New "TSDZ2 Torque Sensor Central Motor"

Please input on use of Gear Sensor?

What is your opinion on using the Gear Sensor with the TSDZ2?  I have one installed and I find that when I climb hills, and shift, the motor cuts off, and then takes a bit of time to ramp back up again giving me assist. Kind of 'jerky' but I'm under the belief this is better for chain life.

What do experienced users think? Thank you
I find I have better rhythm than that. I don't use a sensor, and have 1500 miles on my current 9 speed chain without any measurable chain stretch yet..ymmv

**** HELP Please ****
Just finished a new install of a TSDZ2 with the 850C display and OSF. I cannot get it to turn on. I checked and I have the correct power from the battery to the motor connection but cannot get anything on the display. Any help would be great.

Brandon
The on off button connects via a cable to the display. Have you checked that cable? Do you have a multimeter to check if voltage is present on the p+ pin on the cable from the motor to the display?

Just my luck, after 800km+ my year old tsdz2 packed up. I left it parked at work, when i went back after a few hours i find the display on, with all leds lit up.

i tried switching off, with no success, so i removed battery. I charged battery (i thought it was around 20% full, but could not check) and left bike off without charge overnight, hoping this would hard reset the display and controller.

Unfortunately, no luck: display is still the same, and motor is not doing anything

i have a 36v 350w motor, with a VLCD5 display.
Would you think it is the display or the controller? Shipping to my country is slow, but cannot afford buying both just in case

If i change display, and get the Bafang 850c would it work without updating to the opensource firmware?

Thanks

stephen
Any water get on the display? I've seen the display do stuff like that after it got wet. I wouldn't replace the display just on that, though. But given both motor and display got wet, I'd start with the display as the potential problem first

Thanks. It had rained a bit the day before, i will open up display to check if there is any moisture.

If i have to change display, couldni use the bafang 850c? Without updating firmware to opensource?

Bafang 850c don't work without updating to the opensource firmware. You should do that, you get "new" motor after doing it.

Yeah the bafang 850c won’t work with the tadz2 out of the box, even with the motor on stock firmware. You need a special version of the stock firmware for the display to work with the stock tsdz2, and you need the OSF on both devices for them to work together.

Help please. Just installed the v6.8 software for an 850 display. Looks awesome. Is there a button combination to get into the configuration settings?
Thanks
I have the same question. I downloaded the source and looking at line 220 of mainscreen-850.c and lines 745 to 760 of mainscreen.c, it looks like a short press of the power button should toggle between the normal display, the config screen, and a 3rd optional screen that is now null. Mine toggles through 3 renditions of the main screen. Going to keep looking, but an answer would be great! My Linux box is at work, but I may get it and re-build from source to make sure the bootloader bin matches the source. Wouldn't think that would be the problem, but haven't seen anything pointing at something else yet.

I miss short press, long press. Took a bit to figure out short meant short, but then no problem with that sequence for me.

I think I read earlier in the thread that you now have to press all three buttons at once to get the menu. This is done because the mechanics to detect the long vs short press has the side effect of making the menu navigation not very responsive. Can’t find the post though.

Just tried it and that's it. Thanks!!

Ok I checked and there is full battery power at the p+ pin.

What's the difference between P850C, 850C, and 860C?

Does the firmware upgrade only work on the 850C?

Are there different sub versions of the 850C? If yes how do I specify the specific model / version that accepts the new firmware?

Thanks

I successfully flashed a P850C last week, no problem. I think the P850C is just a 850C with a different “skin” and colors in the UI. I suspect it’s the same hardware just a different software look. I don’t know about the 860C.

Who is selling the 850C bootloader box? Eco-cycles is out of stock.

Thanks Rick

850C control button? How many wires are in the 850C control button bundle (the wire bundle that goes from the display to control buttons)?

I'm asking because I will need to make the wire bundle longer to mount the control button on my "dropped bars" (road bike style).

Thanks
Rick

The shift sensor isn't really needed on a PAS bike because if you back off on the pedals when you shift it reduces torque automatically. This will avoid the delay for power to resume. On something like a 1500W BBSHD in the mid and higher assist levels things start to get crunchy if you don't have one. Even then I don't use one. I just use the throttle for the for higher power levels and lift off when I shift that way. If you don't shift a car at full throttle why would you do it on a bike?

Does anyone have any recommendations for bigger chain rings (available in the UK)? I'd like to swap out the default one for something larger as I find I spend all my time in the 11t cog at the rear and it wears out in about 800 miles as I have a heavy cargo bike usually riding with my two kids.

If you use 42x11 on your cargo bike all the time it is kind of logical that it wares out very quickly.
Assuming that you aren't going much faster than 15mph, the rotation speed is way too low causing premature ware of the drive train.
Your motor will also suffer a lot and probably won't last very long.
It has a negative influence on your battery life as at low rotation speed the efficiency is quite low.

Typically we're going more like 20mph as it is very flat here. Often I'm spinning out and can't go faster (not that I want to it's a perfect speed most of the time)

Ah I see, you've got a 20" back wheel.
Maybe you could try a sram dual drive hub.
This has direct drive on 2nd, positive (136%) demultiplication on 1st and negative (73%) on 3rd if I remember correctly.
