Custom Build... 2 Speed H.O.B.O Powered e-Cruiser

Bluefang, Jeremy Harris, LI-ghtcycle thanks guys appreciate the positive feed back ;) Hal hehe the
frame aint finished yet buddy expect some more lightening holes to "emerge" before she's finished
some carbon fiber to "accent" them and lots of anodized alumnium

Another hot day in West OZ and we have 4 days of consecutive 40C to come next week apparently :-| So...i have
come in early after completing the welding of the shock mount bracket and thought what the hell, i'll slide
the forks in pop the wheels on and see how the seat looks for height...

Pivot_Mount_series_pic_3.jpg

couple of custom carbon fiber bobbed fenders front and back and i think the bobber look will be complete

Good news is the height is doable, i should have no issues getting onto the bike, i have my doubts about
the seat being comfortable for me despite two people seating on it and telling me its very comfy! The seat
positioning is perfect arms are outstretched and slightly bent when holding bars (with back straight) Should
be a comfy ride as far as seating position goes, pedaling will likely result in loss of teeth when knees hit chin
buuuut i don't think this will reeeeeally worry me alot :p

Off to a pool parte'/bar-b-q just awaiting my lift... Happy New Year to all ES member's and their families
and loved ones....I'll be back in 2011...

You can make custom cranks 10mm long. Technicly they are pedals, you can pedal and not knee your chin :)

I must say!

Beautiful creation, It is a piece of art, every move you make and every step you take, awesome. Seat choice is wonderful. When I look at this creation, it almost feels like a beautiful painting of an excellent artist. Bravo.

My Best wishes and warm regards to all who made it possible. And of course Mr. Kim, good luck to you.

Respectfully
Naeem

Sorry, just find four of them under the seat.
Lol Hal, thats all the encouragement KiM needs to pull the drill out, sharpen his favourite drill bits and re-emerge 5 hours later with the bike 2kg lighter!
Here's hoping (hint hint hint KiMbo!).

Its looking good mate, seat position looks spot on. I'll pop up to your place this week just to check out that its comfy, you know, quality control and all that....
Ok ok any excuse to come up and checkout the bike porn...

HAHAHA.... I'm positive Hal will be happy when shes finishd, to tie
you both over, heres something i knocked up today for another
friend who is just getting into Canoing, he wanted a rudder fitted
so i volunteered to help out, knocked this up out of some
scrap aluminum this morning before it got too hot-->

Still needs 'finishing' but you get the jist i hope... I had it
all together and then i just couldn't resist adding some
'lightening holes' ....

Thanks for the positive feedback from all it is much appreciated...

More work on the bike tomorrow...Be home all week Paul drop by

Oh how I miss the heat! This cold rain is killing my spirit( and my favorite trails), I don't know how you NWesterners do it.

That's cool AJ, I thought those were adjustment holes so you could tweak the angle of the rudder, or bring it out of the water if you wanted.

The street whip is coming along nicely. I don't know if I missed it or what, but did ThudSir put hall sensors in that motor for you already?

Heat gets old fast when it stays up above 30C for days on end. still better than freezing cold and that white stuff imo ;)
Holes definitely not for adjustment purposes  mate said to keep it 'light' weights an important thing in canoeing i believe...
Didn't miss fitting of halls, i will use the bracket i made previously when i tried to get a sensored setup working, the hall placement
on the bracket was made using a hall mount Burtie sent me as a template so the hall spacing we know i have right LoL...

Shall be watching a few overs of the Cricket this morning then head out to the workshop, should have something to report later to day...

AJ,
I have NOT had very good results with those external hall mounts on the Turnigy 80-100 when trying to use large currents.
That method seems to work well on the smaller outrunners, but it would not work properly above about 3kw for me.
I suspect it is due to interference from the stator flux when running higher power.

Glueing the things in the stator slots (every 4th slot) seems to work a lot better.

I would be pleased for someone to prove me wrong about this, but it is just my experiece so-far :?

BTW, Nice set of functional looking forks on this new cruiser

Gluing the halls in every 4th slot is how i will be going etard Burtie reports the external setup isn't the best
over 3kw

Thanks Burtie i actually would prefer having them inside the motor its a cleaner look IMO... Hows that fan-dangled timing
adjustment thing-a-ma-jig coming along mate?

KiM

Should be getting some made up soon.
-You know you need to try one

Oh i know i do hahaha... just lemme know your paypal addy when they are available and i will gladly
take one off your hands...maybe two ;) Best of luck with the rest of the work Burtie your a freakin
StaR 8) awesome job your doing...

This may well be the case about external hall placement on the bigger motors... the only thing I can add is when I was playing around with my scooter ( using the 6.5kw motor ) this had external halls fitted but I never pushed it above 3.5kw It was behaving perfectly at this power. I think Burtie may well be right thou about interference playing around with the cleanness of the hall signals at higher power levels ( I do think it could be got round though by using a different hall sensor ) . On the big motors I think it makes sense to fit internally now especially now it looks like if we will be getting away to adjust the timing electronically ( Thanks to Burtie ). I opted for the external fitting for 2 reasons 1: timing adjustment ( hopefully will become a thing of the past ) and 2: easy to replace should a sensor fail, well all the abuse I have give my motors/hall sensors I have had not one fail, so I may fit mine inside also on the big motors just to save a bit of space..

Bit of a lazy day today i'm sorry to report, was relaxing in the comfort of the air conditioning watching the cricket & before
i knew it was near midday and i had gotten nadda done ... The rudder of the canoe needed to have some form
of mounting made and this needed to be done before i could get back to work on the bike
as i promised my friend it would be ready for fitting the cables by Saturday, he's a life long
friend and has always helped me out when asked so i don't want to let him down...came up with
this-->

IMG_6742.jpg

I'll glue and screw the rudder too the hull when my friend comes up to fit the cable housing/cable up...So
as a result of this all i got nothing done to the bike :: sigh :: Tomorrow is another day hopefully
get the actuator mounting holes drilled in the frame and the plates welded in to reinforce the holes as per
i did with the ThudSTaR 8) 2 speed mount...

ciao for now people...

EdiT:- I forgot to add, i will be buying the first (4) of the planned
12 22v Zippy packs and hopefully a Hyperion charger off Mr Goodrum This Thursday ;)

Nice work on the kayak rudder.
I bought one a few years back cheap off ebay and while it wasn't particular short like a white water one it was very twitchy out in the open on the bays where I live. I didnt need a rudder to steer but a fin for stability but it needed to fold up for getting through very shallow water. I ended up fibreglassing a large door hinge to the bottom of the kayak with a metal fin bolted to it with a heavy piece of fishing line running through it. I could pull on the line and flip the fin up or down for open or shallow water. Your way looks alot better

Are you going to use your CH 160 in the meantime, or is it still damaged, or are you going w/halls & Lyen from the get-go?

I know you are waiting on parts, & I'm excited to know how the Thudster's awesome 2-speed trans works with your new bike...

So, about how long before you do some test rides? Just need parts to quickly finish, or do you have to do a lot of testing or build-work to get on the road? :?:

I'm burning rubber 'here' waiting for you to release it on the pave...ment streaking tire tracks w/vids to share it. :p

Hope it rockets & hops the hills soon...

ETA's :?: Updates :?:

This will depend on when i get the 12 fet Infineon from Mr Lyen, its ordered and paid for but the components needed to be ordered Lyen doesn't stock the fets i wanted, the Christmas/new years break slowed things down unfortunately. I speak with Lyen on msn most days so i will get a heads up when its ready and updates you all ;)

Actually...aside from the controller and batteries pretty much have everything now (thanks to Timma2500 for throwing some stuff in his Chain Reaction order for me  ) first 8 packs (of planned 12) of Lipo will be ordered this Thursday, meez been savin' ma pennies ;)

I don't think its a good idea to put a prediction on this, i'm always wrong, lets just say we are alot closer than we were a day ago ;)

Update

I have been puting off working on the bike, its assembled and looks all pruuurty
as it is LoL... bit the bullet and pulled it apart yesterday morning so i could weld the
rear brake caliper mounts to the frame. Slight issue of clearance i hadn't planned on but
this was over come with a few spacers...

Disk_brake_mount_series_pic_1.jpg

Some very shocking welding i know, my trusty 170 dollar mig is on its last legs
the wire feed mechanism is broken, have managed to get it working...just

Long hot day in the workshop to do this, doesn't look much but it took 4 hours to get right...
The spacers will be 'trimmed' in length today, the lads rocked up for 'beer oclock'
so i quickly assembled everything for a few pics, end of the day we have a L337
Hope mono mounted on the cruiser's frame WooTz

Want to attach the mount for the stabilizer setup today, that will complete the
work on the frame and the 'prettification' can then start ;) I'm very very keen to get this
thing rolling the silly season is over and its time to get back into it, we are at the
stage there isn't great deal left to do to get her rolling and i'm getting excited all over again hehe
The hot weather hasn't really been bothering me as much either, haven't turned my aircon on in
weeks and we have constantly had over 30C temps :-| i think my new anti spasm
medication may have something to do with it?! either way expect more
updates very soon :)

Back soon folks

KiM

Your clean up is awesome!! must be time consuming to do it!!

a mate fo mine is a stainless welder at cadbury chocolates, he dropped of his old gas/mig for me to play on!!

hopefully I can now weld neater than using the arc welder

Not at all, flap disks are your friend, under 3 minutes from splatter lookin crap to clean
and unseen hehe... Ran the air die grinder over the finished cleanup as the rest of the frame was
done, leaves the surface looking alot like its been sandblasted, great for the paint to stick too.

UniMig welder  that industrial grade stuff right there you lucky bastard!!! very jealous, if you can't run
a smooth bead with that your never going to LoL...
