Ohio race bike.....controllers...I hate them all!

Lookin good! I will have to get a bike racer going here asap. Just a few more house projects need finishing first. Excellent news on the speed of the infineon controllers.

tritonwow- Locking cranks give a cornering advantage.

ENOOB, LOL
I missed that post....I am actually a fan of that stuff. Not that I would test it to that extream. Where you been? E-biking all over the great northwest I assumed.(With all the millions you made hawking them marrs motors, you may have an E-Yacht now!) drop by more often- EH?

YES! John, Lets get the E-bike National going soon. (before I run out of money blowing all my stuff up!)

I started a thread for the 6fet controllers for dummies.
http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18641
I will be updating & adding some stuff to make it clear on what Ive done......right or wrong. :p

I also really like the castle controllers. Mine has held up fine for over a year of use. It appears like they actually effectively heatsink the fets, and so by adding a powered pentium-II heatsink and fan to it, it stays cool almost all the time. Pushing 1.5 kW through up a long 7% hill only got to 30 degrees above ambient.

For 6 kW burst applications, though, I have a feeling it wouldn't last long even with a CPU heatsink.

Thanks Luke,

Question for you & your controller think tank:
How far can I push a 6 fet controller once modded with some decent 4110's & a monster heat sink added to the bank?
Does radio shack sell Kaptan tape? :D

You know my riding style. It is purly a race set up. (no "partial" throttle here, ON the throtle or ON the brakes) I would like to be able to pull 100 amps consitintly from an 18c lipo set up. (idealy I would like 300amps 8) ) but we'll keep it real for now.

Lyen, if your reading this, get ready for another paypal from me...... :D

& for future referance to all you RC wannabe's...Don't bother with a 200amp "monster" turnigy You will only be disapionted & ultimatly frustraighted.
I spun the motor in the video with it on 2 different set ups (it actually turned the motor about 700rpm faster) no problems. After getting the camera out & re-hooking up...nothin'... it is totaly dead. Never got hot, no smoke, never lost sync, just stoped working.

Yes, I am ready for your purchase buddy! Thanks Thud! :D

He's had a bit of an issue with one of his tennants renting and a crack whore that moved in
with the said tenant and did a runner with alot of
stuff that wasn't hers, i think Chad must still be tracking her down.

Finaly got it together enough to pedal around for the first itme last night. initial impresions are good.

Niagra sent the wrong tires so i wont have the race meats untill next tuesday. I slapped on a chopper 3" on the race rim for the photos & a rotten rear that blew out after my shake down ride. Anyone at the race should be able to pick me out on this.

I think its kind of an ugly duck....but I am ready to get it sideways....will be getting the controller finished & motor drives settled this weekend.
Controller mouts to the bottom of the battery box out in the breeze.
If it perfoms as well under power that it does under pedal. It will be a contender.
Hopefully I still have the riding Skillz to make up for any design short comings......Ever see Kenny Roberts on a TZ750 Mile tracker? (sic riding)

I love it! Ugly ones are the fun ones to ride, but you don't always go bragging to your friends about it

HAHAHA!! Nice one John!!

I think the ugliest thing about it is that derailluer, maybe keep that the same, hell ugly it up so no one sees you coming. I think it looks like a contender to me Thud, represent!!!

Those guys had some serious balls to be racing those ol 2 strokes on 80's era tires, at least you will have the advantage of modern tires and we will finally be able to see how they hold up in a race. Love the rear sprocket, I think these will be more prevelant as people find better ways to mount these monsters. I am about to get on the lathe today to make my adapter. Let us know if you need anything for this build, I have an extra Castle controller if you want a spare unit for the race.

Maybe you could put an ES sticker on there somewhere, you should also name it something. Any ideas guys??? How about the "Thud Scud"

Beautiful job on the rear hub! What are the holes in the sprocket near the teeth? Did you use a regular disc mountain bike hub?

Dave

Thanks Guy's.

Thud Scud.....hmnnn, I think you can do better ...
Thanks for the offer for stuff.
Actually I blew my ICE100 a week or so ago (before I had the throtlizer to protect it) If any one has a loner they could send, It would get my tranny fitted bmx to the race also.
Standard racers agreement. Use it...return it, break it-replace it. (I have referances LOL) Guys borrow my race engines all the time if they need them.
pm me if you can help the cause.

D,
That is a choppers usa disc brake hub with my own twin freewheel adaper. The inside (standard dicta 16t) unit has the sprocket adapter to the monster & another threaded section for the pedal chain free wheel. It all fits into the 135mm space.

This is not a true independant set up, like the twin free wheel on a freehub set up. (i am too cheap to buy a new freehub rear hub  )
Although without electrics on it is pedals perfectly, I don't plan on pedaling this paticular bike.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how this runs for you Thud, especially how the monster sprocket pans out, btw i got your direct drive adapter along with Matts kit, beautifully made, thank you,i also pp'ed you a thanks too, hope that arrived.

Cheers Thud,

D

The saying about mopeds and fat girls doesn't apply to ebikes. ie What do fat girls and mopeds have in common?......They're both fun to ride, but you don't want your friends to see you riding one?

"Thud's Scud" rolls off the tongue a little better.

Once we have a team attending, it could be called the GasBusters, or simply the E-Team.

Names for the yellow racer-
My little yellow e-bike
Bumblebee (as in the yellow camaro on Transformers)
Adios Amigo
The Flying Banana
Lemon Punch
E-liminator
E-Lightning
Yellow Thunderbolt
BOP - BlowOut Preventer
Camel Eater
Rules Changer
Ride Me
MMEFOT - Man's Most Efficient Form Of Transportation
The Future or The Future is Here
USA made and fueled
The Last Laugh
Eat My Ozone
E-ped
Lithium on wheels

Thud,
Assuming you kick the shit out of them, and I realize it's probably against your competitive nature, after the racing do a quick recharge and let the competition go for a spin on her. My belief is that e-bikes will have a place even after e-cars are viable. They are the most efficient form of transportation known to man, period. Plus they can be a hell of a lot of fun, despite the granny's ride ebikes coming out of China which is reinforced by the rules in much of the world. We all need to pay it forward in terms of e-bikes, and in a few years we'll look back on these days of ES knowing we were on the ground floor of a real phenomenon that helped change the world for the better.

Thud,

I have the same hub on the way. Are you happy with the hub's bearings and axle shaft? You must be spacing the right side 135-112=23mm from the bearing to the dropout. Don't hop curbs! I plan to drive from the left with the disc rotor bolts, spacing the rotor out an additional 10mm.

What lateral run out do you see on the toothed edge of the lexan sprocket? Is it mostly coming from the freewheel?

Best of luck on the race! I can't wait to see what speed you can manage with the 8085 Turnigy and sensored controller!

I still think a jagged-edged comic-book/60's-batman style word bubble with THUD! in it would be nice and funny for those that get it. :)

Other ESers could go with a theme, of POW, CRASH, CRUNCH, VROOM, etc. :p

Also, in that rear-above-wheel pic showing the sprocket, I'm looking at it like "good grief what a tiny tire, look how small it is compared to the disk brake adapter" and then I realize "wait, that's for a sprocket, but where is it" but then "Oh, there it is...but it's FLOATING" and then I remember it's transparent.

HV160 woot thats the ticket hehee...Thudsters BMX will rip
trenches with one of them puppies hehee...

Thudster, King Kenny did a run on the TZ750 not long ago what an INSANE piece of gear
that was, banned after 3 races hehehe... Letz hope the yellow terror
won't see the same fate.

Bike looks like it will get the job done, if theres an concourse events might want to take
that time to check over the bike though hehee...good effort
in such short time mate, im actually keener to see how the BMX will go
and here the two speed changes as you hit the straights waaaaaaa CLUNK WAAAAAAA
hehee

All the best with the rest of the build mate 8)

What a ride.
the original No fear practitioner.

I have got the meanwell chargers sorted out so fast charging is on the table. Still will be keeping carfull track at cell level. (I have too much money tied up in batteries to pop them).

I have confirmed infineons beyond 11k rpm's. 66v & holy cow...that out of ballance turnigy is frightening screeming like that! Sounds like a TZ750.....

Unfortunatly I have a couple gearing issues I don't have time to address before the race. 43MPH will have to be eonugh. 18 cells pushes it to 57mph with my lowes gearing set (estimates based on 85% of max rpms)

Tires will be here tuesday......& I have a loaner controller coming to put the bmx on the track also. I hope to get O'l yeller rolling under power later tonight.

I think the name should be Sparky!! same as that yellow kz750 in the movie above!! How fitting of a name is that!!! prophetic

mike

SHOW EM HOW ITS DONE THUD!!

John,
It may be as simple as adding or removing some epoxy holding the magnets in place. It would be easy to put it on a ballancer & find the heavy point. Defiantly would take a lot of strain off the bearings. This motor is quite "buzzy" at 48v.
(I really cranked it into the vice for the 66v test)

my smaller motors are dead smooth. I have a couple 80-100's to test when i have more time.
