VESC based INNOTRACE M620 Simple motor controller

It seems like an amazing work here. I ride since 2022 the first innotrace controllers but have problems with newer torque sensor. So I am pretty interesting in getting a new controller. So I have to buy m620 CAN version and can decide to build the Vesc controller or the shrimp Vesc controller? Did anyone have simelar plans ? Best would be to buy an rdy to mount controller as I am not a good solder expert( Basic soldering is no problem)
 
If you have an M620 UART motor you can convert it to CAN version purchasing a CAN torque sensor, a CAN motor harness, CAN cables, CAN speed sensor and a CAN display so you can save some money not purchasing completely new motor.
If you want to use M620 motor you do not need Shrimp controller, this M620 CAN Simple controller is the cheapest and easiest.

Shrimp can work with M620 UART torque sensor but you still need other components to be CAN (display, motor harness, speed sensor, cables), and there is no firmware with fixed impact wrench from stand still on throttle effect for that configuration, and brake cut off is not realized in firmware for UART version. So if this is something bothers you then you better stick with M620 CAN Simple controller, except you want to fix the impact wrench effect of the VESC firmware version for analogue UART torque sensor and implement brake cut off feature in the firmware.

The Bluetooth dongle and ST-Link V2 programmer leads have arrived!

The Bluetooth dongle is compatible with nrf51_vesc ecosystem Makerbase MKS ESC_BT V1.0


The 28AWG leads with connector for ST-Link V2 programmer on the controller side are 7 pins JST GH 1.25


You can crimp that cable leads with this 10 pin 2x5P 2.54mm pitch connector fits ST-Link V2 programmer connector


Here are the terminals for this connector fit 28AWG wires

Here is how you can make a cheap cable for flashing the firmware.

Remove the unused wires from the GH 1.25 plug

Trim the opposite end of the cable

Cut the terminals off the sprue

Insert the terminals into the plug matching the pinout to the ST Link V2

I tested a Spintend Bluetooth dongle with this controller and that dongle does not work with this controller for some reason. I tried to connect it to 3.3V and to 5V, also tried to swap the Tx and Rx pins. It is either gives "could not read firmware version" in the VESC Tool application after trying to connect to it or it does not connect at all. Maybe it is because of I used ST Link V2 dongle for 3.3V and 5V power and it needs battery connected, or maybe it is VESC firmware issue. The Spinted Bluetooth dongle does work with the Spinted controller connected to a battery though.

So to be safe do not use just any random Bluetooth dongle, use the same Makerbase MKS ESC_BT V1.0 works for me

I also had issues with the Spintend one for some reason, it connects initially and when disconnected I couldn't reconnect without power cycling everything 🤷‍♂️
