4 years, and 3000+ miles later...

Hello all, have not been here in a while! It is now the 5th summer with my ebike build and it's still kicking! same Calibike 15AH 48v battery!. The top speed is now only 28mph, down from 29/30. And the range (using all throttle [no pas installed]) - until a noticable loss of umph, is...

2+ years and 2500 miles later...

    Loving this

Here's my latest 'map my ride' http://www.mapmyride.com/workout/1014563701 A breezy, exhilarating, exploratory, run across town, with a stop for some frozen yogurt. The Erie Canal trail, is a local treasure. I would never have known without this bike. Or the help I got from the members...

    A more progressive throttle

Hi all. Pretty simple and straight forward here I think. My kit's twist throttle is rather abrupt in its power delivery. Is there a source for an inexpensive twist throttle that work's a little more smooth? Thanks!

Phew, just a fuse. leading to con-fuse-ion.

I had some trouble on my 3 mile ride this AM. I started with what should have been a fully charged battery (Calibike 48v 15AH). Bike ran fine until the end, when It was suddenly out of juice. Red light on bottom of hand throttle blinking. When I got back home (pedaling only).. I checked...

    Rim Tape advice...

What should I use for rim tape. Sure enough, my rim didn't come with rim tape. Got lucky, since the tire went flat while the bike was loaded in the car, on the ride home. (You guys were right, check before assembling!) So, since I'm removing the quirky roadbike tire it came with, I...

    In a perfect world...

I was lamenting the fact that, a ride that would really save me some gas $$, is a 28 mile stretch, that is probably outside the range of my battery, weight, terrain, ect. Checking out the route on the map, I spotted a possible solution to the problem... charge halfway at a park pavillion...

Proper battery use and care... (lipo)

So, now that I'm getting into a routine of using my bike, (specs below in sig.) One thing I wish my battery would have come with is a little paper with some "proper use and care" tip's. Currently I recharge my battery after every ride. So far my longest ride has been 6.6 miles and recharge...

    Replacing freewheel... double washers?

Hello all.. I just went to install a new freewheel onto my hub and encountered a problem... First my Freewheel removal tool wont fit over the axle shaft. Seems I'll have to remove the axle first.. So I found a good description of how to take apart the hub...

    Bad Freewheel or Hub?

I was just out enjoying my ebike even though it was cold rather out. Seems that the loud click coming from the rear hub or freewheel, has turned into a full slipping freewheel. This loud click is not the normal ticking of the freewheel. My hub did it since I first tested it out...it's gets...

    My Newbie moment of truth...

Well... Fedex came through, and got my battery to a local p/u location today. I've had it for a few hours now. Put it on the charger until the green light came on.. I mounted it all on my bike. Fit inside the triangle is good. Velcro seems sturdy enough. No where to mount controller...

Now the Math: Ebike vs. Aveo.

My recent investment into my Ebike kit... 48v 1000 watt Whl kit + 48v batt = $750, would really make economic sense if I had a truck or a big gas guzzler car to be replaced by it. But it's replacing a pretty miserly Chevy Aveo that get's on average 30mpg everywhere... I use $85 in gas...

Battery and Controller in same triangle bag.

Are there any heat related, or other issues I should be concerned with , storing my controller in the same triangle pack bag as the battery? I haven't recieved it yet,..5 days away... the ad says the bag has room for a 'small' controller, so I suppose this means I should be ok... Thanks.

my 48/1000 wheel kit showed up. Rr whl binding (solved)

Please skip down...towards the bottom of page. And Fast too! ($205 from NJ) I ordered it on Wednesday, and got it by Friday! But of course, It could have taken all week since the battery is probably a week away. The box wasn't in great shape and I feared that the rim was bent at first...

    "BMS set for 1200W" ?

Hello all...I have one last hang-up before I purchase a high quality lifepo4 48v 20ah battery. It says (BMS set for 1200W) in the listing next to it's rated amperage listing of 30A, any trouble with using this on a 1000 watt hub...

    DownGrading a controller...

I've realized, a bit late ( 48v 1000w hub, kit on order) that the proper battery (48v battery 20ah) is a little out of my reach right now...($450 shipped to my door, no additional fee's). But I read a tip on here, that I could possibly downgrade my controller to a 20a one start with, and run...

    sourcing a 48v20ah or High C 48v 15ah for $450 shipped.

This thread was..."need guidance, 48v 15ah 700w battery match-up". Well, now that I got that cleared up, I changed the thread title to reflect what the thread has become. As even larger batteries become available, maybe the price will come down into my range for the 48/20's ...
