate order for three.

If ANYONE in the Northeast US especially needs anything from this vender dont be afraid to order it. I am not sure about cross country shipping or out of country but am pretty sure if you contact him his ETA should be accurate or even sooner than his quote. It said 4 days when I placed my order and it was within two days or less than 48 hours. I guess it will soon be time to break out the new soldering iron. At least I was smart enough to get bullets with wires already attached. I will post pictures of the results. I want to make sure I have enough shrink wrap so will be picking up extra tonight. Surprised they don't have XT90s in there. Unless space is an issue, the bigger the connector, the longer they last - especially when dealing with electrical arcing, like we get on e-Bikes. I think Anderson Powerpoles PP45s for example, are rated at 250 hot plug cycles at 72v. That means every time you see that big spark on connection, a tiny bit of the connector wears away. After a while, they connector is no longer reliable. I had that happen once - took over a year to do it, but after that, I had to jiggle my connector to make it contact sometimes, and going over bumps, I could randomly lose power.

Anyway, why Bullet Connectors, when there are so many other better ones? Just because you want to minimise soldering?

A little patience, a lot of practice, and you can get pretty good pretty fast if it's just wires and connectors you're soldering.

I meant arcing when connecting the power, not between terminals on the same side.

Have you built a pre-hookup cable? Have thought about doing one for my build, but since XT?? plugs are meant to be spark shielding anyway, and I can't see much pitting even after half a year, I don't think I could be bothered - or at least it's well down on my priority list.

I don't like sparks and am scared of electricity. If it were not for DA telling my about pre-hook up cables I could never got over my fear of LIPO.
After burning two bullet plugs I switched to alligator clips but since I can do the same thing with bullet plugs I figured why not utilize the superior connection for better current flow. Also bullet plugs are insulated and alligator clips can come unhooked and possibly cause a dead short resulting in a disaster. Thanks for posting. I hope you guys watched my latest video. thanks.

reinstalling the motor on the red bike. I was kind of winging it before. the motor was crooked. Taking my time now. Got kiln dried two by four yesterday. Looked at pressure treated but kiln dried looks more dense. No splits or many knots. I got washers also so I can extend the wheel sprocket out away from the tire. Looking for perfection. I wish someone would post.

The chain was too close to the tire so with extra washers I can move the sprocket out about 1/4" also so not only will the sprockets be lined up better but the chain wont rub against the tire. Not that anybody really cares as nobody wants to post anymore.

If anyone is reading this though once I get the red bike 100% I will combine the SLAs with bullet plugs for two 12V 30Ah packs.

After that is all set I will solder the bullet plugs to the new LIPO packs then grind down that 9T motor sprocket and install that on the 24" bike so it is properly geared. Final brake adjustments on both bikes will make two fully functional electric bikes properly geared. Thanks.

You can see the butcher job I did on the first piece of wood. It was crooked and a wonder it lasted as long as it did. My first time doing it that exact way so i have as many attempts as needed to get it perfect. Wood is cheap. About $3 and change for an 8 foot piece.

Basically carving wood has been an art for so many years and basically is a main part of this unique way to mount a motor. Both unmatched in their simplicity.

Not everything about e bike building has to be complicated just done properly. Just like the spoke sprocket. It is a simple design. not complicated like planetary gear reduction or mid drive units.

I went on Facebook. Kind of complicated but found my X girlfriend. 19 years ago. I sent a friend request but it got complicated right off the bat. She had a stroke and is in a health care facility from what I hear. she typed the stroke part. Or someone did for her. Not sure. I am not familiar with the calling up on Facebook. I don't have a webcam or microphone. I only know she befriended me and called about 20 times but when I play it back get nothing but background. She did say Where are you. and I heard nurses I think she said earring. I typed a lot of positive stuff and told her she is in my prayers and I will be her friend and hope she gets better.

It is not easy being LC. I am not taking it well. She is my soulmate. But she was a cheater! Never got over her. I had three other women who wanted me exclusively at the time. I know it is difficult to believe seeing my pictures but just about every women I have been with has wanted me back desperately. including my son Jessie's mother Lillian. My first girlfriend. Brenda was second. The one on Facebook now. It definitely was not my looks or money as I never and still don"t have either.

It has to be the bad boy image. I posted the clobbering time photo on there. I beat up a couple of her x boyfriends in front of her at the time one of them that hit her and called her a slut in the bar.and another that stole her money I almost took the guys head off and nearly drove a Chevy thru the bar and pulled a tire iron on two of the bouncers with Death Angel Frolic thru the park on the radio. My friend brought her out and a week later beat her other boyfriend up that robbed her and made the mistake of calling me outside in another bar a half a mile down the road. It was just normal LC stuff for 1990/90s.

The best one was in Kingston NY in 97. I was with the ol lady I am with now. Mary. Straight out of a trailer park. :lol: A police car parked and the two town clowns got out and walked down the street. Then this older drunk dude who knew the ol ladies dead husband showed up. She told me to stand back and she would handle it. I was by a wall drinking a 40 with her x boyfriend who introduced us a couple of months before. The dude raised his voice and waved his finger towards her face. I kicked the dude in the chest and he landed on the hood of the cop car where I proceeded to beat him up. He slid off the other side saying I was going to jail. I gave the dude a couple more good shots to the head and we took off as the cops were on their way back but with no clue what had taken place. The x boyfriend was gone as soon as the shit broke out. :lol: :lol: :lol:

Anyways if anybody reads this it is not about me it is about Brenda and if anyone is religious please pray for Brenda whether you like me or not. Thanks guys for answering my messages. It's cool and know you guys are busy. Dan I don't know why I am nervous or scared of electricity. Kind of like I don't know why some people are scared of the dark or the water.Or Spiders or anything people are scared of. most everybody is scared of something.

One thing I have learned here is patience. Back when I was in school I loved shop class but hated that it would end before finishing my project. Kind of the opposite of ADD.(Attention deficit disorder) I was one track minded and just wanted to keep going until it was done. Looking at the difference in quality of work with the first motor mount compared to the second Proves the difference in quality if patience is factored into the equation. The pictures I posted today.

I was a blithering idiot for cutting the plugs up you sent me with the Lipos. I admit it and apologize. I ended up ordering bullets anyway.
However I am trying to overcome the fear and am at least on the right track with LIPO vs SLA. For that I thank you guys especially Dan and DA for the patience, support and SLAs. If it was not for Sunder however I would still not have a reliable and pretty close to perfect e bike with the hub Motor on the Schwinn.. You guys are my friends. That"s why I asked you to post.

I know I am stubborn,headstrong and talk a lot of shit. Sorry about that. I also got plans to solder. My brother Cory gave me a 50 foot extension cord with a box and 4 plug ins. I want to do it outside with a 12" fan. I got a wicked headache trying that shit inside. Like I stated. My old apartment had a full basement. This one bed on floor 2 cramps my style major. I built 110 gallon tanks out of plywood and Plexiglas back then. Now I cant even run an electric drill after 8 PM. With patience however I am succeeding with both builds. The brakes and gearing will be semi professional or proper as DA says. I will make the 9 tooth work and the 24" build will be a solid cargo and fast bike at approx. 30 mph. The red bike is geared at 20 mph and will run 30 Ah SLAs. Without you three as my friends It would not have been possible. Thanks.

Did you notice the 12v battery? See it doesn't need to be LiPo, it doesn't matter. If you short out SLAs they will spark big time too.

as for your 50ft extension cord. I don't recommend it, the voltage to the iron will be lower and there for lower temp of the iron. Just use a fan to suck the fumes away not directly on the place you are soldering. I can see a big difference when I solder larger items if I put the ceiling fan on. That is with a 80w Hakko, not cheap. Open the window and suck the fumes out.

I got the wheel sprocket reinstalled. Not sure if it will work or not.I will find out tomorrow or Wednesday when I put the motor back on. The washers worked but not sure if it is as good as it was before. if it wont work I will need another spoke kit. I am going to check for gearing. It wont work. They don't make an 80T spoke sprocket for #415 chain.

I will check for 8 mm chain. I just hope I can make what I got work. I don't want to order more parts.

Electric scooter parts makes a 10 T 8 mm motor sprocket. Dual D bore.
They also make a 72 T that bolts to the freewheel. I would need a 20" rear freewheel tire to fit on the front if what I am trying to do don't work.
I will have to buy an 8 MM motor and wheel sprocket as well as 8 mm chain.

I really hope I can get it going like it is. If not I am looking at next month for all that. Thanks.

Just got back from Albany. That pretty much describes Brenda exactly. 20 years ago. :lol: Not now though. she cant drink anymore. She suffered a stroke but is recovering. She has a power wheelchair she plugs into the wall in her room. She Will be 54 in a few days. I was glad I could bring a little joy into her heart. She really did miss me after almost 20 years. I just want to keep it as good friends. I am sure she wants more but think she knows it is not possible due to major health issues. She has a smart phone or something to get online but only one hand to use it. I want to get her a laptop with speech recognition. I am not software savvy. DA Do you know what is the best program for that. Please let me know.

I walked about 5 miles altogether today. I saw a cool e bike in Albany. It was a hub motor. It could have been a newer Currie but not sure. I was wondering about the new laws on e bikes. DA said something about it. I also heard something about it from someone on the street or on a bus or somewhere that they are 100% legal now in NY state. If that is the case then there should be e bike shops opening up. That would be cool. Please let me know.

If it is nice out tomorrow I can do that soldering outside. The outdoor power cord is super heavy duty. I don't see why it would not work. I did not trust the plug that was on it so I put a better one on when he gave it to me. I already used it outside with a Skill saw so I know it will work for a soldering iron.
